19.01.2022 SPOT ON FISHING & OUTDOORS PORT LINCOLN WEST COAST FISHING REPORT 10 SEPTEMBER 2020 This week’s image is Darren Smith with his Harlequin Fish. Here’s what was b...iting and where. Coffin Bay King George Whiting reports were down for this week from boaties, however Farm beach boaties reported some decent numbers for those willing to look hard enough, along with the odd gummy shark. Gunya and Almonta remains a hot location for salmon, with fish being reported most days being spotted in schools close to the shoreline. Fish size remains reasonable, with an average between 2 and 4 kilograms. Salmon trout were thick throughout the bay, cruising in schools biting most lures or baits thrown at them. Whiting reports from inside the bay were slow. Port Lincoln King George Whiting were a little patchy for boaties, however those who persisted managed a decent feed of fish. Carcase rock and September beach proved reliable locations well worthwhile a visit, whilst Thistle Island reports had slowed during the past week. North Shore boaties reported some decent catches of King George Whiting and squid whilst fishing late afternoon sessions. Big schools of salmon were cruising the waters between Bolingbroke and Moonlight bay, hitting just about and lures casted at them. Yellowfin whiting remain to be caught along North Shields beach most days, with nippers or worms being the best baits. Salmon trout were thick throughout Boston bay, proving some great fun for boaties trolling lures, or land-based anglers casting metal slugs or soft plastics. Tumby Bay King George Whiting fished well around Spilsby Island in the shallower drops. Flathead were caught by persistent land based anglers casting soft plastics along Ski beach, with an average size between 30 and 40 cm. Cowell The Cowell jetty had some great reports, with squid and King George Whiting both being caught in good numbers and generally of decent size. Blue swimmer crabs were also reported being caught from the jetty and spotted by multiple boaties in the area. Yellowfin whiting bit well from most beaches during periods of calmer weather. 16.01.2022 SPOT ON FISHING AND OUTDOORS PORT LINCOLN WEST COAST FISHING REPORT 27 AUGUST 2020 This week’s image is of Stephen Johnson with a couple of nice Nannygai’s. He...re’s what was biting and where. Far West Coast Point Drummond had snook off the rocks and salmon from the beaches both hitting lures. Streaky and Venus Bay were quiet for Whiting but Salmon and a few Flathead were caught. Coffin Bay King George Whiting are quiet from the Ledge but there’s heaps of salmon trout around. Farm Beach grounds and Seven Mile Beach areas are more consistent for whiting in the 30 to 40cm size range. Some very big red Mullet and a few Trevally were caught from Farm Beach to Sir Isaac’s. Gunyah and Almonta Beaches are still firing for Salmon averaging 3 to 4kg and 80cm long. They’re hitting lures, pilchards and surf popper rigs. Port Lincoln The jetties, breakwaters and rock ledges from Port Lincoln to Tumby Bay have good numbers of small to medium squid and the odd schools of Salmon moving through. Bigger squid and the odd whiting came from boaties fishing the Sandhill’s and Louth Bay. Yellowfin Whiting are still schooling up around North Shield’s but are out of casting range from the beach at times. Best King George Whiting reports came from Thistle Island, Bolingbroke and the Sir Joseph Banks Group. Cowell Yellowfin whiting are still on the chew in Franklin Harbour and squid are in good numbers outside the bay. Spot On Fishing & Outdoors, 39 Tasman Terrace, Port Lincoln Phone 08 8683 0021

14.01.2022 SPOT ON FISHING & OUTDOORS PORT LINCOLN WEST COAST FISHING REPORT 20 OCTOBER 2020 This week’s image is Isaac Fraser with his first legal Mulloway. A 22lb specim...en and 100cm long, great effort Isaac! Here’s what was biting and where. West Coast It looks like the Mulloway season is underway. A few fish up to about 1 metre have been landed around the Dog Fence. It sounds like there may be a bit of a crowd up there with Yalata closed, so be prepared to travel a bit to find a spot. Most surf beaches are holding schools of salmon to 3kg, Talia and Locks Well are two well worth a look. Streaky Bay is starting to fish better for King George Whiting, but legal sized fish are still not around in large numbers. Venus is very similar. Elliston jetty produced some big Garfish and plenty of Squid during the week. Coffin Bay King George Whiting are on the improve. There are still mostly undersized fish around town and along the ledge, but the bigger fish are starting to turn up. Other options inside the bay at the moment are Salmon trout, garfish and gummy sharks. Some of the bigger garfish have been caught in Dutton Bay on gents. Another area that big garfish have been reported is at Coles Point. There were also a few Sweep and Zebrafish caught. Schools of Salmon have been reported around Sir Isaacs and on Almonta/Gunyah Beach. Farm Beach continues to produce good numbers of King George Whiting, Squid and Gummy Sharks. Offshore has seen some solid Nannygai, Kingfish and Samson Fish caught on jigs and baits. Port Lincoln King George Whiting are starting to spread throughout the bays. We have had a few reports from Spalding Cove, Proper Bay and Boston Bay. There are still plenty of small fish, but there are some good ones if you keep moving around. Squid seem to be coming from everywhere. Popular spots have been the town jetty and wharf, North Shields and Louth Jetties and almost anywhere in a boat. The squid are small to medium size, so good quality jigs in size 2.5 and 3.0 are proving effective. Kingfish have been seen around the bays in numbers. Most of them are in the 50-70cm range, so need to be measured. Large soft plastics or a whole squid have proved effective when they appear. Areas to look for them are the town jetty, wharf, Stenross and Boston Island. Garfish, Snook, Salmon and Tommies are also around if you are looking for something else. The town jetty has proved to be a good area this week, especially for some big Tommies. Louth Bay has produced some nice King George Whiting, Garfish and big squid this week, as well as a few reports of Blue Swimmer Crabs being sighted. Salmon schools have been spotted along Wisemans beach and off Millers Hole. Metal lures were successful when the schools were located within casting distance. Tumby Bay The Group has proven the area for some big King George Whiting, Squid, Snook, Garfish and Salmon. It is really fishing well for those who are willing to look around and use a few different techniques. Tumby Bay has seen a few kingfish caught from the town jetty. There are also Squid, Snook and a few King George Whiting in the bay. Port Neill/Arno Bay We have had good reports of King George Whiting from the Arno Bay area. There should also be plenty of Squid, Salmon and Garfish if you want to look around. Cowell No reports this week, but the Blue Swimmer Crabs should be out and about by now, as well as a few King George Whiting, Garfish and Snook. 11.01.2022 SPOT ON FISHING & OUTDOORS PORT LINCOLN WEST COAST FISHING REPORT 12 NOVEMBER 2020 This week’s photo is John Franson with a Harlequin Fish caught recently with... GT Fishing Charters (Photo courtesy of GT Fishing Charters) Here’s what was biting and where. West Coast Plenty of anglers are heading up to the far west chasing Mulloway over the next couple of weeks. There have only been a few mid-size fish caught, but as it warms up, so should the fishing. Venus and Streaky bays have been fishing well for King George Whiting, Tommies and squid. Elliston and Locks Well have been holding Salmon to 3Kg Torpedo lures in pilchard or gold have been performing well. Coffin Bay King George Whiting, squid, Tommies, Snook and Salmon trout have been caught around town. The Ledge has been a bit quiet with mostly undersized King George Whiting. Garfish are appearing in the shallow, weedy areas. Kingfish have been caught in the bays on whole live squid. Farm Beach is still the location to be for good numbers of King George Whiting, Tommies, Squid and Garfish. Late afternoon has been the best time. Offshore has seen the usual species caught whilst drifting over reefs. Small Tuna have been spotted way offshore, but were very flighty. Port Lincoln King George Whiting have been caught in most areas. The best spots have been Spalding Cove, Taylors and the North Shore. Squid are still in very good numbers. Best spots are the town jetty and wharf, Billy Lights, the marina and along the North Shore. Bright coloured and glow jigs with warm cloth are proving very effective. Rat Kingfish are still around town, small soft plastics and whole squid have accounted for a few fish. Blue Swimmer crabs are still very quiet. The water needs to warm up another couple of degrees before they get really active. Garfish have been caught around Stenross, Billy Lights and Louth bay. Silver Trevally have been caught around the Wharf, Marina and Donnington Island. Sleaford to Wanna has been producing Salmon to 3Kg on metal lures and Salted pilchards. Memory Cove has seen some good size squid caught from the rocks. Tumby Bay King George Whiting and squid have been very good out at the Group. Squid and cockle baits with a bit of berley has seen plenty of fish caught in the mid 40cm range. The Marina has Tommies, Trevally and a few Salmon Trout. Port Neill/Arno Bay Boaties have been landing good numbers of King George Whiting, squid and Salmon Trout. Squid have been plentiful and large in most areas. Black jigs have been the standout again. Cowell Yellowfin Whiting are back in numbers, but not so much in size. Plenty of fish are taking surface lures, but most have been undersized. Blue Swimmer Crabs have been caught from the jetty. 06.01.2022 SPOT ON FISHING & OUTDOORS PORT LINCOLN WEST COAST FISHING REPORT 1 OCTOBER 2020 There has been plenty of wind and rain around to stir things up this week. Wit...h School Holidays on, there are plenty of anglers getting out for a fish. This week’s image is young Harry with a lovely squid caught during the week. Here’s what was biting and where. West Coast Salmon have been caught on most beaches. Lures or brined pilchards are the best options. King George Whiting were caught in small numbers in Smokey Bay. Venus and Streaky Bays seemed to be fishing better at the moment. Elliston jetty has seen a few King George Whiting, Tommies and Squid caught late in the afternoon. Coffin Bay King George Whiting have been easy to find this week. Legal sized ones have been tough though. Please handle these undersized fish as little as possible and return to the water as quickly as possible to allow them to grow. The bay is still producing plenty of Salmon Trout, a few flathead and garfish. Farm Beach is still the go for some good size King George Whiting. There are also some nice squid and a few Gummy Sharks being landed. For the few that managed to get offshore, there are some good size Nannygai, Blue Morwong and bigger King George Whiting around the reefs. Almonta and Gunyah are both producing plenty of big Salmon. Gunyah is probably the best option if you have a 4WD. Port Lincoln Sleaford to Wanna is holding schools of salmon between 2 and 5KG. Metal lures like the 40 & 60 gram Ignition in Pink or Blue are producing plenty of fish when cast into the schools. The Town Jetty and Wharf have been producing King George Whiting to 35cm, Squid, Tommies and Salmon Trout on prawns and squid. The North Shore is producing Yellowfin Whiting on clickers, worms and prawns. There are also squid and King George Whiting in the shallows for boaties to chase. The best areas to chase King George Whiting are between September and Taylors. Boaties have been doing well later in the afternoon with squid and prawn baits. Tumby Bay King George Whiting have been caught up at the Group on squid and cockles. There are also a few Trevally and plenty of big Squid out there. The Tumby Jetty has produced Squid, Tommies and a few Garfish around the high tide. Inside the Marina there have been plenty of small salmon trout and silver trevally caught on diving lures and soft plastics. Port Neill/Arno Bay Try the jetty for squid, tommies and a few King George Whiting. Boaties have been catching a few King George Whiting in close to both towns. The fish are still holding on the winter bottom and are taking squid and cockles. Cowell No reports this week. Spot On Fishing & Outdoors, 39 Tasman Terrace, Port Lincoln SA Phone 08 8683 0021
