20.01.2022 I debated whether to put this photo up and in the end decided this is reality! We all post the good news photos only, in fear of upsetting people but life comes with death and sometimes things just don’t work out how you want them too no matter how hard you try. This little fella didn’t make it....not through lack of trying on my behalf!!! I’ve been watching his mum as she had trouble last year. I get up all through the night to check my calving cows. Cows are like humans som...e need assistance and some can do it by themselves. His mum wouldn’t get on with it, every time he pushed her to try she’d get up and run away. Deciding when to intervene is not easy in this situation...if you give her a bit more time she’ll have to do it, if you go to early you could hurt her and the calf. But waiting can be a fine line too, you don’t want the calf to get exhausted and die. In this case this little fella was alive when I hooked the ropes to his front feet, but had died by the time I got him out, I tried to revive him...he just couldn’t do it. His mum loved him, and her maternal instincts made me cry and apologise for not saving him...she’d have been a good mum. I feel any deaths strongly, I feel the health of my cows is my responsibility and I take that seriously, when this kind of thing happens, I feel it deeply, and it has nothing to do with money...it’s because I’m a farmer and I care! #highcountryblondes #proudtofarm #blondedaquitainecattle #autralianfarmers #thefarmersofaustralia #aussieag #ladiesfromthelandaus #farming #beeffarming #youngaussiefarmers_official #womeninag #healthyherd #grassfedbeef #workingwithcattle #australiancattle #cattlehandling #commercialcattle #beefcattle #aussiebeef #farmingaustralia #allthingsagriculture #farmersconnect See more
