24.01.2022 Working hard to help the cord blood foundation, significant advances are made with cancers by cord blood and stem cells research.
24.01.2022 Lions work hard for the community - Guyra Lions Club held their 48th annual changeover dinner on Saturday night at the Bowling Club. As the club approaches its ...half century it is on the lookout for new members to carry on the work started in the community all those years ago. In his changeover report, outgoing President Peter King thanked the Guyra Lions for their support. In his final act as President Mr King handed over donations to a number of groups in the community. Local organisations supported this year were the Ben Lomond Hall Trust, Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Can Assist, New England Wig Library, Volunteer Rescue Association, Sarah Brazier and all local schools. Guyra Lions have also supported activities for youth and seniors within the community as well as national projects including the Cord Blood, Save Sight and Prostate Cancer research. In total they have distributed more than $7000 over the last 12 months. Incoming President Jim Betts reinforced the need for new members to carry on the work of the Lions Club in Guyra. It has been a few years since we welcomed new members and I would encourage men or women who want to find out more to talk to one of our members if they are interested, Mr Betts said. Being a Lion is about fellowship and the privilege of serving the community. We have dinner meetings on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month anyone is welcome to come and see what we do. See more

20.01.2022 On 1 December this year the NSW Governments landmark Container Deposit Scheme will start. The scheme will deliver a 10-cent refund to anyone who returns an eli...gible used drink container to approved collection points. Drink container litter is a blight on our community parks, roadsides and waterways. Every year in NSW, around 160 million drink containers are tossed into our environment, making up about 49 per cent of all litter volume. The scheme, the states biggest-ever litter reduction initiative, will give everyone an incentive to clean up. Collecting and depositing drink containers will be easy, with a network of approved collection points across the state. Any person or group can also set up an informal collection point. For more information on the types of containers that can be returned and how the scheme will work, visit: http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/waste/cds-intro.htm

12.01.2022 The Trek4Kidz car rally stopped off in Guyra on Monday with the Guyra Lions Club serving up lunch for the hungry drivers and their passengers. Trek4Kidz is an... annual week-long event travelling through regional NSW and Queensland, while raising much needed funds for Starlight Childrens Foundation. Twenty-one cars left Port Macquarie on Sunday to travel 2600 kilometres on this years trek. After an overnight stay at Tamworth they made their way to a lunch time stop at Guyra. Local Lions Jim Betts, Geoff Reeves and Bill Betts had cooked up a few snags on the BBQ for the cars who stopped at Lions Park. The trek then headed on to Tenterfield and will finish the journey in Goulburn on August 25. The trek raises funds for Starlight, who aim to brightens the lives of seriously ill children and their families, through hospital services such as Captain Starlight and the Starlight Express Room. The Trek has been running over 20 years and this years event expects to add $180,000 to the total amount raised, which has just tipped over $2million. Trekker Chris Henwood said that all money raised goes straight to the kids. This is only my first year but they tell me it is a bit addictive, some of the trekkers have been on every event, Chris said. Its all about helping the kids, its a great cause and we appreciate the help we get from Lions along the way. See more
