25.01.2022 Have you sat down to think how to save yourself more time with the admin work for your business. If I had time I can hear you saying! Does trying to work out who just put that deposit into your account bug you? Try putting in big letters on your invoice ‘PLEASE QUOTE INVOICE NUMBER WITH PAYMENT’. It’s worth a go.

24.01.2022 If you’re a sole trader or small business here’s a tip for streamlining your books: Just have one bank account with a debit card and one credit card for the business and use them for all your business expenses. Keep your personal expenses entirely separate. You’ll save yourself hours of work and make it easy to keep track of deductible expenses in one place.

16.01.2022 Take a look at this article 5 Simple Tips To Keep Your Small-Business Finances In Order in Forbes Magazine. It’s written by someone who has started 3 small businesses and learnt the hard way. We love this bit ’I know how tempting it can be to save a buck and do it yourself, but it’s almost never more cost-efficient in the end. An accountant will almost always find more deductions and keep you penalty-free.’ Seriously, it’s a good article short, easy to read & helpful. If you want to do as he says and call in a pro you’ll find us at www.haharding.com.au or call 02 9972 2642.

11.01.2022 There’s been talk in the media recently about employers not paying employees the 9.5% super guarantee levy. Don’t be complacent, as an employee you should keep an eye on your super. It’s easy to do these days with online access. Employers have to pay the super guarantee by the 28th of the month after the end of the quarter. (e.g. by April 28 for the January to March period).

07.01.2022 Have you heard of Superstream? If you employ people you need to know about it as it is the new way to make super guarantee payments. You’ll soon find that the superannuation funds won’t accept it any other way. If you use Xero payroll it’s easy to set up so it is automated through a 3rd party ‘clearing house’. Check it out. Or get in touch and we can help.

04.01.2022 Are you in business? Take a look at Xero for your books www.xero.com.au . It’s simple and because it’s in the cloud you can send your quotes or invoices from your phone and you can reconcile your accounts while sitting on the lounge watching TV. That’s during the ad breaks of course!

03.01.2022 Is your home also your place of business? Have you set aside an area exclusively for running your business? If so you may be able to claim income tax deductions for a portion of the costs of owning, maintaining and using your home for this purpose. If you just use facilities in your home to run your business, then you may be able to claim a portion of running costs such as business phone & energy costs.

03.01.2022 Are you lucky enough to own a property with a market value of $2 million or more. If you are and are thinking of selling you need to be aware of the new rules. From 1 July 2016 a 10% non-final withholding tax may be applied to your property’s sale contract. The ruling was designed to apply to non-residents but even if you are an Australian resident, to avoid the 10% tax you will need to obtain a clearance certificate from the ATO prior to settlement.
