07.01.2022 The Gulgong Prince of Wales Eisteddfod has concluded for another year. May is traditionally Eisteddfod month in Gulgong and this year the Eisteddfod celebrated 39 years. Beginning with a huge week of dance with 21 sessions over 7 days. The Speech section followed over five days with two schools days and three days of solo performances. The Music programme followed which also received a boost in entries now hosting two schools days also. With growth across all three syllab...uses it is evident that the community enjoy participating in our Eisteddfod. We have welcomed new faces and enjoy seeing familiar faces return. The showcase of talent is outstanding and the audience love watching the young people perform. The committee are grateful for the support of all our sponsors especially our major sponsors Mid-Western Regional Council and Gulgong Timber and Hardware, said Louise Butlin. This year the Eisteddfod saw a community member reach a special milestone, Kate Harris, currently of St Matthews Catholic School, Mudgee, celebrate 25 years of supporting young people participating in the Gulgong Prince of Wales Eisteddfod. She begun bringing students to the Eisteddfod when she was teaching at All Hallows Gulgong in 1994 and now is an integral part of supporting both staff and students at St Matthews with their participation. To celebrate all the talent showcased throughout the Eisteddfod, it concluded Friday 31st May with the Gala Concert at the Gulgong Prince of Wales Opera House followed by the Roger Woodward Play off. There were five performers invited by the Music Adjudicator to participate in the Roger Woodward Playoff: Caitlin Haynes (Piano), Darsharni Martins (Vocals), Hannah Boland (Piano), Laykus Woods (Trumpet) and Lucinda Lillis (Flute). The standard of the playoff was of a very high standard making it difficult for the judges and audience to select the winner. After careful deliberation, the Roger Woodward Award which is selected by a panel of judges was announced with the winner as Hannah Boland. The audience get the opportunity to each vote for their Audience Choice Award and this year it was awarded to Lucinda Lillis. Guntawang Stud kindly donated the prizes for both awards. The Eisteddfod Committee wish to thank everyone who was involved with the Eisteddfod especially the small team of volunteers who work so hard to support this community event which brings on average 6,000 people to Gulgong each year. If you wish to help volunteer to assist with the 40th Gulgong Prince of Wales Eisteddfod in 2020 please email [email protected]. See more
