25.01.2022 Greetings pickers!! This ol’ Maton Coolabah came in from the country with a lifting bridge & awful playing action - probably caused by years of running the wrong strings. It’s built as a folk guitar with ladder bracing & no bridge plate underneath - nothing like a modern steel string guitar - it should have had low tension strings it’s whole life! Ordinarily the set angle of the neck should have been rectified - but it’s an expensive solution for a Guitar of this ilk & the n...eck join had already had some sort of epoxy squeezed in there for a crack repair sometime in the past. The solution was to fabricate a new low profile, yet oversized Rosewood bridge & move the string entry points back 4mm to re-compensate for the distorted scale length. We also installed a maple bridge plate for future strength & set it up with the right strings.. (silk & steel) She plays & sounds great See more

25.01.2022 Howdy Pickers! It’s always a fun day when I get to work on guitars older than me This one - 1962 Fender Bass XI - is in a world of its own, a Bass that wants to play chords! ... Thanks to Rick for bringing her in- here’s to another 50 years of thumpin’ riffs!

23.01.2022 Ola Pickers! We’ll be swapping the fret files for fishing rods next week as we take a short break from reality & recharge the batteries! Shop will re-open Tuesday 21st January

22.01.2022 Happy Friday Pickers!! Lots of frets coming out all over the bench today (on purpose, of course.. ) We’ll post the after shots next week - the Telecaster is well on the way.. with the Les Paul a distant second & a there’s couple more that won’t even see daylight until I see a days rest.. Ava good weekend

20.01.2022 Howdy Pickers! Hope you’re all safely tucked away with your loved ones (And your family) We’re still happily chippin’ away in the workshop.. call ahead or swing by - just don’t expect a hug ... Today’s bench story makes me feel (even more) proud to do what I do. This old 70’s Electa Hummingbird came in a mess & needed a bunch of love to get it singing again - but sing she now does! It’s a family heirloom that wanted restoration so a couple of young fellas could take up the guitar on the same instrument their Dad recently left behind in this crazy world. Happy pickin’ boys!

19.01.2022 Howdy Pickers! Don’t see them everyday- but when we do, it’s a fun day! Gibson EDS-1275 from 1996 in original mint condition- checked & authenticated by yours truly!... For Sale now @ Guitar Rescue!

19.01.2022 Stay well Pickers!! Look after your elderly!! It’s a great chance to write, practice or create if you end up hunkered down a while! ... Business as usual here at GR - This mask oughta do it!

19.01.2022 Howdy Pickers! Time to shift a few of these old gee-tars I got laying around - let’s start with this one! Fender USA 1962 Stratocaster reissue - 1989 vintage - true to spec with original nitro 3 tone burst finish & original tweed hard case. ... Very light & resonant - pickups sound amazing! Available now at Guitar Rescue!

14.01.2022 Howdy Pickers!! Hope everyone’s smashing those frets during these strange days of sequestration (my new word for the day!) Here’s a little photo story of a fun job I finished this week for our new friend Rick - it’s a National Reso-Rocket & the original brief was to install a Highlander transducer and a Hot Plate pickup assembly.. however upon closer inspection it was deemed necessary to remove, modify and re-set the neck shaft in order to achieve optimum geometry, tone and... playability. It’s a complicated job, but well worth the cost & effort on these gorgeous (and expensive) instruments. Happy Friday!! See more

14.01.2022 It must be super-cool-vintage-bass week here at Guitar Rescue This 1973 Precision Fretless Bass is in great condition & was a joy to work on - thanks Rick! Now, I’m pretty sure there’s a ‘63 Stratocaster next in the rack.. straight after coffee

12.01.2022 Business as unusual here at GR.. Stay safe people!

11.01.2022 Hey Pickers! I’ve had the immeasurable pleasure of working on an immeasurable quantity of Maton Guitars over the years - but these 2 instruments (both in for re-fretting and maximum restorative love) really stand out in the crowd! The first is a George Golla jazz box that can swim in the deep end with most any arch top -the second a Messiah all solid dreadnought.. Maton’s flagship acoustic.... Note the golden hue of the Jescar EVO fretwire - harder than Nickel silver alloy - softer that stainless steel - so like goldilocks would say Just Right Both Made in ‘Straya Both owned by a sweet guy called Pete! (Different guys though) Noice!!

10.01.2022 Howdy Pickers! First week back for 2020 - and what a fun way to start the year! This (mostly original) early 1970s Gibson SG deluxe belongs to our friend Hamish and I can’t wait to see the grin across his face when he comes to pick it up! Re-fret & set up , fitted a new polished bone nut, installed a complete new wiring harness (pots, switch, jack) and packed the original electronics away for future provenance. ... If only it weren’t left handed - we might not have given it back Happy Friday!
