An accomplished and versatile guitarist, Mark has played in numerous bands, duos and trios with some of the country's most esteemed musicians, including in the Mark Sholtez support act for jazz legend Diana Krall on her Australian tour, taking to the main stage at the Sydney Opera House, Melbournes Palais Theatre and Brisbane Convention Centre. ...He also played with the Don Burrows Big Band, Hip Hop Horns and in touring productions by David Atkins and Jonathan Biggins. Mark has taught guitar lessons at the University of New South Wales, St Aidans Anglican Girls School, Clayfield College and Chatswood High School. 01.01.2022 Has your child completed their sheet? We cant wait to read them! In the spirit of sharing, Guitar Sparkz teacher Mark Turner (pictured as a teen playing his very first gee-tar back in the day) completed his own below! ? Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page was a big inspiration to me, particularly his acoustic guitar and mandolin playing. John Bonham is also my all-time favourite drummer. ... ? Eric Clapton, John McLaughlin, Neal Schon, Carlos Santana, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Jimmy Page. ? Led Zeppelin II especially the song Rock and Roll, it feels like an old train going down a track. ? As a boy, sitting under the piano listening to my dad play boogie-woogie and jazz sparked a love of music in me at an early age. ? About 10 years old - I started playing at school. I later traded my BMX handle bars with a friend for his guitar (the one in the photo) and never looked back. ? At the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (and elsewhere) and on the road! ? My Ibanez six-string bass (which I played in a few bands). It was a beautiful instrument and I wish Id hung onto it. ? As a young man straight out of music college, I may have taken a gig in a rock musical and had to wear platform shoes and spandex tights it was pretty funny but it paid really well and I got to tour around the country (my mum still has the newspaper clippings hidden somewhere). ? I love music and the guitar is how I express that. I want to pass on my knowledge to young people who want to learn music too.
