25.01.2022 Very happy to hit 107 Long Cycle with 24 kg.
24.01.2022 My first article for Breaking Muscle compares differences in kettlebell snatch styles of kettlebell sport world champions! I think most coaches and some nerdy athletes would find it interesting. I hope you like it?
24.01.2022 https://www.instagram.com/p/CGUN2T_j4mx/ I had a great chat with @twincitieskettlebellclub hopefully you guys enjoy. Check out - https://open.spotify.com/episode/3rH4d2NF9damFp8GK7X3Tp

22.01.2022 It was great to have a chat about kettlebell sport with Ste and Eric last week. Hopefully, you find it interesting, the plan is to do another one soon. https://youtu.be/MPB2S45SMoQ
21.01.2022 Hi guys, Kettlebell training is obviously fantastic for small spaces, but if you're stuck at home without any kettlebells or looking for something else to try. I made some home body weight workouts if anyone wants to try these out:... 20.01.2022 Congratulations to Patrick, for his great result in the online Mexico nationals!
20.01.2022 Congratulations to everyone from at team GS Science (not sure if that's a good name?). We were able to take home overall gold in male - Biathlon, Long Cycle, Snatch and OALC.
19.01.2022 At the end of 2018 we were lucky enough to host part of the Russian National Kettlebell team. Something that still stands out to this day is the fact that they ...competed in 40 degree weather, whilst it was -20 in their hometown. Despite this massive difference in temperature two of the males were still able to do over 80 reps long cycle (clean and jerk) with two 32 kg bells in the competition. The competition was covered in a Men's health article which went worldwide. Further, Anton also managed an easy 210 reps of snatch with a 32 the next day after going out on the town. In this picture @antonanasenko is testing James' blood lactate during a workshop the following day.
17.01.2022 Feeling good today, managed a 10-minute jerk set with 36 kg X 2. Normally I will use an 'RPE stop' (70-90% effort) and switch to intervals, but I was able to get through the whole 10 minutes. Interestingly I did an unintentional taper, by removing lots skin from my elbows from last week's half marathon. Just try to make up for it... https://youtu.be/zDTAzFjpayo
17.01.2022 Sometimes I get to measure Lactate during a GS sets (so I should get around to doing a post on this topic). But before I do it's really important to note that Lactate isn't inherently evil! But rather gives an indication of anaerobic metabolism - which has some by-products... #kettlebellsnatch #kettlebellsport #girevoysport #Repost @strong_by_science (@get_repost)... Repost from @theedgeu . The idea that Lactate is the bad guy is one of those big misunderstandings. . . Lactate was originally associated with lactic acid - which isn’t really a thing - during the conversion of lactate there is the production of hydrogen ions (not necessarily one to one with lactate). The co-presence of acidosis and lactate lead to the initial fallacy that lactate acid was a bad guy. It turns out, lactate doesn’t cause fatigue at all. Instead it astutely a metabolic buffer and fuel. Inorganic P and Hydrogen ions are possible culprits for fatigue . . During high intensity exercise, lactate is produced in the in the body. Instead of it being this fatigue causing substance, it’s actually a pretty cool alternative fuel source. Lactate can be metabolized through the lactate shuttle (George R Brooks has some amazing papers on it) and it seems that the carbon backbone can be converted back into glycogen gluconeogensis. The reason why this is important is that it gives us, the readers of science a better understanding of the body and hopefully a better means to interpret papers. Yes, lactate threshold and tests of that nature still exist because it is a marker of metabolic processes (high intensity work). They do provide some insights into the function capacity of the body, but like all tests, are never perfect and don’t paint the entire picture as to what is occurring in side the muscle at a cellular level . #edgeu #bench #workouts #workout #exercise #exercises #training #fitness #fit #nutrition #healthyfood #train #training #lift #lifting #strong #stronger #powerlifting #muscles #benchpress #squat #weightroom
16.01.2022 First go at 10 minute - double half snatch with 24s. Tested out 6 RPM, then increased the tempo - 8RPM, 12RPM and 18RPM. I'm training triathlon (10 minutes) at the moment, it seems to carry over very well to most events and durations... https://youtu.be/0SPzv55WkIM
15.01.2022 I did a little comparison of the double half snatch with two 20 kg kettlebells and the snatch with a 32 kg bell. I've combined both legs in these pictures for simplify, I might do a more complex comparison down the track if you guys like?
15.01.2022 In this blog, we will cover kettlebell snatch tests that help diagnose your weakest link. Armed with this knowledge, you should be able to fine-tune your training. http://www.gsscience.com/snatch-test-diagnosis/
15.01.2022 Cool angle from the comp last week.
14.01.2022 Congratulations to Alessandro, he hit Master of Sport in pentathlon a couple of weeks ago! Looking forward to a big year from this guy.
12.01.2022 |Anaerobic Speed Reserve for Marathons| I managed to perform 28 minutes of 11 RPM and sprinted the last 2 minutes getting 17 and 18 reps. Using the adapted 'anaerobic speed reserve' model in this context - I have 6 repetitions in reserve. Once I can build up a few more repetitions in reserve I will start working on 12 RPM with the goal of hitting 360 reps. https://youtu.be/PoSbeZftx0E
10.01.2022 Jerk Training with 36kg+36kg by James Ross at The Richmond Gym, Melbourne, Victoria. . . . #Repost @gsscience with @make_repost... Good and bad sets! Typically I will do lighter biathlon at the start of the week. I was happy to get into the mid 130s with 24s, however, the last minute sprint was pretty much all no counts (bad set). (I'm glad I videoed it...), Hopefully, I can hit 140 ish in the next few months. . At end of the week I've been doing some 36 kg jerks in my heavier biathlon day, trying to focus a bit more on fixation (good set)... . #kettlebellsnatch #kettlbellsport #kettlebellswing #kettlebellfitness #kettlebellworkout #kettlebells #girevik #girevoysportaus #girevoysports #gsscience #girevik #gsaa #kettlebellcoach #kettlebellathlete #functionalfitness #personaltraining #girevoysportaustralia #kettlebell #kettlebellkings #kettleguard #competition #championship #australia #fitness #kettlebellgym #TeamAustralia #jerk #snatch #melbourne #victoria See more
05.01.2022 HIIT has many health benefits!
02.01.2022 The GSAA recently introduced a ranking table for half snatch this year, so I thought I'd have a go. I was very happy to achieve MS, surprisingly I grunted my way through the set. Normally I tried to stay pretty calm, however since our new housemate turned up six weeks ago sleep hasn't been the greatest and I had to dig deep. https://youtu.be/3S_KmZzr0U8
01.01.2022 I was planning an easy session, but I ended up doing 200 reps long cycle with 24s (half marathon) https://youtu.be/QbDeBKIi6QM
