25.01.2022 Words to support your child to feel heard and their emotions validated.
25.01.2022 This morning we continued our NAIDOC celebrations outside in the big yard. We gathered as a group ready to celebrate Australia’s first ever artists and instrument makers. We took a close look at different sacred Aboriginal instruments and their importance. We were able to listen to them being played and the different noises they make. We learnt some new words for Hello ( Yaama), Emu (Dinawan) and Kangaroo (Bandaarr) which we will continue practicing and incorporating within our day. The children had a wonderful morning experiencing some of the sacred and beautiful traditions Aboriginal culture has to offer.

14.01.2022 Today we remembered
13.01.2022 This morning we continued our exploration into some of the most important aspects of Indigenous culture. Today we learnt about Humpy’s, traditional Aboriginal shelters that were made by hand using bark, tree limbs and leaves. We added cardboard boxes around the table to create our shelter and allowed the children to paint them so it felt unique to them. We added bark and leaves from our own yards to create a more authentic feeling Humpy. Our exploration into a Shelter emphasized the architectural skills and ability it took for Aboriginal people to build these incredible structures by hand.
12.01.2022 Today the PrePrep and senior Kindy children helped prepare a savoury dish called Inji Thayir, consisting of natural yoghurt, lots of ginger, and sometimes grated coconut. The children helped measure and mix the ingredients before putting them in the food processor, all the while talking about India and Onam and even smelling the ginger! Our friends tried it with their hands just like they do in India sometimes, and gave a thumbs up or thumbs down depending on whether they liked it. Some loved it and wanted more, while others decided it wasn’t for them! The children were encouraged to use describing words to explain the taste. It’s sweet! Too crunchy. It tastes sour! Opinions were split down the middle! Everyone had fun trying this taste of Indian culture though.
12.01.2022 It felt a little like Christmas morning today as we opened our new resources. I can’t wait to see the play and learning experiences that come from these new resources.

07.01.2022 This morning we continued our NAIDOC celebrations outside in the big yard. The children were able to participate in a number of activities that capture and celebrate different aspects of Aboriginal culture. Today’s focus was Australia’s first Artists. We explored traditional ways of practicing art such as dot painting on rocks and bark. We incorporated Aboriginal symbols into our art and used cotton tips when painting our rocks to help us further explore the art form that dot painting is. The children were engrossed in learning and exploring this morning and took great pleasure in trying out each different activity. Fostering a love and curiosity for Indigenous culture now opens important path ways for our future generations to navigate conversations and appreciation about our countries rich history.
06.01.2022 Wishing everyone a very Happy Easter. We hope you all have a lovely day.
06.01.2022 Our 8 week summer program starts next week. Casual bookings are available. Here is a sneak peak at the first 2 weeks.
06.01.2022 This morning the children explored the Torres Strait Islander Flag. We discussed the colours and what they might stand for and the symbols as well. We learnt the symbols are a Dhari (headdress) which is a symbol of Torres Strait Islanders. The white five pointed star beneath it symbolises peace, the five major island groups and the navigational importance of stars to the seafaring people of the Torres Strait. The green stripes represent the land, the black stripes represent the people, and the blue the sea. The children tried to draw the Dhari and Star.
05.01.2022 Children are effective communicators actively using, engaging with and sharing the enjoyment of language and texts in a range of ways. #Lifelong Learning
04.01.2022 To celebrate our first week of our ‘Around the world’ Summer Program we began by exploring a popular Traditional Indian dish called Kheer. This dish was recommended to us by Dan’s family. The children used our utensils to dish up the correct measurements of each ingredient. We measured out our milk, sugar, rice and cardamom pods. Our friends used metal spoons to try crush the cardamom pods which in the end proved to be quite tricky. Everyone did a wonderful job taking turns in helping dish out each of the ingredients and showed a great level of interest as they eagerly waited their turn. Overall we had a wonderful cooking experience and are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate some of the wonderful tastes and flavours India has to offer.
