25.01.2022 Here's my chat with Moffee this morning - the Coffs Harbour Boat Ramp Precinct upgrade has just had another multi-million dollar State Government funding boost!

25.01.2022 EXTRA $4 MILLION FOR COFFS HARBOUR BOAT RAMP The Coffs Harbour boat ramp will be a key beneficiary of the NSW Government’s $205 million maritime stimulus to kick-start the economy and create local jobs. Today, I was joined by Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance to announce $4 million will go to upgrading our boat ramp, dredging the boat ramp basin, extending the breakwater to improve access to the ramp, and installing new pontoons and parking.... This fast-tracked upgrade of the boat ramp ties in with the broader foreshore master plan carried out by the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. Not only are we supporting NSW tourism by making these important maritime upgrades, but we are also creating 425 jobs across our regional and rural communities, to help recover from the COVID-19 crisis. Detailed planning work is well underway with concept designs developed in consultation with Coffs Harbour City Council and the local community who have championed the need to upgrade the facility. The stimulus funding will see a further $4 million added to the existing $10 million commitment by the NSW Government and will allow the boat ramp project to better align with the overall Coffs Harbour Jetty Foreshore Precinct plan. The first stage of work will involve extending the break wall by 75 metres, widening the ramp to six lanes and carrying out dredging to the basin. This additional funding will allow for the second stage of the project to be brought forward, including upgrading the car and trailer parking, realignment of the access road and entrance, and upgrading features such as fish cleaning tables. The Coffs Harbour boat ramp upgrade ties in with the broader foreshore master plan carried out by the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. The Review of Environmental Factors will be on display from 30 November to 20 December and can be accessed at the Harry Bailey Memorial Library or via https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au//coffs-harbour-boat-ramp.index. Great catching up today with Coffs Harbour Regional Boat Ramp Precinct Enhancement Committee chair John Lawler, deputy chair Geoff Parker and member Fred Aboulehaf. Andrew Constance MP

24.01.2022 Local organisations impacted by COVID-19 are encouraged to apply for funding in the next round of the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants program. 21.01.2022 HAPPY DIWALI & BANDI CHHOR DIVAS Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Also celebrated on this day is Bandi Chhor Divas. ... Sikhs remember the release from prison and return to Amritsar of the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind in 1619. The name ‘Bandi Chhor Divas’ means ‘liberation of prisoners day’. This is also celebrated on Saturday 14 November this year. According to tradition, Guru Hargobind was released from prison in Gwalior and reached Amritsar on Diwali. He would only agree to leave prison if 52 Hindu princes who were in prison with him could also go free. The Emperor Jahangir, said that those who clung to the Guru’s coat would be able to go free. This was meant to limit the number of prisoners who could be released. However, Guru Hargobind had a coat made with 52 tassels attached to it so that all of the princes could leave prison with him. The story reminds Sikhs of freedom and human rights and this is what they celebrate on Bandi Chhor Divas. Gladys Berejiklian John Barilaro

17.01.2022 STATEMENT ON CULTURAL AND CIVIC SPACE PLANNING APPROVAL I am disappointed, but not surprised, that the Development Application has been approved for the Coffs Harbour Cultural & Civic Space project. It apparently does not meet the criteria for refusal under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. I reiterate that I do not support this project and that the decision to proceed has been made by our elected councillors. ... I have often reflected on why this project in particular is so divisive. I can only conclude that there is a general dissatisfaction with the project and the way the council has managed the process to date. The community feedback to my office over the last 18 months has been an overwhelming rejection of this project. The elected councillors were infamously split 4-4 on the decision to proceed. I urge all councillors, regardless of how they have voted in the past, to reconsider whether this project should go ahead in its current form.

Both Trish and Amelia are deserving winners of their respective awards in an exceptionally challenging year. Every day they demonstrate the commitment and skills of nurses and midwives. This is particularly important as we celebrate the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife. In 2020, Trish’s courage and dedication took her from COVID-19 ground zero in China to the bushfires of the NSW South Coast. As a trauma expert, and a nurse of almost 40 years, Trish’s skills and professionalism are widely sought. She is a go-to person in times of crisis. Nursing Unit Manager for the Cancer Institute in Coffs Harbour, Amelia is a proud Gumbaynggirr woman who is passionate about the health of Aboriginal people and their equity of access to cancer services. Her aspiration for Indigenous care in the coming years and into the future is to close that gap. Her progression from a mature-age new graduate nurse to the District's first Aboriginal Nursing Unit Manager with the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (MNCCI) has seen Amelia become a role model for the provision of culturally-appropriate cancer care. 14.01.2022 SPECIAL SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE AT COWPER Today was a big day to mark the official opening of the final stretch of the Pacific Highway upgrade but as I have sai...d in an earlier post, it is important to remember the project was born out of the tragedies of the twin bus crashes late in 1989 which cost the lives of 21 people at Cowper and 35 people near Kempsey. It was only fitting that today began with a special service to pause and remember the people who lost their lives and those whose lives were greatly impacted by this tragedy the families who lost loved ones, the 22 survivors and their families and our emergency service heroes who were faced with an unimaginable scene of carnage and who we owe a great debt of gratitude. I’d like to thank former Grafton GP Dr Ray Jones, former Grafton SES Executive Officer Bryan Robins and Sergeant Dallas Leven for speaking at the event and Pastor Greg Holder, also the local Police Chaplain, for leading us in a very special prayer of remembrance. It was an emotional morning and I’d also like to thank many of my NSW Nationals colleagues who attended the service on their way through to the official event at New Italy, including the Deputy Premier John Barilaro. Also in attendance were Clarence Valley Mayor Jim Simmons and his wife, Lexie, General Manager, Ashley Lindsay and Cr Karen Toms, former SES volunteer Phil Whitby, as well as representatives from the Maclean Lions Club who do a terrific job in maintaining the memorial site.

Anyone experiencing abuse can report it to www.esafety.gov.au/report or call 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) for 24/7 support and referrals.

05.01.2022 NSW GOVERNMENT CONTRIBUTES $10 MILLION TO EXPAND COFFS HARBOUR AIRPORT ENTERPRISE PARK Coffs Harbour Airport is set for a major boost with $10 million from the NSW Government to fast track and expand the Enterprise Park, creating a multi-use aviation, industrial and business precinct that will attract new investment, boost local jobs and the local economy.... Once fully operational in the years to come, the Enterprise Park will bring in up to $268 million into the local economy each year, create around 1,750 jobs and future proof Coffs Harbour’s local economy. As one of NSW’s largest regional airports, this grant now further supports Coffs Harbour by creating a business hub to attract businesses which creates positive flow on effects for the local economy. Coffs Harbour has felt the impact of floods, bushfires and COVID-19 and this development will attract investment needed to stimulate recovery, providing jobs for people of all ages, especially local youth who are crying out for opportunities. Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight has welcomed the announcement. It’s about creating another sustainable economic asset for the community well into the future. This funding will help us realise our vision to bring new businesses, new opportunities, new families and new jobs into the region, Cr Knight said.
