19.01.2022 Our Gary Jackson is doing the Ride for Autism tomorrow. He will be cycling from the GSL Offices. There he will do a bike change and peddle all the way from Wangetti to Cairns via Quaid’s Rock Black Mountain Rd to Kuranda then the downhill cycle paths back to GSL Offices. All in all, a round trip of 100 km all for a worthy course. Let us get behind him and wish him the best of luck. Go to his Ride for Autism page and make it worthwhile the effort. No amount is too big or too... small. Go make us proud Gary You can find Gary’s page here : https://m.facebook.com/story.php Ride for Autism #gogaryj

19.01.2022 When you think GSL, you think Disability Provider. We are much more than that- the support we provide is out of the box- no 2 days the same, and truth be told- We love it! Here is an example of one of the support workers Miguel supporting one of our NDIS participants Rachel to attend a long-awaited dental appointment/ surgery amidst her fears of having the procedure done. The Procedure was a success and they even had time for a photo opportunity Keep up the great work guys.

18.01.2022 GREAT NEWS!!! We've decided to recommence BASE, LEAP, READY and CHILL group services on Monday the 18th of May! Thank you to everyone who participated in on our Zoom online sessions during closure. It has been wonderful to be able to keep in touch! Online sessions will cease as of today, Friday 15th of May.... To minimise potential risk to staff and participants we will continue to run these services with some COVID-19 safety guidelines. 1.Staff will continue to encourage social distancing and personal hygiene practices 2.Outings will be limited to outdoor open air areas no shops, game arcades etc.. 3.Parents and carers drop off and pick up participants to and from the front door only 4.Any participant or staff member who is unwell is asked not to attend the program Within these guidelines will still be continuing all of our usual sessions, working on our individual goals and of course having fun!! Looking forward to seeing all of the faces next week!!! A MASSIVE thanks to Trudy and Linda our HUB guru's for keeping things going during COVID-19. Your energy and commitment was absolutely stand out, thanks guys!

03.01.2022 Here at GSL, we like to break down barriers and eradicate ism's. This is one such story. Joanne worked (work experience) at the Centre Stage Cafe in Cairns Central SC for two years. This comprised one hour a week where Joanne would wipe over all the tables and chairs, refill the sugar/salt/pepper pots for each table, wipe over the counter and serving areas, and straighten up the magazine shelf. Although Joanne did not get paid for this she did receive a drink at the end of e...ach shift. Several months ago Centre Stage closed down. As a result, Joanne registered with Max Employment. All was going well, Joanne attended appointments and looked for work on the internet. Max Employment and Hub staff assisted Joanne to create a resume and practice interview techniques. On Friday 22 May 2020, Joanne attended a job interview, at Boxhead Cafe Mulgrave Road, with Jess and Julie from Max Employment - all went very well and Joanne was asked to complete a work trial on Tuesday 26 May 2020. Julie from Max Employment attended the four-hour work trial with Joanne and reported everything went extremely well. The next day Jess called to tell Joanne she got the job. Joanne was very very happy and couldn't stop smiling. To celebrate the achievement Joanne 'rang the bell' at the Max Employment office. We are eradicating isms one by one. Well done Joanne!!, #kickthatism BoxHead
