25.01.2022 Dear player, member and supporter We are delighted to announce that Benita Swatton will continue to head our netball coaching panel for season 2021 taking on the A-Squad (Head) coaching role. After appointing Benita last summer our season did not get off the ground, so we are keen to begin preparations for what will be a big 2021 for Golden Square netball. We are re-structuring our coaching set up and are currently advertising for a Netball Director, along with and ... A-Squad Assistant, B-Squad coach and B Squad Assistant. I would like to thank our 2020 coaches for all their hard work this year as training was fluctuating on again off again during the COVID crisis. It was a difficult task to keep our players motivated and enthusiastic and you all did a remarkable job in the circumstances. We look forward to a restart when and where possible knowing that preseason will most likely be affected by restrictions and protocols for training and playing. We thank Mel Keighran for dedication and commitment to GSFNC, Mel advised the club she wont be coaching in 2021. Mel joined our club in 2012 and has coached 157 games, celebrating 150 games last year with daughter Maddy and has had good success over the years coaching all teams to finals and most recently runners up in 2019 with U17. 23.01.2022 Dear players, members and supporters This morning you most likely have heard the news that the senior BFNL season for 2020 for both netball and football has been cancelled. We held out as long as we could but it was always going to be difficult considering the changes occurring since the latest COVID outbreaks. Two weeks ago it was looking quite promising, as speculation that crowds of up to 500 would be able to attend. What we do know is that the U18 football and U17 netbal...l competition will run in a modified format starting July 25th. We will not know how many teams will compete, this will be announced on or after July 10th. Gisborne will not be participating this season. Additionally crowd protocols have not been finalised, as there are conflicting guidelines for proposed return to play for senior and junior competitions. Information will be forwarded when available. We support playing both netball and football concurrently, hoping that a majority of our games can be played on the vacant QEO. That decision is yet to be made. Our club also supported the BFNL administering our competition. I would like to sincerely thank our coaches from the senior netball and football teams for motivating and supporting the playing group right up to the inevitable decision last night. The senior heads, Benita and Bernie, you have demonstrated leadership, passion and commitment and the committee share your frustration of having our season taken away after such a solid and protracted preparation. We will reload for 2021 and ask all our players, members and sponsors to continue to support our great club and get us back on our feet. We need you all to do your bit play your part and share the load. The U17 girls and U18 boys have been training strongly and our coaches, assistants and team managers have done a fantastic job working within the constraints of COVID restrictions. We look forward to a belated start and wait with anticipation with the scheduling and draw, and crossed fingers a relaxing of crowd protocols as we edge towards September. 22.01.2022 The club is pleased to announce that Christian Carter has been appointed our senior coach for the 2021 season. Christian requires no introduction to the Square faithful, he has almost done it all at the club he started at as a junior, and with well over 20 years’ experience as senior captain, premiership player, reserves coach and, for the last few years, an assistant to the senior team. Christian, recently inducted into the inaugural Golden Square Hall of Fame, wants to cont...inue to develop a professional culture, which has enjoyment front and centre. He is excited to take over from Bernie Haberman and has inherited a healthy developing list along with plenty of junior talent making their way through to the senior ranks. Christian has always had blue and gold running through his veins and can’t wait to nourish and promote our youth and set solid foundations for the future to maintain our status as one of the best clubs in regional Victoria. Ron’s records and achievements certainly speak for themselves and will be lucky if they are ever repeated. Here is a photo from last year’s Hall of Fame with myself, Ron, and my uncle Tony. Our junior netballers and footballers continued to train in the hope of playing a revised competition and unfortunately we were unable to play our first and second round games and the BFNL were left with the difficult but correct decision to abandon the remainder of the season.
