06.01.2022 I love this clip. I believe one of the most important roles of a great teacher and mentor is to raise the sights of their students. To help them see and believe in their potential. To help them see that they have their own important story to tell. "Genuine praise and encouragement" is a very important and necessary strategy to help students believe they can achieve their goals. We all need it to some extent. Those who say they don't, are kidding themselves. There are too ma...ny people out there that boost their own, perceived, self worth by focusing on what the student is doing wrong. My own experiences as a music teacher and mentor, for over 25 years, is that lasting positive results are achieved by genuinely believing in each student's potential to achieve their goal, helping them to see it through positive encouragement supported with examples which we work through together. It's a highly rewarding way to teach. The biggest reward is the depth of trust in the relationship between the teacher and student, which has a long lasting impact on both of us.
