(GSV Members need to login to view)

22.01.2022 We are open The GSV Centre has now moved to level 1, 10 Queen street, Melbourne and we are delighted with our new home. As you can see, we have finished the unpacking, and the library is ready for members to come in again. We are open for members to do their research in the library from Tuesday to Friday, 10am until 4pm.

21.01.2022 GSV Talk: Researching Single People Thursday 8 April at 10.30 am It would be fair to say that the stories of many single people have disappeared from history, often because there are no direct descendants to carry the stories to the next generation, or perhaps because the person in question did not have a public profile of any significance. Often the single aunt or uncle features only as an elderly, slightly eccentric figure or as the pitied sibling who looked after elderly p...arents while married siblings moved away and made lives for themselves. Many family historians have embraced the stories of their unmarried relatives, realising that they, too, have a valuable (and often revealing) place in the family story. In this session Dr Cheryl Griffin will explore the principles and methodology used to identify individuals that do not appear frequently in surviving records. She will make a short introductory presentation and then lead a discussion and problem-solving session on this topic. The talk will be delivered by Zoom. There are places available so GSV Members should log in to register.
