25.01.2022 GULG and farmer army hard at it fixing the walking tracks on Porcupine Reserve

23.01.2022 Yesterday we hosted a Propagation Workshop for our Members. The season is providing a great opportunity to collect local seeds and cuttings to raise in our community garden. Horticulturalist Belinda Milgate demonstrated how to collect seeds, store them and plant out into trays. We also collected some cuttings and learnt how to strike these. It was a great morning up at Pensioners Hill which is looking magnificent at the moment thanks to the dedication of many volunteers. We walked around and looked at the many tree and shrub species that we have in the Reserve and undertook some identification.

22.01.2022 Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group Community Garden will be having a plant stall at the Autumn Markets this coming Saturday 21st March at Worsley Park from 8am. We have a great selection of plants - strawberries, herbs, succulents, geraniums, native grasses and tubestock available. All proceeds go back into the garden and for purchasing seedlings to start and plant out our winter vegetables. All plants have been grown by members in our Community Garden located in the TAFE grounds. Please drop in and say hello to some of our dedicated members. We will have information about GULG. The Community Garden is open every Monday from 9.30 - 11.30. For more information contact George Truman 0427 505040. Gunnedah Country Markets

22.01.2022 Many thanks to everyone who came and helped out with Cleanup Australia Day in Gunnedah. We managed to focus on a few areas including the Namoi River sporting fields and walking path, Boggabri Road, Porcupine Reserve, around the golf course, skate park and Wandobah Reserve. There seemed to be a decrease in rubbish especially bottles and cans which maybe as a result of the return and earn scheme. With the recent rain grass is high also so rubbish not as visible. Thank you to all the residents of Gunnedah who regularly pickup rubbish during the week. Fire and Rescue NSW Station 314 Gunnedah, Gunnedah Shire Clean Up Australia

19.01.2022 Our Community Garden is overflowing with beautiful tomatoes and finger eggplants, all organically grown. The Garden will be open this coming Monday (8th Feb) from 10am - 11am if anyone would like to pop in and pick their own. We also have plants for sale - both garden plants, herbs and native trees. The Community Garden is for the community - anyone is most welcome to come and help - all we ask is that you do some weeding, planting out of new vegetables, removal of old ones, plant propagation or just enjoy sitting in this little oasis. The Garden is open on a Monday from 9.30 - 11.30. If you can't make it at this time but would like to come and take a look - please contact George Truman on 0427 505040 and I can arrange a time. The Garden is located behind the TAFE - access through main gate then left around behind the workshop.

18.01.2022 Do you have some spare time at the moment? Here are a few things you can do for the environment from your lounge room (or bedroom, any room!). And the best thing is, one of the projects is based in Gunnedah that GULG was a part of! Remember the koala drinkers? Well, there were cameras attached and now they need volunteers to go through the photos to see what was found!

17.01.2022 Great work happening here - well done GULG

17.01.2022 This attractive pile of concrete was dumped on the road into Cushan's Reserve in the last few days. It's one of the reasons why the reserve is closed to vehicles. This individual has successfully completed his application to become a 'feral' and non-citizen.

16.01.2022 Cushan's Reserve is a sea of green again, but that includes a host of burrs and weeds. However, we sprayed most of it last week and it seems to be working. Some time over the next couple of weeks it will be slashed and hopefully OK for walking, cycling and dogs.

15.01.2022 Porcupine Reserve again today. Fixed the track from Little Porky car park down to the Wallaby Trap. Great work Ryan and Lorrie Laurie Gaunt

11.01.2022 We are all set for cleanup today in Gunnedah. Please come and register at Worsley Park from 7 am. Everyone can help and just do what you can, even 1 hour can make a difference. There are some open space areas around Gunnedah that need a bit of a clean up.

10.01.2022 Watering our new trees at Cushans Reserve... all 120 alive and good so far! We’ll give it a slash next week in time to take your family down there in the holidays. Great place to have a picnic and wet a line. Great work George Truman

09.01.2022 GULG Chair - Mark Kesby was recently nominated for the New England and North West Landcare Awards for his commitment to Landcare activities in the local area over 25 years. Mark has not only been involved with extensive Landcare works on his own farm - but has contributed significantly to the North West area through his involvement with Liverpool Plains Land Management Committee and GULG. Mark was unable to attend the Awards Ceremony however GULG members George Truman and Owen Hasler, and Local Landcare Coordinator Penny Milson attended. Unfortunately Mark did not take out the Award, however it was great to see Mark recognised for his efforts. Landcare Australia

08.01.2022 Confirmed cane toad found in Gunnedah this week! Everyone, keep your eyes peeled for these invasive creatures to make sure they don’t establish down here

07.01.2022 Duck Paradise. Mullibah Lagoon is now at 100%, and a small flow continues to trickle down to the Namoi River. What a change!

06.01.2022 Ryan and Belinda hard at work

06.01.2022 Bravo Gunnedah Shire Council! The planting on Stock Road looks great

05.01.2022 Our AGM and March General Meeting will be held Wednesday 10th March 2021 at 6pm in the Baxter Room at Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club. There are lots of exciting things happening around town at the moment in Landcare - so if you would like to be involved you are most welcome to come along to our meeting or contact our chair Mark Kesby on 0428 429244.

04.01.2022 The walking track adventure continues! Great work Team

04.01.2022 Ever wondered why willows are removed from our rivers? They hold together the banks really well, don't they? Nope! They actually exacerbate bank erosion, not to mention reduce water quality and provide less habitat for our native animals. Here is a short article on the issues of willows. One positive thing to come out of the drought has been the amount of willows that have died along the Namoi. Hopefully this will give the native vegetation a chance to get away before the willows inevitably start popping up again.

02.01.2022 5 things you may or may not know about Galahs - Once known as the Rose-breasted Cockatoo, the name ‘Galah’ was officially adopted to eliminate confusion with the Pink (or Major Mitchell’s) Cockatoo - Galahs often indulge in play, dangling upside down from powerlines or perches; flying at break-neck speed through groves of trees, weaving between the trunks like slalom skiers; and sometimes deliberately flying into swirling willie-willies to be flung out the top - Galahs are al...most always left footed: when feeding, they usually pass their food to their beak with their left foot - Galahs mate for life, and members of the pair stay together constantly, except when one is on the nest - Galahs sometimes use creches, with several broods of recently fledged young all left to perch together, with their parents returning occasionally to feed them See more

02.01.2022 The wonderful rain and cooler weather has been ideal for tree planting. Two more red gums were planted on the bank of the Namoi at Donnelly Fields on the weekend.

02.01.2022 Do you have koalas at your place? Expressions of Interest are open for landholders in the Gunnedah and Liverpool Plains shire council areas - if you are interested in enhancing koala habitat contact Penny [email protected].

02.01.2022 Had a very successful morning yesterday planting more trees and shrubs in Cushans Reserve. A bit damp and cool but great weather for young trees After several years of hard work by many volunteers, the reserve is starting to look fantastic. Go down and have a walk through for a different spring view. While the gate is locked, everyone is welcome to walk thru......and we can open the gate for anyone that needs vehicular access. Unfortunately, the reserve would be trashed quickly if we left it open.

01.01.2022 Gunnedah Community Garden relocation and expansion at the TAFE grounds is nearly complete! :) Members of GULG have been busy working out plans for the new layout and starting to get things into place, it's looking good so far and we are excited! Once we can all move around again we will be commencing our regular garden work on Tuesdays from 9.30am. We are hoping our regulars will be keen and welcome any new people who would like to join. If you would like any more information contact Mark Kesby 0428 429 244, Owen Hasler 0429 686 373 or George Truman 0427 505 040 or send us a message on Facebook.
