24.01.2022 Daniel Morcombe Foundation - Keeping Kids Safe On Friday we supported ‘Day for Daniel’ a foundation set up in Daniels honour to make Australia safer for our children. We helped raise funds and awareness to continue developing resources and programs for parents, carers and educators to teach children how to stay safe. Funds also contribute to supporting young victims of crime. During group time in our Dragonflies room the children watched a video that is one of the many resou...rces available on the foundations website that talks about different feelings, the importance of feeling safe and why not to talk to strangers. A very big thanks to all the families and educators who wore red and donated. The glass jar will remain at reception until the end of the week for those who would still like to donate. Thank you for showing your support.
22.01.2022 Meet and Greet Tonight we hosted a ‘Meet and Greet’ event. With all children now settled into their news rooms for 2021, this was a great opportunity for parents to meet their children’s educators, get familiar with their new rooms and learn more about what we have planned for the year ahead. A big thanks to all those that attended, it was so lovely for our educators to catch up with you all. We are so excited for what we have planned for our children’s learning this year and can’t wait to share their milestones and experiences with you.
19.01.2022 Australia Day We had a busy and exciting week with the lead up to Australia Day with our learning studios inviting the children to many wonderful experiences. Beautiful stories were read along with creative art experiences, learning about Australia animals and some delicious cooking experiences including homemade pavlova and lamington cake. ... We concluded the celebration with a delicious in-house traditional ‘Aussie bbq’ lunch for the children to enjoy. Happy Australia Day!
19.01.2022 Bush Kinder This weeks learning intention for bush kinder was to explore the natural environment to see what we could find and use in multiple ways. We began our session by reading the story,’ Stuck,’ to where we discussed how the main character used their imagination and creativity skills to explore objects in multiple ways. ... From here, we discussed the nature map we would be using, to search for resources. We broke off into small groups and began our investigation. The children explored the large logs and decided to practice their balancing and jumping skills. We collected some natural materials such as sticks, feathers, leaves, rocks, flowers and bark to then bring back to Kinder to then explore further and use within our learning. Once we had collected and completed the steps on the map, we sat as a group to reflect and share what we had found. #bushkinder #gumbootselcsouthmorang #southmorangchildcare #learninginnature
15.01.2022 Grandparents Day 2020 Yesterday was National Day. This year we had to celebrate this special day a little differently for all the Grandparent’s in our Gumboots South Morang community. Over the past few weeks the children have been busy preparing special letters and artwork to mail out to their grandparents. They approached this initiative with much excitement. ... We hope that these letters warmed the hearts of their very much loved Grandparents who we dearly miss visiting our centre. Happy National Grandparents Day from the Gumboots team at South Morang.

11.01.2022 BOOK WEEK 2020 What an inspiring week our children and educators have enjoyed celebrating Children’s Book Week. 11.01.2022 Bush Kinder - Bug and Insect Investigation. The children were so excited to go on their very first Bush Kinder learning experience for 2021 today. We commenced at the reserve and started with a group time discussion reading a book about bugs and discussed where bugs like to hide and how to handle particular bugs safely and what to not touch. ... We then broke off into small groups. Using a bug hunt checklist, we explored the natural environment whilst ticking off all the bugs and insects we found. We searched high and low, on the ground and on bark and trees. After investigating the environment, we came back together as a group and reflected on what we found. We shared as a group all our findings, before returning back to kindergarten. Upon returning, we reflected on our outing by drawing what we found on the whiteboard, transferring our knowledge from one context to another. Engaging with the community, is a good way for the children to explore the world around them. Children are showing a great sense of responsibility as they learn about safety and follow the learning intention of the group. We can’t wait for our next bush kinder session next week!
09.01.2022 Chinese New Year Yesterday the children across our learning studio’s were invited to our Piazza to make delicious beef, chicken and vegetarian dumplings with our chef Monica. 09.01.2022 Collage Experience Our Butterflies children were invited to a spontaneous collage experience using natural materials. Green foliage, gum leaves, dried purple flowers and sand was set up for the children to explore and make choices on what they preferred to glue over the piece of cardboard. Some children chose to use brushes whilst others decided to use their hands to further investigate. The children worked well in small groups as they engaged in this experience with curiosity and wonder and were very resourceful using the materials to create this lovely piece.

05.01.2022 Music A beautiful invitation for our toddlers to embrace music in their outdoor environment. Here, the children were able to engage with musical instruments with no direction but to follow their own lead. River rocks and sticks were investigated as they discovered that 2 rocks tapped together created a beat. ... Playing or listening to music can empower children to have deep connections to their emotions, confidence and memories that can take them on a magical journey whilst making connections to nature.
