Will this technique of 'firehose economics' pay off?

17.01.2022 Despite news of the covid vaccine having a generally positive effect on the economy, the RBA believes it will still be a while before Australia's GDP recovers, and has chosen to maintain the cash rate of 0.1% this month. Fiscal policy support is expected to continue, and the RBA is prepared to do more if necessary.

The banks actions have caused a huge deal of stress on the affected customers, and some are calling for the BCCC to be able to issue financial penalties.

17.01.2022 Following the banking royal commission, the banks feared that responsible lending laws would be tightened to protect customers... however after the government's recent decision to scrap these laws, the responsibility has been shifted to the borrower. Do you think this is fair?

16.01.2022 After research showed that almost 70% of young Aussies have trouble managing their finances, CBA has launched a tool to help with budgeting. The bank is hoping that creating daily habits at a young age will lead to more financially responsible adults in the future.

14.01.2022 A new super reform labelled 'Your Future, Your Super' has been proposed in the recent Federal Budget, but it has many worried. The goal of this reform isn't the issue here, but the means by which the government aims to reach this goal could see Aussies placed into a dud fund for life... How do you feel about this proposal?

14.01.2022 US pharmaceutical company Pfizer has made a huge announcement after tests showed its coronavirus vaccine is more than 90% effective. The news has caused stock markets to surge worldwide, and provided a much needed boost to industries that were hit hard during the pandemic - such as the travel, retail, and hospitality sectors.

14.01.2022 For 6 months around one in ten mortgage holders had there repayments put on hold while they dealt with the struggles of the pandemic... however this holiday has now come to an end for most, so what now? If you had your loan repayments put on hold but are still struggling financially, get in touch with your bank as soon as possible.

14.01.2022 The government recently released its new JobMaker scheme, hoping it will help generate jobs across the country. However, concerns were raised about the adequacy of this program, as businesses have been posting job ads targeting JobMaker eligible workers, and excluding those not eligible. What are your thoughts on this?

12.01.2022 For over 12 years up until September 2015, ANZ breached its own terms and conditions hundreds of thousands of times by charging customers fees it was not allowed to - even after being advised by its lawyers not to do so. The bank has now been hit with a massive fine... but if this went on for 12 years, then how much other misconduct could be going on unnoticed?

12.01.2022 Hoping to provide a boost to the economy, the government has decided to scrap responsible lending laws under the assumption that the banks will do the right thing. However, given the current economic state, and that these rules were put in place to prevent a financial crisis, do you think this is the smartest move?

10.01.2022 Many Australians believe they have no control over their super, or don't see the importance of ensuring their retirement savings are invested appropriately. However, when you consider the fact that something as simple as being with the wrong fund could cost you $200,000 over your working life, then managing your super seems like a no-brainer. If you think your super could do with a looking over, then give us a call.

10.01.2022 The government has proposed some major reforms to Australia's casual workforce, which will affect more than 2.6 million people. However, the Australian Council of Trade Unions has stated that the reforms could do the opposite of what they hope to achieve, and actually take away rights from the country's hardest hit workers...

08.01.2022 Superannuation is set to rise 0.5% (to 10%) this year, and continue until it reaches 12%. While many argue that this increase will very likely cost workers future wage increases, others say that wage growth is expected to stay stagnant regardless...

07.01.2022 Many people are too busy focusing on bank interest rates that they don't stop to consider something so obvious: fees. Things like annual fees and account keeping fees can quickly add up and eat away at your bank balance, but some of these can easily be avoided.

05.01.2022 The ratio of unemployed Australians to job vacancies has improved slightly in recent months, but is still around 50% higher than what we had before the pandemic. 04.01.2022 Business data collected by NAB has shown that businesses are becoming less reliant on JobKeeper subsidy payments, which is a great sign for the economy. However, spending in the hospitality and accommodation sectors are still lagging due to border closures, so there is still progress to be made.

03.01.2022 Right now is the "perfect storm" for mortgage growth, with interests rates as low as they are, the announcement of responsible lending laws being axed next year, and the introduction of open banking on top of all that. The banks are trying to reduce the time they take to approve loans in an attempt to keep up with demand - but the worry is whether all these factors will do more harm than good...
