21.01.2022 Final day tomorrow!

20.01.2022 This week marks NAIDOC Week 2020. The Gympie Regional Gallery embraces the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. 'Wonamutta Burra', an exhibition currently on view, showcases cultural knowledge of country through art. 'Jaikoawonamuttasaurus' (pictured here) is just one of artworks as part of the exhibition and is dedicated to the artists Mother-In-Law, wife and children.... "My Mother-In-Law had her wages withheld for the work she had done, while trying to feed 10 children (Stolen Wages). My Mother-In-Law’s Mother was forcibly removed from K’gari (Fraser Island) 100 years ago this year and taken to Barambah Reservation (Stolen Land). My Mother-In-Law’s Grandmother and her 10 children worked under slavery in the sugarcane plantations of Childers. My Mother-In-Law’s first 4 children (including my wife) remember distinctly the events leading up to their removal Represented by the first 4 sticks along with their six younger siblings Represented by the first 6 sticks from their parents (Stolen Generation). My Mother-In-Law’s last 4 children to a second marriage, knew little of the first family (Assimilation). Through the Native Title process their rights have been ignored (Human Rights). They have all lived and still live, (including my children) with the trauma, anger and sadness of what has been perpetuated on their family (Denial of Harmony and Peace). Jai Koa is my Mother-In-Law’s great grandson. What will the future hold for him? Black Lives Matter." 'Jaikoawonamuttasaurus', 2020, David Barrowcliffe, wood, stone and orchres.

In 2021 the Gympie Regional Gallery will host an exhibition of Kerrie's works and we are seeking out those in the community who may have some of her artworks in their private collection. ... If this is you, please phone or direct message the Gallery. Thank you for your assistance! Image Credit: 'Inskip Point', 2003, Kerrie Atkins, acrylic on canvas.
