25.01.2022 Sign of the times at Umina Park. Umina Park workers love their residents and feel privileged to care for them, but they’re worried that resident care will be compromised if these issues aren’t fixed. You can show your support by calling OneCare management on (03) 6220 1200 or emailing the CEO, Peter Williams, at [email protected] and let them know you support the workers’ fight for a better workplace for staff and residents. ... They may be faceless as far as OneCare are concerned, but Umina Park workers will not remain voiceless. #facelessnotvoiceless

24.01.2022 Aged care workers like Andrew are telling the Government having higher levels of registered nurses and care workers, in the right skills mix, will ensure provide safe, effective care to residents. SIGN THE PETITION https://www.megaphone.org.au//we-demand-action-for-aged-ca

23.01.2022 There's going to be a long road ahead as we recover from COVID-19. We've got the chance to make some big changes and get a lot of things right. It’s no secret that the Tasmanian health system was struggling even before the pandemic. But now we have the opportunity to make our health system stronger and to ensure all Tasmanians have access to world class healthcare.

22.01.2022 *Big issues at Burnie's large Umina Park aged care facility* As in many aged care sites, members at OneCare Umina Park have been under the pump for some time due to increased workload, with short staffing affecting everyone from cleaners and catering to carers and nurses - no one's exempt. As the biggest residential aged care facility in Tasmania this is short-staffing on steroids, so HACSU members met and decided enough is enough, and say it's time for real change.... We're standing with them, so keep an eye out around Burnie as we take up the fight for safe staffing at Umina Park.

22.01.2022 "We have a system, a government that is responsible for looking after children, that is not even providing the basic mental health services that they need."

20.01.2022 This is the Latrobe ambulance station’s new rest and recline space, where paramedics are expected to sleep overnight between jobs. On the recliner chairs. (I...t’s also the primary training room for the entire north and north west ambulance service.) Obviously this brand new station at Latrobe is already too small. Like Burnie, the eastern end of the NW coast needs a new ambulance station as well.

20.01.2022 The government has just announced the budget for 2020-2021. It’s a budget that focuses on building things and not doing things and we’re concerned that the funding announced for health and human services will not meet current and future demand. We need increased health services and the workers to provide them. The government committed to over a thousand additional health workers in the last state election. We would have expected the money to fund those new workers to appear in the forward estimates, but that money hasn’t materialised.

19.01.2022 Monday night at the LGH was a bit busy. #fixramping #whereisyourclosestparamedic

18.01.2022 You can find this poster in the staff room at OneCare Umina Park in Burnie. What started as a joke has become a mantra for HACSU members at Umina Park, with workload and short-staffing now so overwhelming that the laughter that once filled the staff room has been replaced by exhausted workers consoling their colleagues as they just try to keep up. This shouldn't be the story coming out of Tasmania's biggest aged care facility - we need real change at Umina Park!

16.01.2022 We have turned the care of some of our most vulnerable and beloved members of society over to big companies who only cared about profit, who entrenched insecure work, under-staffing and low pay.

15.01.2022 "It's putting paramedics' safety at risk. The public is more at risk because the response times to emergencies are longer. This further shows how important it is that we get more paramedics into the THS. We have seen increases in workers compensation and sick leave, and I have no doubt it is the result of this. The government has had years to look at this issue, train and recruit paramedics from interstate and they haven't, and the problem is getting worse and worse."

15.01.2022 UNION WIN! A while ago, we came up with a safe staffing model with the THS that we all agreed on. It has been a long battle to get it funded, but it has now been announced that the staffing model will be funded for at least 12 months, bringing new clinical staff to district & regional hospitals around Tasmania. No district hospital in Tasmania should ever have unsafe staffing levels and we’ll always fight to make sure we have enough health workers in all our hospitals. ... This is a great win for workers and for regional and rural communities! We’ll have more information about the model for each hospital soon, so watch this space.

15.01.2022 This week, we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. NAIDOC isn’t just celebrated in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life, and the week is a great chance to join in a range of activities and support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. This year’s theme, ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’, recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for o...ver 65,000 years. They were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Nations people engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. They built and engineered structures that well and truly predate famous sites such as the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge and, through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming, transformed the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty. NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact in 1770, or 1606, and it invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country that dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the 65,000 year history of this country, which is Australian history, and we want everyone to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that First Nations sovereignty was never ceded. We’ll be attending events around the state this week and we’d love to see you there to support the local aboriginal community. For more info please contact HACSUassist.

13.01.2022 Big business has got the Government wrapped around their finger, and workers are suffering for it. Support the hidden heroes through out the pandemic - workers. https://utm.io/ucSK0

10.01.2022 Sarah Leighton is an allied health professional. She spoke to the media today about what COVID-19 recovery needs to look like for our health system. Tasmanians are not looking to ‘snap back’ into the old normal. The old normal wasn’t working. As a public healthcare provider, I fully support calls for greater investment in public services. It’s no secret that the Tasmanian health system was struggling even before the pandemic. But now we have the opportunity to make our hea...lth system stronger and to ensure all Tasmanians have access to world class healthcare. Keep an eye out for Sarah on the news tonight!

09.01.2022 For too long the aged care system has relied on the goodwill of a highly casualised and underpaid workforce that often retire into poverty. A properly and transparently funded aged care sector will lead to better pay and conditions for all aged care workers - only this will ensure the high-quality care that all older Australians deserve. We need action on aged care now.

07.01.2022 What's the point of tax cuts if people don't have jobs? Working people need a plan for jobs now.

06.01.2022 SILVER TICKET WINNER Congratulations to Sally Walker from Bupa, who has just found the silver ticket, winning $300! It’s been a big week of visiting aged care workers and celebrating Thank You For Working In Aged Care Day. ... Congratulations to our three prize winners and thank you to every aged care worker who shows up every day and works hard to care for older Australians. We can’t thank you enough. And we’ll keep fighting for a better aged care system, because we know real thanks means real change.

05.01.2022 Around ten percent of Ambulance Tasmania’s workforce are away from work on workers compensation and many are not likely to return. A significant component of that would be mental health related. The dangers and the risk factors associated with this job are proven Tim the facts, that ambulance paramedics are more likely to suffer a mental health or post traumatic stress injury as a direct result of their work. It has become a part of the job, but again it’s one of the issues the government needs to address.

05.01.2022 The gold and bronze tickets were found yesterday on Thank You For Working In Aged Care Day, but the silver ticket (and your chance to win $300) is still out there! We'll be visiting aged care facilities with chocolates for the rest of the week, so make sure you grab one if you see us! Remember, the competition is only open to members so join now to make sure you're eligible to win: http://hacsu.info/aged-care... Terms & conditions apply.

05.01.2022 Aged care workers at Umina Park Burnie are run off their feet, often going home in tears because of the huge workloads and understaffing they’re facing. All they want is to be able to spend quality time with the residents in their care. You can support them in their fight for a better workplace for staff and better care for residents by calling 6220 1200 and letting management know you stand with Umina Park workers.

03.01.2022 Umina Park Burnie needs more staff to make sure residents receive the care they deserve! You can show your support by contacting management on 6220 1200 and letting them know you support the workers’ fight for a better workplace for staff and better care for residents.

01.01.2022 Shout out to all the incredible workers at Beaconsfield District Health Service, and congratulations to Helen for her 50+ years! Beaconsfield DHS is an integral part of the local community and home to some of the hardest working (and longest serving) public health workers in state. Great to see Beacy and its staff getting some of the recognition they deserve!

01.01.2022 Peter Gutwein's budget has not addressed the spike in demand at our public hospitals as unemployment queues grow. Hundreds of millions promised for health and human services in the 2018 election, which should have been due to come onto the forward estimates this year, and would have provided 1000 workers, has completely disappeared.

01.01.2022 The Government must fix our broken aged care system, protect workers who have been at the front line of the fight against the virus and provide better quality care to older Australians. Here's what we're demanding:
