17.01.2022 H2o on the go went up to Mae Lai Villiage and visited the village and school yesterday, 3 hours each way right up into the mountains South West of Chiang Mia, Thailand. The village and the school have no secure source of drinking water after all theirs was contaminated by a lignite mine. They collect rain water when they can for drinking and cooking and use the contaminated water for bathing, washing cleaning and brushing their teeth. ... The contaminated water is full of heavy metals, undesirable minerals and has a PH of less than 3 so causes terrible skin irritations and burning, and often the kids and villagers are left with no other choice except to drink this water, as rain water is not always available, so due to lack of rain and primitive collection methods through out the village. Despite the poverty, and lack of water the kids were all gorgeous, full of smiles and so happy, and somehow all manage to get to school with perfect uniforms every day. We were made to feel like royalty all day, such incredible lovely people, the village women prepared a banquet in our honor, we had a tour of the school and attended the assembly. They told us that in Thailand they believe that people who can provide clean water are millionaires, so we are millionaires. The great news is if we can raise the funds we can help this village have plenty of running clean water for all there needs all year long. excited more than every to get started.

11.01.2022 Putting our new watermaker to the test at Lake Victoria in QLD, the lake is fresh water, but certainly not clear water and not something I would really want dri...nk. We can use our watermaker while it is in the Landy or we can carry it to the water, either way is fine and in this instance we carried it to the waters edge. We carry 430 litres of water use about 100 litres of water a day, I know it is a lot but as we always say "this is home not camping" so sort of really need a watermaker when parked at a lake, like this one, for a week or so. Worked just as it should, totally dissolved solids (TDS) of the lake water was 150 ppm the product water from the system was .01 ppm (seen notes below) so certainly doing its job, and we can safely drink the nice clean water it produces knowing there are no bacteria, viruses, polyps or cysts that will make us sick. On a side note regarding the very low TDS reading, the World Health Organisation states that for good health and a TDS level of 400 ppm is optimal. Their studies were done by comparing the health of villages with soft and hard water. .01 ppm is pretty much demineralize water or what we refer to as demon water, you will get this sometimes when using these systems in fresh water, it is certainly not bad to drink in the short term but there does seem to be evidence (WHO report) that drinking this water for more than a short while will have a negative effect to health, so we remineralise the water by adding a pinch of bicarbonate soda and a pinch of magnesium chloride (about 1/8 teaspoon of each to 2 litres of water), there is some science behind this combination I will not go into here, but this brings it back up to about 300 to 400 ppm which is as they say optimal . This is a personal thing though and not a recommendation, just thought worth a mention.
