24.01.2022 BHP Billiton - Eastern Ridge11kV Global Testing Services were engaged to refurbish the switchboard after water ingress caused a flashover resulting in major damage to the HV Bushings and throughout the switchboard Major Refurbishment of 11kV Portable Switchboard The scope of work included:... Removal of all damaged components and thorough cleaning of switchboard, replace all burnt wiring and replace all damaged components with new. GTS Carried out wiring modifications as required, completed a full service of all mechanical components. Full suite of electrical testing including PD Testing. PlusfFull functionality testing and commissioning, including HV tests and relay secondary injection. GTS had to work closely with suppliers to source parts and look at other alternatives due to age of the switchboard, as certain components were obsolete, and no longer available. 12.01.2022 GTS Malaysia has successfully completed another milestone project in the South East Asia Region GTS Malaysia was requested to carry out a complete HV Cable diagnostic test consisting of Sheath tests, IR tests, Tan delta Tests and Partial Discharge tests on ageing 11kV XLPE cables at one of the oil refinery plants in Thailand. GTS tested close to 40 x 11kV XLPE cables which have been in service for more than 25years. This is a part of a diagnostic test which gives the overall ...conditions and reliability of these cables in service. These test results will also be used as baseline results for future trending. This is very important as the cable insulation may generally start to deteriorate after 25-30 years in operation. GTS uses the latest technology and different types of test method available in the market for accurate and reliable assessment. GTS has carried out Tan Delta testing using BAUR and HVA Diagnostic Test equipment. The tan delta test on a power cable is using VLF 0.1Hz method. Meanwhile for Partial Discharge testing, GTS have used two different techniques as shown in the photo. GTS uses OWTS (Oscillating Wave Test System) or DAC (Damping AC) Method using SebaKMT equipment, as well as by VLF method using BAUR VIOLA. 10.01.2022 Transpower New Zealand project Global Testing Services were engaged to test and commission the new Siemens HVDC equipment to Transpower specifications. GTS CASE STUDY... This project replaced the existing Pole 1 with the new Pole 3 at Benmore Substation, comprising of stateoftheart thyristor valve converter equipment. It increased capacity of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) interisland link that connects Haywards substation in the North Island and Benmore substation in the South Island. Construction consisted of the installation of equipment within the 220 kV switchyards and a new HVDC Convertor Station. This involved 220kV bus extension by string bus over the tail race between two switchyards, 3 new 80MVAr filter banks, four single phase 271MVA converter transformers, installation of 17 tonnes thyristor stacks suspended from the ceiling of the 19m high valve hall, HVDC switchyard including 34 tonne smoothing reactor, new control systems (inc. 102 new control and protection panels), 11 kV switchgear, AC and DC auxiliary supply for Pole 3 and complete replacement of 110V DC battery banks at Pole 2. Cable installation and termination was a large part of the work with over 129,000 metres of cable run. Earthing of all new equipment and buildings also took place. GTS working under contract to Electrix were among 60 contractors on site working in extreme ranges of temperature from 10 degrees Celsius in winter up to 40 degrees Celsius in the height of summer. This involved coming up with unique ideas to enable works to be carried out including heating cables and weather shelters. 05.01.2022 Transpower New Zealand project Global Testing Services were engaged to test and commission the new Siemens HVDC equipment to Transpower specifications. GTS CASE STUDY... This project replaced the existing Pole 1 with the new Pole 3 at Benmore Substation, comprising of stateoftheart thyristor valve converter equipment. It increased capacity of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) interisland link that connects Haywards substation in the North Island and Benmore substation in the South Island. Construction consisted of the installation of equipment within the 220 kV switchyards and a new HVDC Convertor Station. This involved 220kV bus extension by string bus over the tail race between two switchyards, 3 new 80MVAr filter banks, four single phase 271MVA converter transformers, installation of 17 tonnes thyristor stacks suspended from the ceiling of the 19m high valve hall, HVDC switchyard including 34 tonne smoothing reactor, new control systems (inc. 102 new control and protection panels), 11 kV switchgear, AC and DC auxiliary supply for Pole 3 and complete replacement of 110V DC battery banks at Pole 2. Cable installation and termination was a large part of the work with over 129,000 metres of cable run. Earthing of all new equipment and buildings also took place. GTS working under contract to Electrix were among 60 contractors on site working in extreme ranges of temperature from 10 degrees Celsius in winter up to 40 degrees Celsius in the height of summer. This involved coming up with unique ideas to enable works to be carried out including heating cables and weather shelters. Meeting commissioning schedules required many tests to be carried out in these conditions.
