23.01.2022 OUR YARNING CIRCLE AND FIRE PIT IS FINISHED! Understanding, valuing, and supporting the rich and unique aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through the addition of our yarning circle and fire pit. Gundagai Preschool was successful in securing NSW Government Quality Learning Environment grants to implement a 10 week pilot program co-developed with National Parks in 2019. ... It was from this program we decided to replace our ageing cubby house structure with a yarning circle. We researched yarning circles, fire pits and bush tucker flora. We asked the community for feedback and the children assisted in planning. Their voices and design elements were the driving force for the addition of the fire pit. The development of a fire pit policy and risk assessment was required and the purchase of safety equipment a must. Our children now have a special place where they can learn from others in an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative way. Thank you to Brad Norden Landscaping for completing our vision. We hope to share our space with the community once COVID restrictions are lifted. This week we have learnt about fire safety and told some ‘yarns’ around the fire while toasting our marshmallows.
