18.01.2022 ArchiTeam and the University of Melbourne have released their crowdfunded Research for Architects in Small Practice (RAsP) report. The study is the first of its kind to look specifically at the value that architects bring to house renovations in Australia. Interestingly, the research found that using an architect for your renovation leads to better resale values and higher capital gains in the long run. The timber floors are polished, the steel balustrades are painted and the vertical timber batten screens are installed. The feature staircase journeys up through the house to the roof top deck with spectacular views over the city. The detailing expressed in the design by the Project Architect Jon Pye has been thoughtfully brought to life by Tony Dwyer and his team at Dwyer Constructions. https://www.habitechsystems.com.au//climbing-up-the-urban-

06.01.2022 Tone Wheeler, President of the Australian Architecture Association and long-running champion of sustainable architecture, recently published an article in Architecture & Design, titled On the Third Wave of Sustainability. He talks about why passive solar house design hasn’t been widely adopted across Australia and why the government hasn’t regulated for them. Delving into the history of sustainable architecture through three particular waves, he summarises that in his opinion..., for sustainability to succeed it needs to tell a story about improvements in the quality of life the improved indoor environmental quality (IEQ) that comes from passive solar is better for the occupants, but moreover it is better for the environment. Sadly, that appeal to ‘lifestyle’ is the only way that green design will succeed in today’s personally selfish and politically timid and inept environment. www.architectureanddesign.com.au//tone-on-tuesday-on-the-t

The balconies set on each end of this open kitchen, dining and living room allow both private and more open deck engaged with the street below with sun at both ends of the day. The private rooms on street level provide two bedrooms and a second living room opening on to a small court retained below the upper deck, with a valuable work shed for their city bikes, used every day from this inner city sanctuary. https://www.habitechsystems.com.au//our-inner-city-sanctua
