25.01.2022 Today for #WorldHumanitarianDay we want to say thank you to our aid workers, our staff, and our volunteers for all their support and hard work! They are the #RealLifeHeroes who have committed their time and lives to helping others. Together we can build a better world for everyone. . Here is a quote from one of our Bushfire Recovery volunteers :"We helped an elderly couple that live a sustainable life in the Southern Highlands. Their whole farm was destroyed by the Bushfire...s and essentially their way of life was destroyed too. Non the less they couldnt stop smiling/cracking jokes and showed real courage in the face of such a loss. Very inspiring. I personally worked on rebuilding part of the farm that was lost to the fire, and was very satisfied to contribute in a way that sees them a little closer to returning to normal." - Stuart . #worldhumanitarianday #habitataustralia #volunteer #bushfirerecovery #giveback #heartofhabitat #unitednations #aidworkers #notforprofit #nonprofit #habitatforhumanity See more
25.01.2022 A healthy home is a vaccine that provides both immunity and resilience.- Jonathan Reckford. Until a vaccine is created the best way to protect ousrevles accoridng to experts is through stayinng at home, social distancing, wahsing our hands, and wearing a mask. These are all things the world's most vulnerable families simply can't not do. The COVID crisis is not going to end for anyone, until it ends for everyone. We Habitat for Humanity Australia pledge to stand in solidarity with all our neighbours to #EndCovidForAll !

24.01.2022 There are 6 fundamental needs that humans require to live: air, shelter, water, food and sleep. At Habitat we support families to access shelter and water because we know housing is the foundation for families accessing quality sleep, good mental health, educations, water, and sanitation. A home is the key to a better life for our partner families.

20.01.2022 "Habitat for Humanity were the only help we had and for that I am so very grateful. Everyone was prepared to get their hands into whatever it was that needed to be done and with a smile and generous spirit. Thank you so much to all that assisted." Thanks to all the volunteers who have donated their time to our Bushfire Recovery program in South Australia to help families recover and clear their properties so they can begin to build back their homes.
19.01.2022 We do much more than just build houses. We partner with low-income families in need of adequate housing. We build homes together with partner families. We build communities. We build livelihoods. #ThroughShelterWeEmpower

18.01.2022 Meet Sabita, before she partnered with Habitat she and her family lost their home to the 7.9 earthquake back in 2015 in Nepal. She was one of the 800,000 families in Nepal who were made homeless. Thanks to donors and volunteers Habitat was able to partner with Sabita and her family to build a new, decent, safe, earthquake resistant home. Sabita is married now and has just had her first baby. Her father Arjun described what their new home means to the family: "We definitely need safety. Disasters could happen again and cause harm. If we have a safe house nothing bad can happen."
18.01.2022 We only have four houses left to build on our affordable housing development in Victoria, thanks to the incredible work of our volunteers. 17.01.2022 Take a moment to hear Judith share her story about how her life has been forever changed by the 2019 Bushfires. We are grateful our volunteers were able to support Judith and Paul as they build back their lives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuhY-cKDUZA
16.01.2022 Affordable homeownership helps create the conditions that free families from instability, stress and fear and encourages self-reliance and confidence. Studies show that strong and stable households are foundational to child development and growth. When a home fosters instead of hinders health and safety, families can flourish. Owning an affordable home also allows homeowners to lift up their entire family by saving for their futures and investing in educational opportunities bolstering job opportunities and long-term career growth.
16.01.2022 Habitats work is needed now more than ever. And now more than ever, we need you. We cant build homes, communities and hope without your help! Please donate today here: https://www.habitat.org.au/thehometogetherfund/
16.01.2022 A few weeks ago some of our team had the chance to get out of the office or home and out to Bushfire Recovery Day. Tom our Program Manager shared on behalf of our partner family : "Elizabeth explained that it was the first time since the fires that she felt valued and recognised. Although we completed a enormous amount of work, that alone made the day special." It was an amazing day because of: 1. Fantastic team building experience. 2. A nice opportunity to see each other as ...we are all still working remotely. 3. We were able to give back to our Aussie partner family and community. We encourage any company or teams looking for a COVID safe team building experience an giving back to the community. #HeartofHabitat #BuildBack #BushfireRecovery

07.01.2022 Meet Sawati. She battles healthy problems every day and her indadeqaute housing increases her risk of getting worse. Sawati shares: "Our walls are made of bamboo which are unable to prevent wind entering the house. There is no roof as well, and the house leaks when it rains. My daughter Hani often fell ill during the rainy season. Very often. And we suffer from skin irritation when the floods come. Inadequate housing increases the daily health risks to millions of people like... Sawati, who live a hand-to-mouth existence and makes them particularly vulnerable to catastrophic events like Coronavirus. Poor health also means the parents often cannot work to provide food for their families. Children cannot go to school. And so the cycle of poverty continues and become impossible to break. Supporters like you can make such a difference to peoples lives. Help us work with them, to get a decent home. A decent life. See more

01.01.2022 In NSW, our Brush With Kindness program has assisted in the renovations of crisis accommodation. Weve worked in partnership with a service that provides overnight and short-term accommodation for vulnerable and at-risk males over 18 in the inner city. The service provides a place of safety where men can start to address their needs. Everyone deserves a decent place to call home and this work is so important in ensuring these people have a safe place to seek refuge. Our housing system is broken and we need to be working together to fix this. Join the conversation and share this post to help us provide more crisis accommodation and #BuildSocialHousing in Australia #HW2020
01.01.2022 Russell, has been one of the go-to volunteers for anything that requires a bit more than just enthusiasm and energy during Habitat NSWs bushfire recovery assistance programme. When you live in the inner city in Sydney you feel like youve hardly been touched by disasters such as these bushfires. I like the variety of the bushfire programme. And being outdoors is a real advantage, particularly during COVID. Its great just going to different places and meeting different people and being able to give practical help to people who really need it."
