15.01.2022 INDIGENOUS WAR MEMORIAL MURAL IN HEYWOOD RECEIVES SHARKPITCH FUNDS Troy Lovett was happy to receive a cheque for $16,039 thanks to the generous donation of indi...viduals, families, businesses and charities after pitching to a live virtual audience in early October. The project is currently undergoing community consultation with March 2021 projected as the finish date! Remember there are other ways you can support Leadership Great South Coast beyond funding including pro-bono and in-kind support. Here’s how! 1. Support with digital story documenting the tower process 2. Promotion of community consultations and project through networks and socials 3. Metal smoking bowl 4. Facility hire for our project launch in Heywood TROY SAYS "THANK-YOU" I would like to start by firstly saying WOW! The fantastic support our community project received both in dollars and the number of people who attended the event has been mind-blowing. United Way Glenelg’s Shark Pitch event has been a wonderful and very humbling learning experience for me to be a part of. Thank you so much for your generous contribution to the Indigenous War Memorial Mural project. We know this project is going to make a real difference in our community and you have helped us with achieving our dream. Thanks to you, we can now take our project to the next level, adding to our original plan of painting a mural on the Heywood Water Tower. We had also hoped to install landscaping and signage at the base of the tower to serve as a reflection space and with your generous donation, we can now make this happen. The signage will serve as recognition to all Gunditjmara men and women who served in the Australian Defence Force and the reflection space will include a smoking bowl for the community to pay respects and continue to heal. This takes the project from a great mural to welcoming community space for all. As mentioned, being involved in the Shark Pitch event has blown my mind. On the night I couldn’t see the individual donations as they were being pledged, I did sense all the support coming in from my local community which was such a great feeling. Then at the reveal of the funds raised you had collectively doubled our original goal which for me was the cherry on top. Our Leadership Great South Coast project team are now in the process of securing the two artists, consulting with the community and planning logistics and thanks to you we have come away from the Shark Pitch with good momentum. We are very excited to have your support and we cannot wait to see the finished mural and garden, hopefully in March next year. Thank you again for your support in helping to bring the community’s vision of recognition to life! Sincerely, Troy Lovett On behalf of the Indigenous War Memorial Mural Project team What to know more about the project? You are invited to a pre-recorded Community Conversation session to learn more about this project and provide feedback. Once you have watched the recording please feel free to provide feedback and share stories by emailing [email protected] (these contact details will be on the final slide) note you can pause the presentation at any time. https://us02web.zoom.us//PvM9rq7q_bLL7zUOcibW0fSjj7AGzjNq- United Way Glenelg SharkPitch event enabled three organisations to share their journey in our community, encouraging an audience to dig deep and give. This event would not have occurred without the generous support of our partners AWA Alliance Bank and Powerhouse Productions
