23.01.2022 The federal government's $7.3 billion employment services program is set for a major overhaul after an independent panel warned the system was too punitive and must catch-up to the 21st century. The report sets up an election contest over the long-term unemployed, with Labor threatening to tear up billions of dollars worth of contracts and ditch the work-for-the dole scheme if elected. The inquiry found the Jobactive platform had made over 1.2 million job placements since July 2015, but that it was failing to keep up with technology.
