23.01.2022 Come down and bring he kids to check out the Historic Gundagai Railway Station these school holidays.

22.01.2022 Sorry to advise the Railway Station will closed until further notice due to Covid 19 protocols.

20.01.2022 Over last year the small committee has been working together with the University of Western Sydney to create digital models of our two heritage timber bridges. This is a bit of a taste of what the models can be useful for in preserving a record of the bridges and any future interpretation. https://youtu.be/dqaha7J-x4U We have also been working closely with various state government departments on options for the Gundagai Railway Bridge and the future management of the Prince ...Alfred Road Bridge. We hope in the new year we will start to see some progress in the management of these icons of the Riverina. See more

18.01.2022 Gundagai's Heritage Railway Station and Museum Following 20 years of community and political representation the Railway Station at Gundagai was officially opene...d on 21 July 1886. In 1903 the branch line was extended to Tumut, following the completion of the railway bridge across the Murrumbidgee River flood plain. For 98 years it was the hub of Gundagai's existence carrying freight, passengers and mail to and from the cities of Sydney and Melbourne. Following damaging floods in 1984 the branch line was closed and in 1989 the State Rail Authority abandoned the building. The station complex was significantly refurbished in the 1990s, and is now open daily to the public as a museum. One visitor described the museum as: "Magical. You can feel the history round you." . . . . . . #visitgundagai #historicaustralia #gundagainsw #GHR #GundagaiHistoricRailway #gundagai #takethetrackwindingback

Why not take a drive down to the fully restored Gundagai Heritage Railway and check out the series... of historical displays and items inside and around the station. A variety of large display boards showing photos and maps can be seen in the former refreshment room. 10.01.2022 Time has come to search for our next caretaker. Huge thanks to Dave and Red (the dog) for all the work they have done at the station over the last couple of years and always being so welcoming to visitors. The caretaker position is a live in position, with accomodation, electricity and water provided in return for general maintenance, gardening, cleaning and other duties. ... Being friendly, handy, willing to work with others and an interest in heritage is preferred. If interested please send a direct message to the Facebook page or call Mason on 0408 725 765 for further details.

09.01.2022 Great bit of history

08.01.2022 Awesome night shot of the bridges @matt_wesley

08.01.2022 School holidays are coming to an end, but there is still time to check out the old Gundagai Railway Station. The station and grounds are looking great thanks to our new friendly care taker Helen, resulting in record high visitation.

01.01.2022 Our two timber bridges in Gundagai, the Railway bridge and Prince Alfred Bridge (the old road bridge) are two of Australia’s most significant heritage bridges and a major tourist attraction for the region, of international appeal. With both their futures uncertain, with The road bridge rapidly deteriorating and the rail bridge’s future options being explore by John Holland Rail ( including the option of partial demolition), we have started the process of creating high quality 3D digital models of the bridges. These models will be important for posterity and promotion to attract funding and future interpretation and conservation.
