20.01.2022 A major cause of death and disease in babies is the failure of their developing immune systems to block life-threatening infections. 20.01.2022 Professor Rob Knight, UC San Diego director of the Center for Microbiome Innovation and co-founder of the American Gut Project, contemplates a small piece of the largest astronomical image ever made (46,000 megapixels of our Milky Way) on the 64 megapixel wall in Calit2's Qualcomm Institute. An astonishing comparison is that for each of the ~16 million stars in the total image, our human gut microbiome contains nearly 3 million microbe cells, for a total of ~40 trillion microbe cells (see www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4991899/). Our inner ecological galaxy is vastly more complex than the stellar galaxy in which our solar system resides...

10.01.2022 WHY HAS NUTRITION BECOME SO COMPLICATED? I really like this article, as it supports what I've thought about the macronutrient war that's been going on for years in the nutrition field --- essentially, it's not about the tug-of-war of protein/carbohydrates/fats, it's about sticking to healthy eating and enabling a nourishing relationship with food and body. Regardless of low-carb or low-fat, we helped them change their relationship to food, Gardner said. They didn’t eat in the car, they didn’t eat in the library, they didn’t eat while they were walking. They went to the farmers market more, they cooked more meals with their family.

07.01.2022 Thanks American Gut. This is a very well written article about probiotics; it does a great job of emphasizing the lack of rigorous study in most cases and encouraging individuals to ask the right questions before choosing to take a probiotic.
