25.01.2022 Here is a lovely piece from my friend Catherine Bernier about her new rig and some fun she had at Eloy ;-) Not saying you should race out and buy one but if you are thinking aboiut a rig, it is one certainly worth considering.
24.01.2022 Op Reg 6.1.11(e) Hi. Asking for an expression of interest for a trial zoom session to go through at least the first part of my scary picture presentation as we all prepare for the introduction of APF Op Reg 6.1.11(e) While supporting the idea, my concern is that most people don't know what it is they are looking at..... Possibly next Monday at 10am for all those housebound and bored :-)
23.01.2022 Here you go. Have a chuckle at this. Then we can later talk about a potential crack down on making sure we aren't overloading our reserves as we endweavour to continually downsize
20.01.2022 As drop zones open up it is time to get your gear ready. If you haven't seen the On Hold session Brett Newman did on this, now would be a great time to do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0-I4-glU4A
20.01.2022 Hopefully we will all be back in the air soon. While we think about what we are going to do, here is a great segment from Catherine Bernier of Skydive Vibes fame. And after you have refreshed your thoughts on stalling canopies, make sure you have a chat to Putzy, Robert McMillan or Jules McConnel, or a canopy coach before doing anything on your canopy.
20.01.2022 Just in casse you are curious. Thanks to the artist who created it.
17.01.2022 Have had a few people ask about RSLs and MARDs. Here is my favourite French Canadian Catherine Bernier. Her posts are worth subscribing to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri-WgL6GfqM
16.01.2022 Not rigging as such but an important read
16.01.2022 Okay this isn't rigging and it is freeflying, BUT iit is also a must watch..... :-)
14.01.2022 While I am away learning stuff and polishing skills, instead of waiting for me to get back, and you needan urgent reserve repack or inspection, Trav has offered to help out. In the meantime, @trav_stev will be around for all assembly, inspections, packing and general air-worthiness questions. See you in November
14.01.2022 NEW VIDEO! Beau Riebe from Performance Designs is sharing some tips for a safe canopy progression. What to consider before downsizing and best practices. Enjoy here: http://bit.ly/2HrnYjs #performancedesigns #pdswag
12.01.2022 While we are waiting to get back in the air we have time to learn how to polish our techniques and practices. Here is a great video from PD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVAoiLl2B6M
11.01.2022 Been playing around with producing video stuff. Here is a short clip on how to untangle canopies. It will be different to what you are used to....... :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TM2ywX9Q5QY&t=258s
11.01.2022 Anyone looking for some great information on jumping in general, here is a link to where the APF is storing all their On Hold E-Learning stuff. Fantastic resource. https://www.apf.com.au/apf-zone/skydiving-links/e-learning
08.01.2022 Packer B and Packer A applicants. A number of people have been asking me about getting the Packer B and Packer A ratings. After lots of discussions about the level of responsibility these ratings convey I have concluded that my future standard response to applicants is to contact me after you have read at least Poynter’s Manual Volume 2 and the FAA Riggers Manual, and the APF Service Bulletins. To me, it is crucial that an individual understand how equipment works and also ho...w our current equipment has evolved. And the individual needs to know what the safety concerns are that have been revealed over the years since original manufacture. For those who are now saying that they can’t find copies of the manuals, Koppel at Meeloft has copies of the Poynters Manual and you can download the FAA manual from the web. The Service Bulletins, of course, can be downloaded from either the various manufactures, or the APF web site.
08.01.2022 The lead has arrived. $10 for 1kg pouches
07.01.2022 What to do in isolation? How about Skydive Radio? And in the latest episode (ep 249) I do an interview on the value of visualisation at about 1hr 45 min, and there is some great post interview discussion. Or if you are bored you could binge listen especially the big names in the first 100 episodes or my contibutions from around Ep 195 onwards. All great listening either way... See you in the sky on the other side;-)... http://skydiveradio.com/
07.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL SWOOPERS Is your exit weight exceeding the maximum loading of your reserve canopy's maximum loading? In recent months I have noticed that this has become a real issue. As canopies get smaller, often the maximum loading also shrinks, especially if the lower surface doesn't have lateral reinforcing. ... So, check your reserve. If need be go to the manufacture's web site and check.
06.01.2022 A big thanks to everyone who has sent get well messages. They are greatly appreciated. I am still doing some work so give me a call or sent a message if you want something done.... I may be able to either do the job or get it done.
06.01.2022 As we wander through this blur called 2020 and jump when we can, here is a thought from Dan BC via Sonic. .. Be safe
06.01.2022 People keep asking about how to look after their canopies. Here is something from the manufacturer. http://perftex.com//Extending%20the%20Life%20of%20Your%20C
01.01.2022 The APF "On Hold" sessions have been great. Here is a portion of one with Brett Newman on one of my favourite pet subjects, caring for and cocking pilot chutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCcn6008qNQ
