25.01.2022 Hi honey. How was work today? When front line responders go to work each day they just never know whats around the corner. In Los Angeles yesterday what waited around the corner was an explosion and fire. Eleven firefighters caught fire and were badly burnt, all of them now in hospital, 3 critical, 2 on ventilators. 19.01.2022 Firefighters as first responders are often like this guy, simply staying alive while trying to protect the community from fire (prevention and response). In much the same way, those in the medical field at the moment are simply trying to stay alive while protecting the community. Huge gratitude for their courage, community spirit and the stress they are going through. Cheers. GT.

12.01.2022 FEAR! I was interviewed by Fiona Spence (Rapid Results Mindset Coach) this week. The subject was fear, and how firefighters face and fight what could be the overwhelming impacts of letting the 4 main fear factors get out of control. Facing those fears is one thing, overcoming them another. Fiona has some great techniques and tools to use. https://fionaspence.podbean.com//How_Firefighters_Fight_Fe
10.01.2022 Death and destruction - Bushfires & Royal Commissions Part 1 of 2 Year after year, year in year out - death and destruction and more of the same to come except worse every year. If we continue to do what we have always done, we will always get what we have always got. And what we've always got is more death and destruction....Continue reading
09.01.2022 In this critical period of Covid 19 there are two critical aspects of staying safe in our buildings that we all need to be aware of, in particular in aged care buildings and in other medical facilities. First, the issue of compliance with current fire safety regulations to ensure occupant safety. All building fire and evacuation plans need to be reviewed to ensure they are dynamic and flexible enough in their structure and in their implementation to take account of the cur...rent health risk situation . That is, the people who operate as part of the emergency team in the building in the event of an emergency, may be changing rapidly or even daily as illness and lay-offs occur, or now, where in some work environments a reversal of work isolation is kicking in and a staged return to work is occurring altering again the staffing of the emergency teams in the buildings. The emergency plans, including staffing issues therefore needs to reviewed regularly to (a) comply with current legislation and (b) remain effective. For aged care and other medical facilities it is now more important than ever that the matter of staff wearing PPE or Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. protective clothing, masks, goggles, gloves, gowns and visors etc),is also taken into consideration when, for example, regarding implementation of evacuation procedures. Second, we are now beginning to implement, in an ad hoc staged but uneven fashion, the lifting of working environment restrictions within states, between states and between countries. All governments are hoping, trying, to return to some form of 'normality' (Dr Irena Yashin-Shaw Founder of the Global Intrapreneurs Institute, postulates however that there will be no, 'return to normal', only ever now, 'the NEXT NORMAL'). Therefore, as there now seems to 4 to 5 generally agreed likely Covid 19 scenarios that may become our 'next normal', it is incumbent on all building owners, occupiers and regulators to 'factor in' what will be required for fire and evacuation purposes in relation to each of these scenarios to ensure no loss of effectiveness, and no loss of life occurs. Locatrix is a great place to do, to review or renew your fire and evacuation planning, now and into our 'next normal' future. Cheers. GT
09.01.2022 This week finished a big week for Fire & Emergency Services..including front line medicos. First, potential parole for Robert Long, convicted arsonist & mass murderer (15 backpackers/Childers/2000). Lets hope if they do grant it he is absolutely cured, if not..... Second, St Florian’s day on the 4th of May-firefighters patron Saint who like firefighters, faced a lot of fear and was set on fire, he was also scourged, flayed, then set on fire and thrown into a river with a mi...lestone around his neck. Third, I recently finalised a podcast (Mindsetmatters- available soon) on the 4 x fears we all face, physical, failure, loss of control & abandonment, and how they relate to all of us. Fourth, Friday was Emergency Services Memorial Day a poignant and pertinent day given recent disastrous Australian Bushfires including the deaths of firefighters. The ABC also presented on 'Australian Story' (ABC) the life/career of Shane Fitzsimmons (Commissioner of NSWRFS), great viewing including facing his own fears. Four Corners (ABC) also presented on the fears confronting front line medical services during Covid 19 and how each day it was like they were potentially going into a toxic cloud of gas (see video below). Finally, today, myself and fellow firefighters will farewell one of our colleagues via his 'online' funeral service. https://lnkd.in/gbX4s2D Cheers. GT
