15.01.2022 We were delighted to join the celebrations last night when Albany toasted to the future of its refurbished Town Hall. City of Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington and Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan led the formalities. Local group Chinjannup, including the Kwongkan Middars dancers, performed an original take on the history of the building. The Great Southern Development Commission supported the refurbishment project with $100,000 through the RED Grants program tow...ards the building's smart systems that provide public wi-fi, security, lighting and energy control, and interpretive features for a heritage and culture trail. It’s an exciting new chapter for Albany’s heritage landmark, which will now host world class art exhibitions, community and creative activities, performances and events. The Town Hall improvements join other projects we have supported in the center of Albany, including Alison Hartman Gardens and the new student accommodation precinct at 121 Serpentine, all of them contributing to strong cultural and community life. 10.01.2022 Mount Barker and Porongurup took their place in the spotlight in the movie Rams, released in October last year. Now a Screenwest-commissioned film tourism location guide is helping to show off the locations and the movie production process. You can see it at https://spark.adobe.com/page/VZfcDgJFu5Md5/. The guide features landmark buildings in Mount Barker, farms and hills around Porongurup, the beach at Gull Rock and destinations further afield, such as Kojonup. It’s a great companion to the H is for Happiness guide released last year, which focused on the south coast. The guides show why filmmakers are choosing the Great Southern for productions such as Breath, Rams, H is for Happiness, Itch and Blueback.
