25.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service is encouraging people across the state to take extra care this weekend as they enjoy the warm weather. The Bureau of Meteorology has predi...cted high to very high fire dangers in many parts of Tasmania. TFS Acting Chief Officer Gavin Freeman said today: Hot and dry weather is predicted this weekend and even with some cooler weather recently vegetation across the State is still dry and will become dryer as the weather warms. Bushfires will start easily and could very quickly develop into large fires that are difficult to control. People need to be ready to act, especially as the temperatures and wind increase. There are currently Fire Permit requirements across the State however, as of midnight tonight there will be an embargo on the issue of permits for the whole of the State. People heading off camping and bush walking over the weekend are asked to take their gas cooking equipment and avoid using open fires. Mr Freeman said There have been a number of fires in past years which have started as a result of campfires not being completely extinguished. These fires have resulted in significant damage to the environment and endangered lives. People who light campfires must ensure the fire is never left unattended and they need to turn the coals over and use water to ensure the fire is completely extinguished. If you are holidaying or a visitor to our state and are enjoying our wonderful natural bushland remember that Tasmania is one of the most bushfire prone areas in Australia. You should monitor the local radio stations or visit the TFS website (www.fire.tas.gov.au) to keep up to date with fire information that may threaten you. With the drying conditions in many areas, extra care must be taken when using machinery that emit sparks, such as mowers, slashers, grinders and other cutting tools, as this type of activity may start fires. Tasmanians living in and around the bush need to review their Bushfire Survival Plan and be prepared to implement that plan if required. Details on how to prepare a Bushfire Survival Plan, preparing your property for bushfires, or other fire safety tips can be found on the TFS website www.fire.tas.gov.au

17.01.2022 TOTAL FIRE BAN DECLARED FOR SOUTHERN AND NORTHERN REGIONS 3rd January 2015 Due to hot weather conditions throughout today and forecasted very high to severe fi...re weather for tomorrow, TFS Acting Chief Officer Gavin Freeman has declared a Total Fire Ban for the for southern and northern regions of Tasmania from midnight on the 2nd of January 2015 until midnight on the 3rd of January 2015. Mr Freeman said, Tomorrow will see hot dry weather with forecast gusty winds of more than fifty kilometres per hour in parts of the State. This will make any fire start difficult to control. All Tasmanians are asked to take extra care. Machinery that emit sparks, such as mowers, slashers, grinders and other cutting tool are banned as this type of activity has the potential to start fires. Harvesting will be banned between 1100 am and 6 pm on the day of the ban. While the ban is in place please avoid non-essential water use. Turning off sprinkler systems and using hoses sparingly will help ensure that water is available for firefighting and protecting properties should it be required. People should monitor the local ABC radio station or visit TFS website (www.fire.tas.gov.au) to keep up to date with conditions. Mr Freeman said everyone living in and around the bush needs to review their Bushfire Survival Plan now and be prepared to implement that plan if required. Details on how to prepare a Bushfire Survival Plan, preparing your property for bushfires, or other fire safety tips can be found from the front page of the TFS website www.fire.tas.gov.au Mr Freeman added: There are significant penalties that can be imposed on anyone not adhering to the Total Fire Ban restrictions. All fires should be reported by dialling triple zero (000).

15.01.2022 The Tasmania Fire Service has declared the continuation of the Total Fire Ban for Friday with dangerous fire weather conditions expected. The Total Fire Ban wil...l remain in the south and will extend to the entire north and parts of the north-west until midnight on Friday. "The Total Fire Ban that is in place has been extended until midnight on Friday because of the predicted conditions, said State Fire Controller Greg Butters." The conditions in some areas are expected to see very high and severe fire danger ratings. Dry and windy conditions and temperatures in the high 20s to mid-30s are expected. A front is expected to cross the south east mid-morning and reach the north east by mid-afternoon. With the front we will see stronger and gustier wind speeds and the potential for thunderstorms. The continuation of a Total Fire Ban means that no fires can be lit in the open air. "Fires that occur will be difficult to control and we urge the public to report any fires to TFS immediately by calling triple zero to give us the best chance of containing the fire quickly," said Mr Butters. For more information about Total Fire Bans visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

12.01.2022 The Tasmania Fire Service has just announced that the 2017/2018 permit period will end state wide at 0200 hours, on Tuesday the 10th of April. After this time, members of the public will no longer need a fire permit to undertake hazard reduction burns. Please remember that you should still call 1800 000 699 to register your burn off to reduce the likelyhood of getting a visit from the fire brigade. Also be aware of your council bylaws regarding smoke pollution.

10.01.2022 Remember if you are one of the unlucky people who are without power it is very unsafe to use outdoor cooking and heating such as BBQ, gas cookers and heaters inside. The risk may not be worth the final cost.
