19.01.2022 Malua Bowls on, despite the loss of the clubhouse! "This is my family," says the Vice President of the Malua Bay Bowling Club Margaret Butcher (pictured). Malua Bay was hit hard by the New Years Eve bushfire. Many people lost their homes and an important community hub, the Malua Bay bowling club also burned down.... The clubs ladies president, Robin Butcher, says the ladies were back on the green a week after the fires. "Its what we do. This clubs part of the community and to a lot of people its their life so weve got to try to get on with it," she says. "Its still very competitive, all you need is a bowling green and a set of bowls. It doesnt matter whether you have a club house or not."

18.01.2022 Been a while thought a Friday funny would be in order. A lawn bowler was involved in a terrible car crash and was rushed to hospital. Just before he was put under, the surgeon popped in to see him and says, "I have some good news and some bad news". "The bad news is that I have to remove your right arm!" "Oh God no!" cries the man "My bowling is over! Please Doc, whats the good news?"... Doc "The good news is, I have another one to replace it with, but its a womans arm. Ill need your permission before I go ahead with the transplant." "Go for it doc" says the man. "As long as I can play bowls again." The operation went well and a year later the man was out on the local bowls green when he bumped into the surgeon. "Gday mate, hows the new arm?" asks the surgeon. "Just great," says the man. "Im playing the best bowls of my life. My new arm has a much finer touch and my draw bowls have really improved." "Thats great," said the surgeon. "Not only that," continued the bowler, "My handwriting has improved, Ive learned how to sew my own clothes and Ive even taken up painting landscapes in water colours." "Unbelievable!" said the surgeon, "Im so glad to hear the transplant was such a great success. Are you having any side effects?" "Well, just one problem," said the bowler "Every time I get aroused, I also get a headache." See more

11.01.2022 Bowls England is saddened to learn of the passing of the man regarded by many as the greatest lawn bowler of all time, David J. Bryant CBE, at the age of 88. Da...vid won five Commonwealth Games gold medals, eleven World Outdoor Bowls Championship medals and nine titles at the World Indoor Championships during an illustrious career. He was widely recognisable as the face of bowls and was renowned for using a tobacco pipe whilst playing. He was awarded the MBE and then CBE for services to lawn bowls. David Tucker, Bowls England Board Chair, said: David was an icon for many decades, whose name was synonymous with our sport. He was well-respected by all who knew him. I was fortunate to compete against David on the green on many occasions, often coming on the wrong end of the scoreline, but a match against him was always a pleasure and includes many memories that I will never forget. My thoughts are with Davids family and friends at this time. Read the full obituary here: https://www.bowlsengland.com/obituary-david-j-bryant-cbe-s/

One of the most exciting games I have had the pleasure of watching, two of our younger members Peter Bryant & Mitch White battled it out, tit for tat for 40 ends so we could get a result, even though the score line of 31 to 25 doesnt indicate just how close the game was. Congratulations Mitch no longer a Minor you are now a Major.

03.01.2022 GYMEA BY LACHLAN WILLIAMS Bowls Australia’s (BA) social bowls program Jack Attack continues to grow in popularity, with more and more clubs getting involved in 2020.... The program has proved a popular one as clubs look to bounce back from a COVID-19 interrupted 2020 and introduce new participants to the green. One club that fully embraced the Jack Attack opportunity was Gymea Bowling Club, south of Sydney, hosting the program last month. The club was able to bring in 14 registered teams of nearly 55 players in total, all of whom were non-registered bowlers and many had never bowled before. Recruiting from local ladies & men’s soccer teams, local businesses and family friends, Jack Attack opened an array of opportunities for the club looking to try something new. The club committee could see the need to try and attract new members and formed a membership committee who I met with earlier in the year. I presented Jack Attack, spoke of my own experiences and they were keen to get on board, BA Regional Bowls Manager for Greater Sydney, NSW Brett Hughes said. The atmosphere was electrifying with music playing in the background, teams sledging each other and some teams producing their own team shirts. From the program at Gymea, four participants have already signed up as full bowling members, while another six are continuing with coaching session on track to join the club. With many other clubs around Sydney as well as around the country getting involved with Jack Attack, Hughes said it’s a great chance for club’s to branch out. It’s so much fun and a great chance to bring new people to your club and enjoy our great game, he said.
01.01.2022 Unfortunately we have had to cancel the tournament on the 14th of September due to the new recommendations from Bowls NSW, although they were only recommendations many factors came into play and made the tournament unviable to proceed with the reduced numbers. On behalf of the Gymea Mens Bowling Club I wish to thank you and your club for supporting the event stay safe and we hope to catch up hopefully in the not so distant future. Kind Regards Terry Bouggas Vice President
01.01.2022 Gymea Senior Pairs 2020 Champions Mick Cummins (skip) & Marcus Worthington Who defeated the runners up Michael Svajko (skip) & Jack Parker in very gusty conditions ... Congratulations to both teams. See more
01.01.2022 Tuesday 25th August Gymea Womens Bowling Club held a Mini Charity Day. We invited members of the Mens Club to join us. We planned it around COVID safe restrictions. Seven mixed teams played 21 ends of turnaround triples on alternate rinks on two greens. There were some novelty ends for a bit of fun. Bowlers were also allowed to call back one bowl and replay it as long as it hadnt affected the head. This cost the bowler $1. Many took this option. Our ladies donated prepackaged cakes and biscuits, raffle prizes and craft items. There were no major prizes but we had our usual trivia quiz and gave out some minor prizes. Everyone had a very enjoyable day and we raised $2,600 for The Kids Cancer Centre.
