25.01.2022 Thank you Biosecurity Tas. Great to be working with you!

24.01.2022 Our demonstration herd needed to be relocated from Murfett's Creek to Selbourne Road paddocks today. What a beautiful afternoon for Lindsay, Lincoln, Amy, Maddy and Emmie to assist Mrs Johns and Mr Tyson complete the task! Thanks for your super responsible and caring help today. We and the calves appreciate it.

22.01.2022 A beautiful, crisp morning at Hagley Farm today. A gorgeous day for an important visit. I wonder who might be visiting today?.... There might be a hint in the picture. (But grade 3/4 students Olive and Cooper certainly know)

20.01.2022 Thinking that we were having a busy day, was not what Babe was thinking.... Not happy to stop at 6 or 7 or 8 or 9. Welcome piglets! We know you will have many admirers

19.01.2022 Our small group of grade 3-6 students certainly made the most of their unique leadership opportunity this afternoon! So respectful when learning from Mr Staubmann from Habitat Plants; listening, thinking, questioning, planning and practising their skills. Then after lunch, planting 75 native seedlings with Kinder Flowers. All done with such care, kindness, compassion, smiles and skill that every adult there had a grin from ear to ear. Thank you parents for the wonderful job you have done with your children. And thank you for lending them to us this afternoon!

18.01.2022 4J made a special visit to the piglets today during their food and fibre lesson. After brushing up on specific vocab and developing some understanding of gestation and farrowing, we got to see the two new litters in action. In the coming weeks we will look into pig production methods more closely.

15.01.2022 What an incredible real world - hands on learning opportunity for some of our grade 5/6 students last Friday. Warren Johnston and Steven Faulkner from Nutrien Ag showed us how online cattle auctions work and then helped us to assess our two small demonstration herds for sale this Friday. We are so grateful to Warren and Steven for sharing their expertise so openly and for providing a fantastic, real life lesson. We certainly live and work in a very generous agricultural community! Our cattle are online now at: https://auctionsplus.com.au/auctionV2/New/#/presale/24541 Feel free to make a bid - We'll be watching this Friday!

13.01.2022 Our 5/6 classes walked the farm today to inform themselves of the recent fence, gate and drainage work that has happened and to suggest which areas might be worked on next. A chilly 5/6H are seen here posing in front of rubbish pile one! We also needed to discuss the best environments for our heavily pregnant ewes. Next week as a part of food and fibre lessons 5/6 classes will be checking on the welfare of our lambs daily.

12.01.2022 As a part of the Revitalising School Farms initiative we contribute to the National RSF Sway Newsletter. This week our school features in a number of articles.

09.01.2022 Another week, another amazing experience for Hagley students! Our Planting Leaders, who last term trained with Herbert Staubmann from Habitat Plants got the opportunity to assist planting our new demonstration plantation. As well as highlighting tree plantations and different pruning methods for our students and visitors, the plantation will also provide a wind break for our school playground over time. HUGE THANKS to Kathryn Cresswell; NE Plantation Forester and her crew fro...m Forico, as well as Darcy Vickers from Forest Education Foundation. Thanks also to Mr Tyson for his help on the day! https://forico.com.au/ https://www.forest-education.com/ See more

09.01.2022 A welcome arrival today of our mini-spreader to re-sow the small paddocks that house our visitor experience animals. We continue to work on making our farm look the best it can! In difficult financial times we feel lucky to be able to purchase locally. Thanks to Jason Gibson and Roberts Ltd, Deloraine for the great service! Roberts Deloraine

07.01.2022 Thank you Norwood Primary School for this feedback. Hands on activities, led by two expert teachers, linked the Australian Curriculum is what we do. And students just love it!

06.01.2022 Our apologies for forgetting to push this out to Facebook earlier. 'ClassTag' classes already have this newsletter. We hope you enjoy our reminder of what's happening in food and fibre classes, the Visitor Centre and on Hagley Farm.

05.01.2022 Great to show Hawka around the farm today. Although he did spend a lot of time with these girls ..... Thanks to David Cox and Hawthorn Football Club for the opportunity to host today. Please ask your child if they caught up with Hawka today. @hawthornfc

04.01.2022 Another fantastic 'Only at Hagley' food and fibre on the farm experience for 8 super respectful and responsible students this afternoon. Weighing, drafting and marking lambs was something new with Farmer Jack and Matt Bosworth from JBS. A terrific time of new learning for 5/6s Ethan, Edan, Amy and Caleb, 3/4s Olive, Briony, Lucy and Ava. Well done to all and a HUGE thanks to Matt Bosworth for his time and expertise!

04.01.2022 A Hagley Farm School food and fibre update for families. Our P-2 classes have planted their trees (some images soon). Grades 3-6 are planting this week. Our Planting Leaders (who trained with Herbert from Habitat Plants at Liffey) will plant out some of our Demonstration Tree Farm this Thursday after recess.... On Friday, we will work with a small group of interested grade 5/6s to understand online cattle auctions and prepare our cattle for sale next week. Phew!

03.01.2022 Great to be helping host the TAPG EXPO this year. A beautiful day at Hagley!

03.01.2022 Thank you for the positive feedback Cressy District High School. As always you were a delight to host! We are very happy to have been able to offer students such a range of hands-on experiences. Mr Tyson loves taking classes for the day, allowing teachers the opportunity to learn alongside students, or watch and make important observations.

02.01.2022 4J are such a great class to work with in our school's food and fibre program. Despite really getting into their unit on pig production (and they are!), they were very excited to be a part of Miss Johnson's first ever orphaned lamb feed session. We took a few minutes at the end of the lesson to allow 'Miss J' her first Hagley lamb experience. The excitement, joy and happiness for their teacher was evident in every single student. And that's something worth sharing!

02.01.2022 A fantastic day at Hagley for adult learning. Darcy and Kate from Forest Education Foundation (FEF) with Stephen and Molly from Private Forests Tasmania (PFT) presented 'Trees on Farms' professional learning. Our Visitor Centre is a Tasmanian Field Study Centre and welcomes over 5000 student and adult visitors a year and we are always open to new learning that will influence and interest those visitors. Darcy and Kate will also take on some super roles later this term when they assist us with our 'Schools Tree Planting' day with buddy classes.

02.01.2022 National Ag Day (celebrated by us last Thursday) gave our VC, in conjunction with the TFGA and PFT, a chance to host the East Launceston Student Leaders for a true hands on day of farming experiences. An action packed day with our special guest speaker Molly Daskey-Willis from Private Forests Tasmania, then planting trees, dairy demo & team challenge, cattle moving & weighing, fencing, shearing demo and genuine soil testing (ph, moisture, temp) for our farmer & shearer Jack M...onks! A big day out! Our thanks to PFT, TFGA, 7 Nightly News, ABC Radio, The Examiner & Tas Farmer for their follow up stories. A reminder to all schools, that days similar to this can be booked for grades 3-6 in 2021 through the TFG Kids to Farms Project - check their website! 02.01.2022 Terrific to be able to host Minister Guy Barnett (Tas Gov and an ex Hagley student!), Ryan Wilkinson (Biosecurity Tas), Mandy Bowling (TFGA), Prospect High School leaders and Hagley leaders to launch the Biosecurity Education collaborative packages, developed in consultation with the Department of Education. A superb effort and lots of courage displayed by grade 3/4 students Olive and Cooper who took the group through some practical examples of biosecurity too.
