25.01.2022 We extend our sincerest thanks to our major supplier, Hickey and Co, for their continued support and being so genuine and open and the bond formed with Guiding Light Funeral from day 1 in 2005-2006 remains strong and continues. From the CEO (Kate) to Paul Snr, then we have Paul Martin and Richard Garland, to the wonderful Debbie in accounts to the boys in the warehouse, simply wonderful people, sincere and we can continue on but we wont. Hickey and Co are one of the major suppliers of Funeral Goods and Chemicals in the Funeral Industry, supplying many Funeral Companies, large and small Australia wide. As for us? we are a client as others, but most importantly is, we have grown to form a strong bond. We thank the Management and staff at Hickey and Co for all their continued guidance and products and above all the support shown.

25.01.2022 From time to time, we will acknowledge the people behind the scenes at Guiding Light Funerals. These would include our suppliers, our mortuary team, our staff, we are focused on continued expansion and to offer all religious and no religious denominations funeral services with one main point "Dignity". Anything else in our view is irrelevant, apart from being sincere, dependable, trustworthy and most importantly dignified. At Guiding Light Funerals, we truly are your gu...iding light, in the most devastating time you will ever face in your life, the loss of your beloved. The grief and pain, neither us or anyone else has the right to say, we feel your pain and grief, this is simply not true, nobody can feel your pain and grief, everyone deals with this in many different ways, as for us, we will only be open and stand by your side and if you ever see a sincere tear in our eyes from time to time, well, what can we say, we would be heartless, most of us have lost a loved one, it brings memories, but we still need to be honest, sincere and professional at all times. 23.01.2022 Your Guiding Light when darkness falls upon you during the most devastating time you face, the loss of your beloved. We serve with a heart.

22.01.2022 Today 17/07/2020, it is expected by the Premier of NSW to announce new Covid Restrictions to Funerals and other matters, such as weddings. Once we become aware of these and we receive further correspondence from Cemeteries and Crematoriums, we will implement these changes. Difficult times ahead, but we need to stay safe, there is nothing anyone of us can do about this matter. Stay Safe and well.

22.01.2022 Is it necessary to place funeral details on Social Media?, yes and no. There are families that do not wish for this and we understand the reasons why the choice this, others do not mind, as for us, we will only on permission of a family place a funeral notice on this site and other social media sites, however, we form the view that it is not necessary, and from time to time, we will place a notice and only if a family approves it, and it is a matter whether we proceed to do so. However, if a family insists we do place social media content, then we will oblige and carry out their request.

22.01.2022 The only thing a family can do is respect and fulfill their loved ones wishes, nothing more or nothing less. Funerals do not need to be "OTT" which means "over the top" as one family member used this expression with us yesterday during an arrangement, and we agreed. Remember the word "Dignity" not "OTT".

21.01.2022 Another interesting topic, we call it, public education. It is worth a read, and in particular the section, not all funeral directors are the same. One more point, we live in a mutli national country and the religious requirements differ from one to another, many say cremations are the way to go, well that is incorrect, burials and repatriations will always remain. As for costs, burial plots and cremation costs (except by using our private independent crematorium facility in St Marys NSW) we cannot control, as for other costs, yes we can. We continue to serve the community since 2006. Serving families with a heart and we will always be your guiding light through the most devastating time of your life, losing a loved one.

21.01.2022 Established 2006 we have served with heart and soul, sincere, dependable, trustworthy, reliable. Serving families with a genuine heart in their time of need. We are your guiding light and will always stand by your side through the most difficult and heart breaking time of your life. We are available 24/7. We can visit you in the comforts of your own home or your are always welcomed to visit us, whether you wish to discuss an arrangement formal or inquire into a funeral in c...omfortable surroundings, have a coffee, take your time, you are most welcomed to inspect the premises, chapel, showroom contains display coffins, etc. Note: Mortuary/holding facilities are on site. Families wishing to dress their loved one due to religious beliefs or customs may do so in the Chapel only. When your loved one is placed into our care, they are transferred straight to our facility either directly by us in our own modem and equipped transfer vehicle or by State Wide Mortuary Transfers (NSW Police Contractor) all their vehicles are fully equipped and purpose built and their staff are professional and well groomed. Your loved one will only be moved from our facility for the purpose of a religious viewing at a church if requested by the family (if they do not wish for the viewing to be held at our chapel) and on the day of the funeral service. With cremations, our Doctors attend our facility and conduct their duties and issue appropriate cremations documents. We do not transfer your loved one to a Doctor or elsewhere. Cremations which are a no service no attendance, your loved one will be brought to our facility, prepared and have our Doctors attend and issue appropriate paperwork and then transferred to the crematorium. Ashes can be collected at our facility or we are more than happy to return direct to you at no added cost (Terms and conditions apply). See more

21.01.2022 Another supplier we wish to thank for their support and immaculate products and coffins and caskets is Scientia Coffins and Caskets. These products have undergone and continue to undergo regular testing and inspections to meet client demands such as us. We stand by our suppliers as they stand by us, we believe in their product as they believe in their products, stringent requirements and testing, above all, we can pass on huge savings to our family clients. We thank the management and staff for the professional, courteous and above all continued support to us. Will their coffins break? no. A picture depicts a coffin with 400 kilo weight in testing using standard handles. What more can we say, other than, well done Scientia Coffins and Caskets, very impressive.

21.01.2022 Interesting read, so we share.

21.01.2022 Behind the scenes of Guiding Light Funerals, there are the support people, without their professional approach and services, our reputation would be in taters. One particular service provider (approved) is Statewide Mortuary Transfers whom are also Police Contractors. You would have seen their staff and vans many times on TV News. Whilst we own our own transfer vehicle and do conduct transfers ourselves, there are times we will bring in Statewide. The management of Guiding Light Funerals extends to Donna, Geoff, Haley, Nick, the list is long, and all the staff, our sincerest gratitude and appreciation for their continued support, professional conduct and appearance. They have never failed us.

21.01.2022 In Loving Memory The Late Peter Letsios - Aged 85 Sadly passed away on 9/7/2020 with his beloved family by his side. A devoted husband, father and Grand Father, who was deeply loved and respected by all whom knew Peter. A well known person in the community, always there to help and offer assistance to those in need, and a very unique character full of laughs and great humor. The late Peter Letsios leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years marriage, Georgia, his beloved C...hildren, Jenny, Louie, Anna, Tony and Helen, and his Grand Children and there is a long list. All brought him much love and happiness, he lived for his family, he loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest, he reached the age of 85 and he was firm in his religious beliefs and believed in almighty God. His life has come to an end, and as such, we sincerely thank the family for entrusting us and into our care, their beloved Peter, to take care of him and prepare him for his final day in this world. He will be laid to rest, with dignity, as he was a simple man and he deserves nothing else, but Dignity. Arrangements have been completed, we remind everyone of the Covid-19 Restrictions and the 4sqm rule. In us the family saw a guiding light to be there for them and guide them through the most devastating time of their life, the passing of their beloved Peter. , , Panagiotis, , , , . With all the Saints give rest, O Christ, to your departed servants soul, Peter, where there is no pain, no sorrow and no lament, but only life eternally.

20.01.2022 Today we received a call, a person sadly passed away on Wednesday, the family are in severe financial difficulties and have been asked to assist where possible. Cremation is forbidden due to religious culture and beliefs. What do we plan on doing?, simple, what we have done in the past, provide the service free of costs, the only costs the family need to worry about it the Cemetery, not us. A rare situation but nevertheless, we will cater for them, with the religious service, the interment and at their request we will allow a private viewing in our chapel after hours.

19.01.2022 In Loving Memory The Late Panagiotis Fterniatis, born Pyrgos Ilias Greece, aged 91 years. Sadly passed away with his beloved family by his side at home, as this was his wish and on 19/06/2020, God did not want him to suffer anymore and called Panagiotis home to heaven, where he will suffer no more, but continue to live an eternal life, free of suffering and pain and to be with God and his angels and other members off his family that had passed . During ones life, you will c...Continue reading

17.01.2022 Interesting and when we think about it, we agree.

17.01.2022 We extend our sincerest gratitude to Dignified Transport, Leanne and her team are also professionals, for when we are in need, they are there without hesitation, Leanne and her team are warm and caring. Like the team at Brentwoods, Dignified Transport is there for many funeral homes, again those that do not own vehicles and those that do but fall short due to workloads in hand. The good thing about this is, either one of them can rely on the other when they are short of vehicles due to high demand by Funeral Companies and Funeral Directors that utilize the service providers. Both Dignified Transport and also Brentwoods maintain a high level of presentable vehicles and staff.

15.01.2022 Will Cremations overtake burials? - The answer is no. Remember, we live in a multi national country and with various different religious denominations, which some simply do not allow for cremations, simple as that. We also have the aspect of a person making it known before their passing that it is their expressed wish to be repatriated back to their place of birth internationally. Burials and repatriations will continue to remain.

15.01.2022 Today marks National Police Remembrance Day. To the members of our State and Federal Police Forces whom lost their lives in the line of duty, may you memories remain eternal. To our Police Force members who daily carry out their duties to serve and protect us, from our very own family members, friends, and all officers, we pray our Lord God shine his Devine love and protection to each of you and keep you safe in line of duty. To the families and friends whom have lost their loved ones in the line of duty, we salute them and honor their memories.

14.01.2022 Dear Families, Due to the growing case numbers of COVID-19 in NSW and our business requirements outlined by Service NSW to remain COVID Safe we are requesting our family clients to consider the safety of others when making appointments for funeral arrangements or Pre-Paid Funeral Bonds. We are now limiting face to face appointments to one family member and namely the senior next of kin or executor client per arrangement and we wish to request that if possible you do not bring... others along with you to the appointment. Other family members or friends will not be permitted into the premises and will be requested to remain outside. We advise we are also offering telephone appointments for the funeral arrangements or Pre-Paid Bonds and ask you to consider this option at this time. Please refer visit Service NSW for Hot spots and the locations of confirmed cases in NSW and either reschedule your appointment or arrange a phone appointment if you have been in any of the listed areas or in contact with any suspected/confirmed Covid-19 cases. Do not come to your appointment if you are feeling unwell or have had any flu like symptoms in the last 14 days. A reminder when arriving for your appointment with us, you will be required to sanitize your hands and scan the Government Mandated Data Collection that will be allocated around the office premises. Your temperature will also be taken. Thank you for your support through these challenging times and help us to remain COVID Safe. If you have any further enquiries relating to this matter please contact our office on 1800 053134. Thanking you and Kind Regards

14.01.2022 https://ezifunerals.com.au/ezifunerals-calls-for-the-appoi/ Western Australia has the toughest regulations in Australia concerning the funeral industry. It is not as simple as one may think to become one as it is here in NSW. Below is an interesting read by EziFunerals calling for the appointment of funeral inspectors here in Australia. We strongly support any Government taking this step from state level to national level. The industry unfortunately has gone beyond contro...l, the sad reality is, people believe what the see on funeral directors/companies websites. Not all funeral companies or funeral directors fall in this category, there are in fact many reputable firms and unfortunately we have the other side. Hopefully the industry will one day have a Funeral Inspectors and even more NSW follow Western Australia with their regulations. Time to clean up the industry. We invite the public to read this thread, it is indeed very interesting. We congratulate EziFunerals for their continued efforts to educate the public and consumer. See more

14.01.2022 We continue to congratulate Ezi-Funerals for their public awareness and unbiased topics, this is a great read and an eye opener. We are not owned by any corporation of any other company, truly independent and continue to serve the public with a open heart, sincere, trustworthiness and being dignified, with us we are you guiding light in a time where you will be subject to grief and illogical way of thought when you suffer the loss of your beloved. We are available 24 hours / 7 days, we never close.

13.01.2022 Below is directives from Rookwood Cemetery regarding their current social distancing criteria in accordance with the increase of numbers of people permitted to funerals. Monday 15 June 2020 Regarding: COVID-19 Safety Plan Update to services... The NSW Government has announced further easing of restrictions, effectively immediately. As a result, we are updating our procedures as we receive new information. The following changes are in effect: All funeral services and wakes now only restricted by the social distancing rule of one person per four square metres. For indoor services, we have measured each area for maximum occupancy: Venues Max. Capacity due to COVID-19 All Souls 20 people indoors + 20 people outdoors Chapel of Eternal Rest 20 people Saint Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church 20 people Beit Tephilla 3 people Village Functions @ Rookwood Amber room: 17 people Topaz room: 17 people Sapphire room: 35 To ensure everyones safety, our employees will maintain their increased standards of hygiene, PPE and distancing from the mourning party for the foreseeable future. There will be no change to the following at this stage: Funeral directors are required to record the names and telephone numbers of all persons attending a service. These attendee lists must be shared with the cemetery and retained for a period of four weeks.

11.01.2022 FUNERAL DIRECTOR PRICE LIST Disclaimer: It is a requirement that funeral information is in accordance with the Funeral Goods and Services Information Standard, contained in the NSW Fair Trading Regulation 2019. effective from 1st February 2020. Under NSW Law, all funeral directors are required to provide a written estimate of funeral charges. For information please follow this link: https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au//buying-servi/funerals... All funeral companies must by law provide pricing for the most economical Cremation and Burial Services that can be provided.

10.01.2022 It brings some comfort knowing that there is easing of social distancing rules, especially for funerals. However, we are still faced with the situation that not all venues for funerals, such as churches or chapels, etc, are able to accommodate 50 people under the 4 square meter social distancing rule. As you will see from previous posts we provided you with two examples. We are still faced with the situation, not only us but others, that when arranging a funeral, the fir...st and foremost priority in the arrangements are to establish the place of venue for the funeral, obtain from that venue the confirmation of numbers permitted (Due to the venues internal bundling size), then discuss with the family the numbers permitted. As you can also see, all Funeral Directors attending a funeral service are required to obtain details of all persons attending the service and these records are to be kept by the funeral company and the place of venue for 4 weeks. It would be fair to say it is better to have more than 10 persons in attendance than under the previous restrictions, but as most of the funerals we conduct, numbers exceed 200 people, it still remains a problem and unfortunately it will take time before we see these numbers back again. We continue to offer live stream video as do most venues to allow persons to view the funeral service.

10.01.2022 When a family undertakes a Funeral Bond with us, rest assured your funds are protected and in strict accordance with Government Guidelines and Regulations. Here at Guiding Light Funerals we are proud to be an approved agent for Sureplan Friendly Society Pty Ltd and also Australian Friendly Society. We do not utilize any other funeral bond provider. When you take out a Funeral Bond, you are automatically on a 30 Day cooling off period, which means after submission of your... Funeral Bond Application, etc., you can cancel at anytime within that 30 Day period and your funds will be refunded. Once the cooling off period has expires, you funds are locked in and will only become available to the person you nominated as the nominee (who will receive the funds) after submission of death notification and other relevant documents. You will receive correspondence from time to time which will allow you to see how your bond is performing. When you elect to take out a Pre-Paid /. Funeral Bond, the most important questions you should ask is, with whom is the bond being placed, do I have a 30 Day Cooling Off Period, can I nominate a "nominee". Any funeral company or person that may make mention to that your funds are invested by them, should automatically sound warning signs. See more

09.01.2022 With Covid - repatriations are still possible and depending on the country for destination. Covid has changed many aspects of our policy with repatriations and we have implemented new procedures. The repatriation conducted recently was successful and we placed a time frame of 5 to 10 clear working days. The deceased was repatriated on the 10th day and to Europe. Guiding Light Funerals are experienced in Repatriations, national and international and have a vast team natio...nal and international to take over on receipt of repatriated freight of human remains. We always urge families to shop around on repatriation estimates. We will match or on most occasions will better any competitors written estimate for repatriation. Terms and conditions apply: The estimate must show the estimate of Air Freight and expected time of repatriation to take place. Note: Covid Cases cannot be repatriated. See more

08.01.2022 We extend another sincere thank you to Brentwood Limousines. The team are very well known in the industry and are providers of hearses and sedans and limousines to many funeral homes whom do not own any vehicles, and others that do, whom may be short on vehicles due to their workload, they will call Brad or luke. Both are gentlemen, the staff are professionals and excellent. We thank Brentwood for their support.

07.01.2022 Enjoy life as best as one can and in such difficult times, we believe, things will not be the same again for a long time, perhaps not in any of our life time. Nobody knows when our time is up.. stay safe and well.

07.01.2022 For many on a Sunday morning, we sleep in, others wake up and head off to enjoy their day, for us, it is the same, 7 days a week, when we think we also can take that much needed break, we receive calls, we head off to transfers and if not possible for us due to other commitments we engage Statewide Mortuary Transfers. Such as today, we are again preparing for another busy week ahead. We wish everyone an enjoyable and safe Sunday.

07.01.2022 Another private service provider we wish to acknowledge and extend our sincerest gratitude for their past and continued support by them and their wonderful staff are Australian Cremation Services. Wayne and his staff are remarkable people, very dignified and professional in their approach. We are one of many other funeral homes that would utilize this company with Direct Cremations. AFS continue to offer us the best possible fees which we pass onto our family clients, henc...e one of the reasons we are able and continue to maintain our fee structure to bare minimal, to support those in financial difficulty and when they are faced with one of the most devastating time in their life, the lost of a loved one and the situation of financial difficulties. Guiding Light Funerals continue to be your guiding light, we stand apart from others, we will always find a solution, we built our reputation over the years and we continue on and will not change our ways. 07.01.2022 A beautiful small video clip of St Michaels at Rookwood Cemetery, indeed a special place and worth considering when arranging a funeral for your beloved. We serve with a heart and we are your guiding light in the most difficult time faced by you and your family. Sincere, dependable, trustworthy, dignified. We welcome you to visit us or we can attend to you in the comforts of your own home at a time suited to you, not us.

06.01.2022 Repatriations -v- Covid. We are about to complete another repatriation, this deceased is being sent back to Greece. All we will say is, if anyone tells you that any other company can repatriate to this country in under 10 days, then we suggest you deal with that company and especially if we provide an estimate and are price matched or bettered. This has been an experience and a learning curve, Covid has caused us to update our procedures, repatriations are not as easy as p...eople think and have changed due to Covid. As for us, let us just say, we told the family 5 to 10 clear working days and conducted a funeral service for their beloved recently and the end result is, their beloved is on a flight 10 working days from time of transfer. Will we promise again? no. We are extremely lucky and express our gratitude to the Greek Consulate, our translator and a huge thanks to Phil for his assistance and a huge thank you to NSW Health, and Karen whom is a gem, that is as much as we will say. Guiding Light Funerals continue to keep the standards of excellence and professionalism and expertise when it comes to Repatriations.

06.01.2022 Guiding Light Funerals will always be there for a family. We understand times are hard, certain families are faced with severe financial hardship, others will struggle. We will always find a solution to assist a family. Serving with a heart. We are your Guiding Light in your time of need.

05.01.2022 The NSW Premier announces New Restrictions to come into place. Funerals and places of worship where a funeral may take place or any other venue will now be limited to 100 people. Funerals and places of worship are still subject to the four-square-metre rule. Unfortunately we will enforce the limit on funerals after confirmation with the Church or place of venue as to their limit. Again this all comes down to the venue of service and we now await cemetery and crematorium guidelines with Chapel attendance, etc.

04.01.2022 Below is correspondence we and all other funeral directors in NSW have received from NSW BDM:- The correspondence is self explanatory. Dear Funeral Director and Families I am writing in relation to updated NSW COVID-19 guidelines that come into effect as of 12:01am Friday 24th July.... For the health of the community, it is crucial that you are aware of and follow advice from State and Federal Governments. The maximum number of people who may attend a funeral or memorial service or a gathering following a funeral or memorial service is the lesser of one person per 4 square metres or 100 people. Places of public worship can have up to 100 people subject to the 4 square metre rule and must be registered as a COVID Safe venue. Funeral homes and crematoria must also be registered as a COVID Safe business. Funerals at a place of residence are limited by the 20 person visitor rule. People attending the service will be required to supply their name and contact details so that they can be used for contact tracing. NSW Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages

04.01.2022 This is not a goodbye, this is a thank you. Thank you for coming into my life and giving me joy. Thank you for the memories. #HeavenAddress

04.01.2022 Behind the scene of every funeral company is the mortuary, in our case, we can not thank enough our team, Gary, Heather, Brad and we cannot forget Lauren. Also, our interstate mortuary teams, we will not mention names, we are aware they monitor our pages, as others do, but all we will say is, "Each and everyone of you are held dear in our hearts and the bond is unbreakable" We also thank our team here in Sydney and Interstate for their mentor ship, guidance and teachings to... one of our own members whom has completed the Embalming Cert 1V Course with the complete theoretical component successfully finished with very impressive results through the course component, now with only the final practical exam awaiting and that is it. When families tell us how beautiful their loved one presented, so peaceful and natural and they thanks us, we remind them, that the compliments received are truly directed and deserved by our Mortuary Team of Qualified Embalmers whom each take so much pride in their work and will do whatever is humanly possible to present a loved one to a family as best as possibly can. Remember, our team are not miracle workers, they can only do what the are qualified and trained to do and to their very best of their abilities. The end result is to present a family loved one viewable, peaceful and with dignity, it is all they can do. One final point we make, it is not for us or any other person to make a decision of whether a deceased is viewable or not, this decision comes down to the Qualified Embalmer only, not a Funeral Director or any person performing mortuary work (basic items). 03.01.2022 Guiding Light Funerals will remain transparent as guidelines set out by NSW Fair Trading Legislation. Our prices are transparent, we provide written estimates as required by law and if we can and wish to do so, we will match or better any competitors funeral estimate (Must be written and provided to us). In all, we believe that our pricing is competitive in the industry, we do not wish to play price wars with others and are not interested, we rely on whom we are, what we ...are and will not risk our reputation for inferior products or services. What we will do is at all times offer a family with the most economical funeral that we can provide without taking away the most important aspect, "Dignity" . Remember, the funeral costs are based on what you want and require, we will not feed on your illogical way of thinking, when you have suffered the most devastating blow in your life, the loss of your beloved. We are here in your time of need, we are your Guiding Light, we will always be transparent, sincere, trustworthy, dependable, above all dignified and stand by your side. See more

03.01.2022 The NSW Government announced that there is no longer a cap on funeral attendance, however, "as long as the four square meter rule is applied", with further easing of NSW's COVID-19 restrictions. We welcome the easing of restrictions by the NSW Government after what has been an extremely distressing time for many families over the past several months. We now await correspondence from funeral venues, such as Crematorium Chapels, Churches, etc, regarding their social distancing... review and as to the actual numbers permitted within these venues under the "Four Square Meter Rule". At present there is a requirement that all persons attending a funeral are to provide their full name and contact details. Funeral Directors, Churches, Cemeteries/Crematoriums and other funeral venues are to each keep a copy of this attendance sheet record for four (4) weeks. Personal Hygiene continues and is a requirement. See more
