23.01.2022 My Soil Health Study with Adelaide City Council is going to be published through the Australian Arbor Age magazine through the first half of 2019. I'm chuffed about this because I was given a free subscription as part of my scholarship with Launceston City council in Tasmania back when I started in Arboriculture, this was over 20 years ago and Arbor Age had just started. Don't know who gets that mag these days? but if you are getting a free mag, I hope you are enjoying it. Soil Health is not an issue that will go away, it's a big issue here to stay and stay tuned, great things are coming to this space.

23.01.2022 We’re back in the garden here at GUF h.q. looking forward to cooking with this nutrient and mineral dense produce. We’ll be doing smaller (veggie patch size) AACT applications once life goes back to normal. Get in touch to make the most out of what you’re growing & eating. . . . .... #getyourgardengrowing #aact #activelyaeratedcomposttea #globalurbanforest #planthealthcare @ Coburg, Victoria, Australia See more

18.01.2022 It's World Soil Day Soil Health is fundamental to all life on the planet. Even ocean life! What....think about for a second....where does all the toxic chemical fertilizer end up?...in the ocean. Soil health drives plant health and plant health is key to human health. Someday we will respect soil health, humanities survival depends on it. hashtag#soil hashtag#photosynthesis hashtag#toxicity hashtag#fertility hashtag#planet http://www.fao.org//Squar/GSP_WSD_18_Banner_600x600_EN.jpg

16.01.2022 Global Urban Forest is leading the way in international Urban Forest science. Technology is finally assisting our understanding of the complexities within nature. We can all contribute to environmental science. The future of mitigating climate change with the green (Photosynthetic) component is unveiling a wealth of possibilities. https://globalurbanforest.com.au//Veale-Gardens-Walyu-Yart

13.01.2022 Trees are WILD & unique & adaptable & would be so much better off without us. We unfortunately rely heavily on trees & many other things to survive, it doesn’t seem like much but wearing a mask is so vital now so we can get on with looking after trees, to help this planet of ours. . . . .... . #maskup #treesofinstagram #planthealthcare #globalurbanforest #2020 See more

12.01.2022 A recent study outlines the importance of soil health. Take note...the word urgent is being used more often these days. Given that a major fraction of invertebrates lives below the ground, and considering their significant functional role, biodiversity monitoring urgently needs to include soil organisms and functions.

10.01.2022 As we stay at home - chats with GUF founder/CEO Matthew Daniel on COVID 19 in relation to Plant & Soil Health go a little like this. The truth is we have brought this pandemic on ourselves, Welcome to the effect of the Anthropocene. To date we have lost somewhere around 80% of wild animals and 50% of all plant spices on planet earth. Alarmingly these figures are much higher considering the fires in the Amazon, Indonesia, Russia and Australia’s 2019 bushfires.... The COVID 19 pandemic has biodiversity loss at its core. Think about it, humans are just another vertebrate land animal species. 10,000 years ago there were 1% humans and 99% wild animals. Today there are 30% humans, 1% Wild animals and 70% Agricultural Livestock. Now the component that supports the animal world including Humans is the Plant & Soil realm. Soil contains the microbial life that is fundamental to all life on earth and should be the biodiversity engine room to our Planet. Unfortunately, soils are being destroyed right now all around the world. . . . . #borrowed from abc news #moretocomenextpost #stayhome #GUF

09.01.2022 Common misconception worms eat your compost worms - they don’t! They are an indicator species. In actual fact Worms eat bacteria, fungi, Protozoa & nematodes, who then eat your compost - these micro organism are the base food source for worms. 08.01.2022 To follow on from yesterday’s rant - What does soil and plant health have to do with COVID 19 and Biodiversity? Well think about it this way.... Example one: Plant Pathogens GUF has identified and treated plant pathogens such as Phytophthora in the Urban Forest environments and found that the lack of soil microbiology diversity lead to an explosion of Phytophthora activity and in turn death of trees. Example two: Human gut Microbiome When microbes in the human gut get out of balance we are not directly protected against pathogens and our health is compromised. Human activities are destroying global ecosystems that support biodiversity. The loss of natural systems that keep everything in balance is being disrupted and things such as infectious disease can jump the species barrier because nature has lost the ability to maintain balance. Maybe Mother Nature hasn’t lost control? Maybe COVID 19 is nature tracking back control by reducing the animal spices the developed to unsustainable numbers. . . . #covid19 #noideahowthistreeisstillstanding #wevebeenwatchingitforabout5years #mothernaturetakingbackcontrol #globalurbanforest #planthealthcare

02.01.2022 Microbial interactions with plants. Our simplified diagram of how it all works.
