25.01.2022 Chocolate - the good, the bad and the severe... Easter egg hunts are so much fun for the kids, but they can also mean a trip to emergency for your pets! Rememb...er to keep inquisitive pets in a safe space whilst your two legged family members are out searching for their Easter eggs! (And count what you hide - that way you can be sure the right family members find them and our pets are not left with any surprises!) What to do if your pet eats chocolate: Keep the packaging - it will help identify the type and amount of chocolate that was ingested Ring your vet - they will advise you on the next steps Sign of chocolate toxicity include: * Vomiting * Diarrhoea * Hyperactivity * Tremors * Seizures * Racing heart rhythm progressing to abnormal rhythms * Death in severe cases Our dedicated team of Veterinarians and Nurses are available all day and night, from Thursday evening all the way through to Tuesday morning. We are here when you need us the most 9639 7744

24.01.2022 Are you prepared for the heat wave this weekend? Now is the time to start thinking ahead - -Do you have enough shade in your back yard? -Do you have spare wa...ter bowls? -Can you bring your pets inside? -Are you going to be home? If not, how will you prepare you pets to survive the heat? Some handy things to do include: Freeze water bottles and icecream containers with water For rabbits and guinea pigs, frozen oranges and carrots make a great refreshing treat -Wet towels to lay on No exercising you dogs - not in the morning or late afternoon - the ground becomes very hot and their coping mechanisms are reduced in consecutive heat days If you are at all worried - give your veterinarian a call! 9639 7744

21.01.2022 Great news - found safe. Our dogs are home. Stella arrived at our back door late last night on her own. We have found Maggie this morning way down the back... of our neighbours place. Maggie is too old and not strong enough to climb the rocks/cliff back to the top. Both seem to be ok but will be off for a check at the vet in a few days to ensure there are no tick lava/pupae that may develop. They are now securely tied up until we can do a triple check of the fences over the weekend as they are definitely yard dogs with no street sense about them whatsoever. Thank you to everyone for their share and their concerns. It was really appreciated. Have a great Easter weekend everyone. These 2 labs have dug their way out of our backyard on Whitehall Road, KENTHURST this morning between 7:30am and 9:30am. They are chipped and their collars have their names and phone numbers on them. Golden lab: Maggie Black lab: Stella If found, please call one of the numbers on their collars or Ryan: 0487300641

19.01.2022 We have a new dog trainer to welcome into the Adore The Paw family ! Welcome Ellen , she will soon be running Adolescent dog training courses , and Puppy Pre-Sc...hool ! Ellen is passionate about both ends of the leash - dogs and people! She has welcomed dogs of all shapes and sizes into her home for training and holiday care. This includes raising an English Springer Spaniel puppy, Jess, who is now employed in professional conservation work as a detector (sniffer) dog. She holds a Cert IV in Companion Animal Services as well as certifications in dog training, behaviour and puppy class instruction. She has recently begun a new role assessing and rehabilitating dogs at RSPCA NSW where she will bring her skills as a trainer to dogs in need of new homes. She loves teaching and helping create happy humans and happy dogs. She also enjoys writing and sharing dog tales as Chief Editor of the Hills Howler, the monthly magazine of Hills Dog Club, where she has taught obedience for 4 years. As you can see, she is always ready to have fun with dogs and we are convinced she has at least two dog treats and one poop bag in the pockets of all of her clothes!

17.01.2022 Temperatures are set to soar in many parts of Australia over the next week, which means that our wildlife are at risk of heat stress. You can help by leaving so...me water out for them. It's best to use shallow dishes, placed in a shady area away from pets & safe from predators. If you use a large container, be sure to add in a few sticks or rocks so that any small insects or lizards can climb out if they fall in. If you see an animal in trouble, visit this website to find a wildlife carer near you - https://www.fauna.org.au/ or call the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625)

11.01.2022 ** HOT CROSS BUNS DEADLY TO PETS French Bulldog brothers Frankie and Louis recently caused their human family some pre-Easter chaos when they decided to exchang...e their morning kibble for a stash of juicy green grapes! Grapes and grape products, including sultanas, raisins, currants, and our beloved HOT CROSS BUNS, are extremely poisoning to dogs; toxicity can cause severe kidney failure. No amount of grapes or grape containing products are considered safe for dogs. Vomiting and diarrhea are the initial signs of grape toxicity; these symptoms usually begin about 6-12 hours after ingestion; this is then followed by general lack of energy, weakness, dehydration, thirst, and failure to produce an adequate amount of urine. Fatal kidney dysfunction can develop in 1-3 days. If vomiting is induced very quickly after ingestion, as it was for these lucky pups, this can help to reduce the absorption and limit the severity of the symptoms. Frankie and Louis are lucky that their family acted so quickly, and it is looking like the gorgeous boys will make a full recovery. Grape, or in our current season, Hot Cross Bun poisoning should be treated as an emergency, so regardless of symptoms being visible or not, please always seek emergency veterinary treatment. At SASH, we are here for you 24/7 across our North Ryde and Tuggerah hospitals.

08.01.2022 Meet the team ! So excited to have a trio of trainers now , it’s especially exciting to see the business growing and loving welcoming so many families to the A...TP community ! Who are we ? We have three dog trainers on the team , who are all CERTIFIED trainers who are training using positive reinforcement techniques . It is very important to know we are certified because sadly the dog training industry is not regulated and anyone can run puppy and dog training courses without qualifications, scarier yet people can call themselves specialists/ behaviourists without the adequate expertise behind their titles . There are of course qualified professionals out there everywhere but not all have training behind their names. We can assure you our staff do! Casey : is the business owner of Adore The Paw and is a certified dog trainer , fear free groomer and senior veterinary nurse . She has a special interest in puppy development and behaviour modification in fearful/anxious pets , as well as pet owner education about all things health for pets. Christine : is a dog and puppy trainer for Adore The Paw and is a certified dog trainer , with experience in pet dog and therapy dog training, as well as puppy raising for the Guide Dog. Christine is running our Winston Hills Vet Puppy Preschool courses, and offers private in home training and is soon to be running Adolescent dog training classes for us in early March. Ellen : is a dog and puppy trainer for Adore The Paw AND an RSPCA behaviour assessor And trainer . She has background in puppy raising , adolescent and obedience training, pet sitting and dog walking . Ellen will also be starting adolescent dog training courses for us in March and soon to Be a puppy school instructor too ! Thanks for all of our clients and veterinary clinic partners support and referrals , we wouldn’t be growing our team without you
