23.01.2022 OPPORTUNITY | The City of Adelaide is calling for applications for their Public Art (up to $8,000) and Community Programs and Events (up to $8,000) grants. Applications are invited from artists to deliver temporary public artworks across the city centre and North Adelaide and/or from anyone looking to host events, performances or exhibitions that support dynamic city culture, celebrate diversity, community and creativity. 18.01.2022 PERSPECTIVES | ALISON KUBLER Register your place for this in person talk by writer, editor and arts consultant Alison Kubler next Wednesday 14 October, 6pm. In her talk Art and Fashion: A Complex Collaboration, Alison will unpack art and fashion’s twenty-first century dalliance and ask, 'Does art need fashion as much as fashion needs art?'.... Alison has over 20 years experience working as a curator in museums and galleries in Australia. She is a regular contributor to art journals and magazines on the subjects of art and fashion. She is currently the Editor of VAULT Magazine. Perspectives shaping the world through visual culture, an initiative developed by ACE Open, Guildhouse and The Hawke Centre University of South Australia.



18.01.2022 GUILDHOUSE PROFESSIONAL SERVICES | City of Port Adelaide Enfield sought Guildhouse's expertise last year to commission these stunning ‘Standing Figures’ by Quentin Gore for the Jetty Road Upgrade in Largs Bay. They sit alongside a cluster of Quentin’s black granite ‘Vessels’ and draw inspiration from the cultural diversity of the local community. 12.01.2022 EXHIBITION SPOTLIGHT | ZINC + WE SEE WITH MEMORY Rosina Possingham and Brianna Speight's 'ZINC' and Elizabeth Wojciak's 'We see with memory' open at praxis ARTSPACE this Thursday 1 October at 6pm. During a three-month residency at Sauerbier House Rosina Possingham and Brianna Speight collaboratively developed 'ZINC'. Responding to the surroundings of the residency, the project explores feelings associated with extreme heat, beach safety and recreation while re-imagining throw...away beach paraphernalia, warning labels and extreme heat within a playful scene of hi-visibility materials. Taking its title from the pensive quote by David Hockey, 'We see with memory' is an exploration of nostalgia, identity, and the way we store and distort memory. This exhibition reflects Wojciak’s ongoing interest in abstraction and its formal properties such as colour, texture, shape, and contrast..

09.01.2022 EXHIBITION SPOTLIGHT | EBB Chris De Rosa and Lesa Farrant's 'Ebb' opens at West Gallery Thebarton tonight. Chris and Lesa, both of whom live on and are influenced by the coast, have created individual and collaborative works inspired by shoreline walks the work of two 19th century South Australian female naturalists.... The artists have a shared concern and interest in the combination of marine organisms and shoreline detritus: a reflection of the effects of human activity on the natural marine environment. 07.01.2022 WORKSHOP | CITY MOBILITIES PUBLIC MASTERCLASS Join Tom Borgas and Paul Gazzola in this two-day intensive exploring ideas about the way we access and move in public spaces, supported by City of Adelaide. 06.01.2022 WORKSHOP | SEW YOUR OWN LATEX WALL HANGING Work with artist Kate Bohunnis to create your own latex, wall-hanging artwork in this workshop at ACE Open on Saturday 10 October. Each participant will be provided with a stainless-steel frame and pre-prepared latex with eyelets fitted. By then end of the session, each participant can take home their new latex wall hanging, that can be mounted on the wall with the stainless-steel frame.... This workshop provides anyone interested in working with atypical materials a chance to explore latex as a canvas and create a unique piece of contemporary art.

05.01.2022 WORKSHOP | GRASSY SHADOWS Join Laura Wills and Louise Flaherty for 'Grassy Shadows', an ephemeral drawing workshop exploring native grass landscapes that once heavily inhabited the Adelaide plains. Through this hands-on workshop natural materials will be used to create immersive drawings for a site-specific public space that explore our personal experience of the native plant world. There are two workshops: Sunday 27 September, 11am & Tuesday 29 September, 10am.... Tickets from $10.

04.01.2022 EXHIBITION SPOTLIGHT | DOMESTIC ARTS Sera Waters's touring exhibition 'Domestic Arts' kicks off this Sunday 2pm at FABRIK. In this exhibition Sera delves into her own family history to unravel the complexities of settler colonial home-making and the contemporary significance of traditional home-crafts. Large-scale sculptures and intricate embroideries are used to re-imagine the familial home, celebrating the knowledge and creativity of ‘women’s work’, while interrogating its complicity in forms of colonisation and privilege.

03.01.2022 REVISION SPEAKER SERIES | CLARE BELFRAGE AND YHONNIE SCARCE Yhonnie Scarce is a Kokatha and Nukunu artist living and working in Adelaide and Melbourne, known for her anthropomorphic forms and installations that explore the political and aesthetic properties of glass. Yhonnie's installations frequently feature yams and other bush foods as metaphors for the body, culture and tradition, and in order to highlight the legacies and trauma of colonisation on Indigenous Australians. ...Her work 'In Absence', pictured here, was created in collaboration with architecture studio Edition Office and has just won the Award for Small Project Architecture in the 2020 National Architecture Awards. You may also remember seeing Yhonnie's 'In the Dead House' in the '2020 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: Monster Theatres' at the Art Gallery of South Australia earlier this year. The installation unearthed a macabre history of late-nineteenth century post-mortem practices enacted upon Aboriginal and vulnerable peoples bodies connected to the former Adelaide Lunatic Asylum Morgue a relic building which stands today on the grounds of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Yhonnie was also part of our reVision Spring Speaker Series along with her fellow artist working in glass Clare Belfrage. 02.01.2022 ARTIST PROFILE | Azzurro is a highly commissioned international designer and street artist from South Australia. His artwork is known for being imagination-drenched, vibrant, colourful and futuristic. Azzurro uses acrylic brush, paint pen and aerosols to create immersive large scale street art style pieces indoors and outdoors. His slick, clean linework encases vivid rainbow pattern and adventurous subject matter. His most notable public works can be found in the Adelaide Central Markets and all over Jetty Road in Brighton.
