Our team is working round the clock to ensure support for our Clients and our Guide Dogs is maintained. Guide Dogs will always be there for them and we thank you for being there for us.... In the coming weeks we will share stories with you on how you are enabling us to support people living with blindness or low vision and our beautiful puppies in training during these challenging times. For now, we urge everyone to follow the advice from government authorities. Together we are strong. With your ongoing support we can continue to provide life-changing services to those most in need. 22.01.2022 At Guide Dogs, the safety and well-being of our Clients, staff, volunteers and supporters is our Number 1 priority. The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus is causing significant concern in the community and we are working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure we are following the appropriate guidelines for containment of the contagion within the Guide Dogs community and our loyal supporter base. We have therefore made the difficult decision to cease all involvement in e...vents until further notice. We were very much looking forward to presenting our accessible and sensory garden to you at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show to demonstrate the amazing collaboration our staff and clients have worked on in the last few months to design and create the incredible garden beds. We hope that you are able to understand that this is a very difficult decision for our Board & Senior Leadership Team to make, but we wholeheartedly feel that it is the right one. We remain eternally grateful for the support you have shown to our organisation. Right now, we are focused on ensuring the support for our Clients is maintained during this difficult time for everyone. Thank you for your support at this time. 16.01.2022 Top effort to team GDV for capping off another successful all-staff Zoom meeting today! We tip our hats to everyone who participated in this week’s headstrong dress code - it truly was a crowning achievement. Fingers crossed we can all jump on board for another catch-up next week to make it a hat-trick. Who wants to throw a hat into the ring to suggest how we could coordinate together next week?... 15.01.2022 Our April edition of ‘On the Move’ is out now! In this issue, you’ll find plenty of tips for adjusting to the ‘new normal’ and setting yourself up for success with a new routine. Our OTs and O&Ms share some great tips on how to level-up your gardening game to create an enjoyable and accessible space for all abilities.... Plus our Young Adult Program (YAP) is adapting! YAP is a fun, safe space for people who are blind or have low vision, aged between 18 and 35, to connect, share ideas, and learn from one another. During this period of social distancing, YAP is changing the way they meet. Our Coordinators are busy thinking outside the box to plan ways for our Yappers to keep connected and are hoping to create some online catch-ups. You can read more about all of this in Issue #26 of 'On the Move' found here: bit.ly/VIConthemove [Image description: OTs Danette (left) and Alyce (middle) work with Support Coordinator Russell (right) who has low vision, to create a sensory herb garden]

05.01.2022 An important safety announcement for all Guide Dog Handlers using taxis and rideshare services for travel! Some changes have been made to normal procedures for Guide Dog Handlers using taxis and rideshare services such as Uber to further minimise risk during the COVID-19 pandemic. Guide Dog Handlers are being asked to travel in the back seat of the vehicle on the recommendation of the Federal Government, the Taxi Industry, the Ride Share Services sector and Guide Dogs Aust...ralia. Guide Dogs are now required to sit at the handler’s feet in the back footwell and this change requires a different approach to entering a vehicle. 01.01.2022 Isolated, but not alone. Our all-staff meeting looked a bit different today with over 100 staff joining in via Zoom! Whilst we navigate through these unprecedented times, we know for certain that we will get through this by supporting each other and working together as one.
