16.01.2022 2mm of rain in 4 months - guayule looking a bit worst for wear - will recover with first rain - it is highly suited to our changing environment. Farmers should consider crops such as guayule as part of the solution to climate change.

07.01.2022 HISTORY - In 1910, 10% of world's natural rubber supply came from wild harvested guayule. During WW11, when rubber from South-East Asia was unavailable to the allies, USA manufactured aircraft tyres from guayule. South Australia commenced R & D into guayule at the same time for strategic purposes. After the oil crisis in the 1970's. USA and Australia again began to trial guayule for strategic purposes - in Australia these trials conducted by L.W. Owens in South Australia a...nd Dr. Millthorpe in NSW. Trials were extended into Queensland at Kingaroy and Gatton. Trials conducted hereunder in the 2000's has extended the identification of regions across Australia for guayule commercialisation. This allows for fast-tracking commercial growing of guayule in vast areas of Australia already familiar with the crop. NR from hevea will continue but this plant cannot keep up with demand without catastrophic impacts on the rain forests. Guayule can meet those increased demands. Bridgestone is already growing guayule in the USA and manufacturing tyres in Japan. Airlines throughout the world are trialling biofuels as an eventual replacement for fossil fuels. Guayule is a potential crop to meet the aviation industry needs. See more
