23.01.2022 Hand scraping the curves. This is a process that only a human can do. No machine can ever come close. Early type Les Paul’s has such beautifully sculpted deep curves on their tops. Not every era of the real production ones retained this detail. This was Richards first ever guitar build which featured a highly figured Blackwood top over chambered Mahogany. The fancy Blackwood was replicated on its headstock. I love this design as it reminds me of Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top in the 80s, but many will have a strong association with Metallica. 02.01.2022 This doesnt look like much now, but this shipment of white Limba or Korina as Gibson renamed it, will be going into a rather exotic Moderne replica. Designed in the late 50s and shown at NAMM alongside the Gibson Futura (later to become the Explorer) and the Flying V. As radical as its two other Gibson siblings, it never went into production. Guitar mythology has it that only a few prototypes were made. If one of these were to be uncovered today it would undoubtedly become the most expensive and rare guitar out there. Gibson later re-released the Moderne in the early 80s making around 150 of them in this (Korina) material. These have become very collectible and carry a hefty price tag.
