24.01.2022 UPDATE: Coaches will continue to replace V/Line Swan Hill trains for all or part of the journey for the rest of the day, following a collision in Woodvale, north of Bendigo. Trains will operate as normal between Bendigo/Eaglehawk/Epsom and Southern Cross stations, and between Southern Cross and Echuca. The first service on Thursday, the 6.56am Swan Hill to Southern Cross, will be replaced by coaches between Swan Hill and Bendigo, connecting with a train from Bendigo to Melbou...rne, while trains get back into normal position. Services will resume and the road will re-open when investigations are complete. EARLIER: Coaches will replace V/Line services on the Swan Hill line, following a collision at a level crossing north of Bendigo. Emergency services are attending, and V/Line crews are preparing to help passengers transfer to coaches. Services currently affected include the 12.54pm train from Swan Hill to Southern Cross Station and the 11.33am train from Bendigo to Southern Cross Station. Airstrip Road, Woodvale is closed at the train line. Motorists can use the nearby crossings at Fitzpatricks Road or Rileys Road instead. We ask passengers to check station platform displays and listen for announcements, and to allow up to 60 minutes extra for their journey, a spokesperson said. This incident is under Victoria Police control. Services will resume and the road will re-open when investigations are complete. There were no injuries to the 33 passengers or staff on board the service.
24.01.2022 A border checkpoint has been established in Swan Hill as coronavirus cases continue to rise in New South Wales. Department of Health and Human Services said you don't need a permit if you live on one of the local government areas identified as exempt from carrying a permit. You must carry photo identification that shows your address such as a driver licence as evidence of you residing in an exempt local government area. If you are under the age of 18, you do not need to pro...duce identification that shows your address. If you live in a local government area that is exempt but you have visited, been in, or travelled through Northern Beaches or you are required to isolate or quarantine in New South Wales and you are prohibited from entering Victoria. You must follow the advice of New South Wales Health. If you are already in Victoria, you must immediately isolate for 14 days. If you live in one of the local government areas exempt from the permit system (border communities) and have entered or travelled in or through a Red Zone since December 11 or in the last 14 days (whichever is later), you cannot enter Victoria. The local government areas that are exempt from needing a permit are: Alpine Valleys, Benalla, Bendigo, Buloke, Campaspe, East Gippsland, Gannawarra, Indigo, Loddon, Mildura, Moira, Shepparton, Swan Hill, Towong, Wangaratta, Wodonga and Yarriambiack. In NSW: Albury City, Balranald, Bega Valley, Berrigan, Broken Hill, Edward River, Federation, Greater Hume, Hay, Lockhart, Murray River, Murrumbidgee, Snowy Monaro, Snowy Valleys, Wagga Wagga and Wentworth Red Zone and Hot Zone: Greater Sydney and the Central Coast have been designated as a Red Zone. The Northern Beaches is designated as a Hot Zone. Only people who have visited, been in, or travelled through the Green Zone can apply for a Victorian Border Crossing Permit. Anyone trying to enter Victoria in breach of this order will be subjected to 14-day mandatory hotel quarantine.

18.01.2022 UPDATE: The Swan Hill outdoor pool is closed until further notice after coping severe flooding and storm damage. Swan Hill Rural City Council said the full impact wouldn’t be clear until tomorrow morning. EARLIER: The Swan Hill SES unit says to expect some delays with requests for help.... "We will get around to them as soon as possible," the unit said. "The team are working hard to cover all in progress call outs." The SES has urged motorists to avoid driving in floodwaters. EARLIER: The Swan Hill aerodrome has recorded 11.6mm since 4.30pm. Obviously that is less than some are reporting. How much has fallen where you are? EARLIER: The Swan Hill SES unit has urged residents to remain patient after they were inundated with requests for help. Six millimetres of rain within a 14-minute period has lashed Swan Hill. The Bureau of Meteorology recorded 7.8mm at 5pm. The heavy rain band hit the region at 4.30pm, flooding roads and buildings, including The Guardian. 18.01.2022 Three Malaysian National women have been critically injured after their SUV crashed near Balranald on Thursday. Emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway, 15km east of Balranald, about 3.50pm on December 24, after a westbound Toyota Prado left the road and rolled multiple times. The driver, her 47-year-old front-seat passenger, and a 25-year-old woman in the back seat sustained critical injuries.... Passers-by including an off-duty doctor rendered assistance until emergency services arrived. The driver was flown by helicopter to The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne with severe head injuries; she is described as being in a critical and unstable condition. The two adult passengers were flown by separate fixed aircraft to Royal Melbourne Hospital. Police have been told the older woman has severe head injuries, while the younger woman is described as being in a critical condition. A two-year-old girl, who was travelling in a child restraint in the back seat, escaped with scratches and is being cared for at Balranald hospital. A TFB has also been declared today for Southern Riverina, which encompasses Murray River Council. Today’s conditions in the Mallee, Wimmera and Northern Country will be hot and dry, with temperatures reaching as high as 45 degrees in Mildura and only a few degrees cooler across the rest of the north.... Fresh to strong and gusty winds have been forecast, and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Particularly gusty winds are expected in the north-west. The combination of heat, strong winds and chance of thunderstorms will significantly increase the fire risk, resulting in a Fire Danger Rating of Extreme for the Mallee region.

01.01.2022 Victoria will close its borders to the whole state of NSW from 11.59pm on Friday, in response to NSW's spreading COVID-19 outbreak. It’s unclear what arrangements will be put in place for border communities. More to come.
