11.01.2022 This is something every Aussie can do to help starving wildlife. Fruit Kebabs are great! Let’s get thousands of them out there. Right now millions of animals across Australia are starving due to Bushfires and drought. Fruit Kebabs will help them big time and it’s something you and the kids can do together. Go for it and please Share this post with your friends.

10.01.2022 Just a word about Bushfires. And what very few people seem to be talking about. Weeds. A Before/After pic of Lantana I removed a few months ago. The Lantana in the background is still there. My job extended to removing the Lantana in the foreground only (and there was mountains of it) - this pic shows about 5% of what I removed. I have plenty of pics of other parts of the site showing the Lantana infestation on this site. It’s such a common occurrence to see heavy weed inf...Continue reading

10.01.2022 Almost 15 years ago I teamed up with developers Mirvac to build a residential community and surround it with a wildlife sanctuary at Gainsborough Greens. Back then there were no houses. Just an old golf course built by the Japanese in the 80’s, some bush and a whole heap of degraded pastures. No houses and no wildlife sanctuary either. As the houses rolled out Mirvac followed my advice to erect the fences before the builders erected the houses. By doing this we had full cont...rol of the fence styles to make sure they were all fauna friendly. Since then more than 2000 homes have been built and every one of them are fully fenced. I don’t know how many kilometres of fencing has been installed by Mirvac out there - but it’d be a lot. The entire community is surrounded by fauna fencing... In the meantime we set about work to create the wildlife sanctuary. The golf course was redesigned and revegetated with fauna friendly food species, bushland was preserved and rehabilitated, new wetlands created, more than a million natives were planted in new wildlife corridors and ‘the big job’ got done too. All up, a fully fenced wildlife sanctuary of almost 300 hectares was created. There were no guarantees. All this effort was done in the hope of build it and they will come. Sure enough, the place is now teeming with wildlife. The safe, fenced sanctuary that was created partnered with tonnes (literally) of food plantings has seen an explosion of wildlife occur. This photo was taken by a Gainsborough Greens resident just recently. For me it says everything. A koala quite happily going about its business safely inside the fully fenced wildlife sanctuary Mirvac created. We built it. And they came.... You bloody ripper!

08.01.2022 Hi friends, please forgive my lack of posts these past 12 months. I may have been slack with posts here but this past year has seen my foot planted flat to the floor on enviro restoration jobs around place. I really just created this page to share some of the good environment stuff that I and my colleagues get up to. 18 months ago there was so much doom and gloom being pushed on us. And nothing being said about the work that I and thousands of my colleagues (then add tens of... thousands of volunteers on top too) are doing each week out there for the natural environment. And while I’ve failed miserably these past 12 months on posting here, truth is I’ve had my head down and backside up working the whole time. On a few of these jobs we’ve done some filming along the way and in the weeks ahead I’ll post some of the interesting and positive stuff we’ve been getting done. To kick start things, here’s a video done by the Stories Told crew about a couple of jobs I’ve done. One is a real game changer on how Endangered Ecosystems can be quickly built from scratch. It’s one of the Holy Grails that we’ve all been searching for. Getting entire natural ecosystems built and functioning very quickly at super low cost. Check it out. Anyway, again my apologies for slackness and I hope you like the video. On a personal note, I know a good number of you will have been through some very challenging times these past 12 months, please accept my sincere best wishes. All strength to your arm and here’s hoping for a better 12 months ahead. Cheers Matt https://www.facebook.com/StoriesToldAu/videos/224280259429047/?vh=e&extid=0&d=n

04.01.2022 Had a crack at getting a Seagrass meadow going ten years ago. Hadn’t done one before so I read up about how others did it in the past. Their successes and their errors too. The site was previously badly erosion prone and the project was to stabilise the foreshore and reinstate sand once done. The site is within an estuary and the hope was that we’d be able to get a seagrass meadow established there too. Previously, the site was constantly eroding. The banks were regularly col...Continue reading
