20.01.2022 Here's another beginner's lesson on how to play a country strumming pattern. We'll use part of 'Wagon Wheel' by Darius Rucker for this, but seek to apply the strumming pattern in as many instances as possible with other songs too.

18.01.2022 Interested in getting into fingerstyle? One great way to start is by playing patterns through chords. Here's a few patterns to get you on your way.

17.01.2022 This video demonstrates a couple of things. Firlsty, the use of the Mid-Side recording techniue on both acoustic guitars. This produces a part with a lot of depth to it. Secondly, the use of Nashville tuning. The Maton is strung in this fashion. By combing the two guitar parts I am able to obtain a really interetsing part as a whole, with lots of chime. This is great if you don;t have a 12-String, find it hard to fingerpick on a 12-String if you do have one, or want great greater control in the mixing and editing stage with each guitar part. Part of my upcoming Patreon course on acoustic guitar.

17.01.2022 Recording an acoustic guitar should be simple, right? Just point a microphone at the soundhole and hot the red button! Not quite. In fact, pointing the mic at the sound hole is about the worst thing you can do. It will more than likely sound horrible recording from that position. There is an art to capturing the acoustic guitar in a recording, and many different approaches (which will of course yield many different results).... 15.01.2022 Here's an excerpt from a video I have produced for some of my students on strumming patterns. When learning a new rhythm, cycling it over with some simple chords is a great way to practice and internalise the process. Practicing to a metronome, drum beat or track such as the one I have recorded is a great way to develop your timing and groove; this really helps when playing with other people! Online and face-to-face lessons (at your place) in Wollongong and the Sutherland Shi...re. Lessons for all ages and stages of player. Fingerstyle and improvisation a specialty. 30 and 60 minute slots. 30 minute lessons: $50 for a lesson at student's place. $45 per casual lesson at Top Note Singing Caringbah. $40 for a block of 10 lessons (1 term) at Top Note Singing Caringbah. $40 for an online lesson. 60 minute lessons: $80 lesson at your place. $75 per casual lesson at Top Note SInging Caringbah $70 for a block of 10 lessons (1 term) at Top Note SInging Caringbah $70 for an online lesson. 14.01.2022 In this video we go over 5 positions of the scale, and then repeat the first an octave higher. The pentatonic scale has been used in countless solos in rock, pop, jazz, country, folk, and world music. Play these shapes up and down using strict alternate picking for now. In the future, we'll build on from this and add in other approaches to picking and slurring notes, as well as exploring ways to create music from solos.

12.01.2022 Sometimes the tuning used really makes the song and the guitar part. To play Daughter and sound like Pearl Jam you need to tune your guitar to G G D G B D from the low to high strings. With this tuning and one moveable shape consisting of two fingers combined with open strings, you have about 90% of the song's rhythm part down! Interested in taking your playing to a new level or in a new direction? I'm offering limited lessons face-to-face at your home in the northern Wollongong and Sutherland Shire regions, as well as lessons in Caringbah South on Thursday afternoons through Top Note Singing, as well as online lessons at other times during the week.

11.01.2022 Some people are convinced it's best to not have any help or receive any lessons when learning an instrument; here are some reasons why learning with the right teacher for you is so beneficial. https://greatscottmusic.com.au/the-value-and-importance-of/

11.01.2022 This Friday night.

10.01.2022 You've heard the saying ' practice makes perfect'. In fact it is better to say 'perfect practice makes perfect'. There are many aspects to practice which will determine how we progress on the guitar, whether we advance as expected or even put a ceiling on how far we can progress because while we might be putting in the time, we might be reinforcing bad habits instead of developing good ones. This post is the first in a series on how to achieve the best results when you are practicing your instrument.https://greatscottmusic.com.au/perfect-practice-makes-perf/

09.01.2022 Fans of my tasteless guitar playing, rejoice! You can catch me ripping up tunes such as 'Buses and Trains' by Batchelor Girl in this fashion tonight with Steph...anie Bruno at Moss Vale Services from 7pm. After 8 months of playing very little electric, I firmly believe the world needs to hear every note I would have typically played in that time frame during a normal year, possibly all in the one song! Steph may be permitted to sing a note here and there, amidst the gaucherie erupting from my guitars. As this is a Covid safe gig, I am sorry to say, ladies, that you cannot swarm the stage to get to me this time. See more

09.01.2022 One of the most beautiful sounds you can get from the guitar. This is the first video on how to execute the technqiue; we'll go further with more advanced chord shapes and harmonies next time. To follow along simply barre the 5th fret with your index finger.

08.01.2022 June 5 is hopefully the date we can now run with for "Scotty B Teaches the World's Longest Guitar Lesson". This will be a fundraiser for the incredible work of ...the Sydney Children's Hospital, and tie in with the one and only Glenn Murray's "Bands For Kids" fundraiser for the same purpose. A 25 hour guitar extravaganza! As if that isn't exciting enough, we'll be doing it for the kids and their families who need a lot of love and support for all they are going through, so that's even better! Guitars once again making the world a better place, 'coz that's how they work. So come for the guitar lesson, stay to do something really awesome for the kids who need it, and you might even be able to have a chat with my little buddy Zakuba, if he's allowed to be there.
