24.01.2022 Immigration News Other Family and Parent Visa Changes - 2 June 2014 The eight visa subclasses that will be repealed on 2 June 2014 are:... Parent (Migrant) (Class AX): - Parent (subclass 103) Aged Parent (Residence) (Class BP): - Aged Parent (subclass 804) Other Family (Migrant) (Class BO): - Remaining Relative (subclass 115) - Aged Dependent Relative (subclass 114) Carer Visa (subclass 116) Other Family (Residence) (Class BU): - Remaining Relative (subclass 835) - Aged Dependent Relative (subclass 838) Carer (subclass 836) People who lodged an application for an Other Family or Non-contributory Parent visa prior to 2 June 2014 will have their application processed as normal and in accordance with previous arrangements. Certain eligible family members may still be added to an existing application before a decision is made on their visa. Based on current planning levels, an applicant for a Non-contributory Parent visa can expect to wait around 13 years before being considered for the grant of a visa after being allocated a queue date. An applicant for an Other Family visa can expect a waiting time of between four years (Carer visa) and 16 years (Remaining Relative and Aged Dependent Relative visas). Parents will still be able to migrate to Australia using the permanent Contributory Parent visas, which remain unchanged. These visas require applicants to make a substantially higher contribution towards their future health, welfare and other costs in Australia. Application. The costs can be staggered by first applying for a temporary Contributory Parent visa and then the permanent visa. Parents and other relatives of Australians also have the option of applying for a Visitor visa to visit family in Australia. It is expected that Immigration Department will introduce further changes for flexible Visitor visa arrangements that provide for a longer period of stay of up to 12 months are available to eligible applicants.
