18.01.2022 GUMERACHA & DISTRICT HISTORY CENTRE INC. Ph: 8389 1462 during opening hours or to leave a message or 8389 2224 out of hours. The Torrens Valley and District Historical Society combined with the Gumeracha District Local History Centre on 23 February 1994 to form the Gumeracha & District History Centre Inc.... The Centre continues the traditions of the Torrens Valley and District Historical Society established in 1976. The Centre is located adjacent to the Library in the Gumeracha Community Centre/Town Hall complex and is generally open to the public as follows: Tuesday 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. from the first Tuesday in February to the second Tuesday in December. Access at other times is by appointment. (Opening charges apply) Items held in the collections are for reference and are not for loan. The Collection comprises material covering the Torrens Valley Ward of the Adelaide Hills Council, including the townships of Birdwood, Chain of Ponds, Cudlee Creek, Forreston, Gumeracha, Hermitage, Houghton, Inglewood, Kersbrook, Millbrook, Mount Torrens, Paracombe, and Sunning Hill. Resources available include births, deaths, and marriage records, police and lodge records, council assessments, newspaper cuttings. The Centre has a very large collection of unpublished family histories and biographies. Much of our collection is not available elsewhere. The Centre welcomes donations of material for its collections. It is also prepared to copy material on site when owners do not wish to part with originals. Research may be conducted at our Centre for a donation plus copying charges, alternatively we do offer a postal research service. Our charges are as follows: $50 for a 2 hour search of our records 50c per A4 photocopy $1 per A3 photocopy $4 per map $8 per birth, death or marriage certificate transcription Photographs are between $5 and $20. Postage and handling $10
03.01.2022 As of the 7th July 2020 the History Centre will be open to the public by appointment. Ph: 83892224 or 0433537989
02.01.2022 The History Centre is an independent body and not a part of the Adelaide Hills Council or Library and we rely on donations to survive. Unfortunately, as of 23/04/2019 we have had to initiate a base research charge because we have had so many people using our services and resources and then leave without making a donation: Our charges are as follows: Research $10.00 per day or part thereof... 50c per A4 black and white photocopy $1.00 per A4 colour photocopy $1.00 per A3 black and white photo $2.00 per A3 colour photo colour photo copy 50c per page taken by phone or camera $4.00 per map $10.00 per Birth, Death or Marriage transcription $6.00 per copy of photograph (small) $8.00 per copy of photograph (large) $3.00 per photo taken by phone or camera A donation would also be very much appreciated.
