24.01.2022 If you are travelling through East Gippsland you need to be aware that there are major fires burning in the region and you need a bushfire plan. The Great Alpin...e Road from Bruthen to Ensay remains closed. The Golden Age Hotel Omeo says there are still many people travelling to the region unprepared and uninformed. "Its become VERY apparent that people are unaware of the fire danger and road closures in East Gippsland. We have had numerous people call into the Pub, who think they can get to Lakes Entrance or go through the bush to Delegate on motorbikes etc, we have had phone calls for accommodation from people in Gippsland thinking they are coming up via the Great Alpine Road." - Golden Age Hotel Omeo : Nathan Aston, Bruthen

22.01.2022 Where your Bushfire Donations and Drought Dollars are best spent. This Australia Day weekends hay runs were to 4 different fire areas in 2 states over 100 tru...ck loads responding to actual requests for assistance. So where were needed, when were needed. This month we will deliver our 500th. truck load of fodder just for the recent fires. Glen Innes, Guyra,Tenterfield, Mid North Coast fires NSW, East Gippsland, Snowy Mountains, Bega Valley/ Cobargo fires. Around 17,500 bales of hay with a value of approximately $4.5 million. Thats on top of just over 1000 truck loads delivered for the drought in last 2 years in All Eastern States incl. Tassie. Total Value at least $10.5 million. In response to over 6,700 Requests for Assistance, from farmers in every state and territory. A data base of around 200 reasonably regular volunteers, and many others who would like to be. All managed by a Committee of 10, All Volunteers, No Wages. Need for Feed doesnt own any vehicles or any property and operate on a shoestring budget with minimal overheads. Its now time to raise much needed funds to keep our work going. You can donate at http://www.needforfeed.org/donate.html And you could support the fundraiser being put on for us by some very generous supporters. https://facebook.com/events/s/need-for-feed-bushfire-benefit/208763670149205/?ti=icl

20.01.2022 Everyone in East Gippsland must be aware of the fire danger forecast for tomorrow and act today. Full info here: https://go.vic.gov.au/JYsnt6 Visitors to East ...Gippsland: If you are visiting East Gippsland you must leave today - Sunday 29 December and stay away on Monday 30 December. You are in danger if you are in the area as follows - in the high country from Omeo to Bonang all the way south through to the coast between east of Bairnsdale to Cann River. If you dont leave today, road closures are likely to mean you are unable to get home. No one should be in remote forest areas in East Gippsland today and Monday. This includes anyone who is camping, driving, biking or walking in parks or forests. It is not possible to provide support and aid to all the visitors currently in the East Gippsland region. East Gippsland residents: If you live in East Gippsland now is the time to enact your fire plan. Where possible, move animals and livestock to safer locations. You need to move to a safer place, outside of East Gippsland, today as the risk of the fires becoming uncontrollable starts early Monday morning. Stay with friends or family outside the area. Stay very aware of messaging - and if you choose to leave do not delay Do not rely on firefighting crews being able to protect you and your property If you leave -register with Register.Find.Reunite online: register.redcross.org.au East Gippsland fires. People who are in far East Gippsland, including Cann River and Mallacoota, should consider what they will do if the Princes Highway is shut and they are isolated until the road can be reopened.

Given that people shouldnt be leaving the house except for food runs, medical appointments and exercise, do you think it was a good idea?

12.01.2022 CALLING ALL POTENTIAL VOLUNTEERS IN LEONGATHA. There are a lot of words that get used to describe firefighters. Hero may be one of them but if you ask any membe...r of our brigade, that is the last word wed use to describe ourselves. The descriptions wed use are words like Concreter, Truck Driver, Builder, Physiotherapist, Electrician and Chief. Because thats what we are. We are regular members of your community who put some time aside to make sure you are safe. Now, its your turn. Following the devastation of the fires that have impacted so many of the towns in East Gippsland, our brigade has been dealing day and night with crews sent to East Gippsland whilst maintaining crews for our local turnouts, and organizing a food run for those in need. Many of our crews have been away multiple times on strike teams, and while this is what the Australian culture is all about, we, as a brigade, are now reaching out for help. We need members who want to participate in the brigade, whether it be in operational or non-operational roles. We will be hosting an open night at our station, on Monday the 3rd of February at 7pm for anyone interested in finding out a bit more about what we do. Please come along and find out if assisting your community in this way is right for you.
