25.01.2022 Stay tuned for an interview at the Blackall Wool Scour this evening at 6pm. (dependant on connectivity) On annual leave in Queensland while Sandy and Amanda hold the fort for Hahndorf Walking Tours back home.
25.01.2022 Great to see some South Australians honored in other states. Have you seen this bust on North Terrace in Adelaide there is a bust of Howard Florey? A photo of Florey's bust and details are in the workers museum in Barcaldine, QLD.... Penicillin was first discovered by Fleming in 1928 but if was Florey and his team who discovered in 1939 that in mice (and then in humans) it would fight bacteria. Penicillin was the first natural antibiotic found in the world. In Hahndorf, SA you'll find the bust of Captain Dirk Hahn. Our guides will provide you with all the details of what he discovered and why a Danish sea Captain is honored on the other side of the world.
25.01.2022 Have a bit of fun by putting on the German garb - dirndl and leaderhosen. You don't have to get changed or go to Europe you can dress up in the main street of Hahndorf! Thanks Justin for providing this 'mural' for visitors to enjoy. Yesterday I posted about new discoveries at The Hahndorf Academy. Keep a look at at The German Village Shop as I reckon there are going to be some new discoveries coming up with this business soon too!... Life keeps changing and so does the village. Always something new to explore. See more
25.01.2022 Hahndorf Walking Tour guide Amanda is here with members of Adelaide Camera Club. These guys were keen to photograph historic buildings and they certainly got what they wanted. Why not get a group of friends together and make a day of it in Hahndorf? Include a walking tour to make it fun and informative.... Photo credit Martin Lamshed.
25.01.2022 My favourite building in Hahndorf is the beautiful Hahndorf Academy building. It has a very long history and is a focal point in the village. This photo was taken before 1872. It now houses the Visitor Information Centre, Art Gallery, Germanic museum along with a fantastic retail shop filled with South Australian art and craft. Guests meet us at this location for our daily Hufendorf Tour at 2pm. Bookings can be made by visiting our website https://bit.ly/2YS1xMW... #hahndorf See more

23.01.2022 Good morning world. During these Covid times Hahndorf main street has certainly been deserted on occasions but this morning it's really eerie. Tomorrow it will all change and we are open again!
23.01.2022 Sir Hans Heysen touring exhibition is currently at Wallis theatre, Mount Barker. It certainly was enjoyed by all Hahndorf Academy so head to Wallis and you can enjoy it too.
22.01.2022 Hahndorf. The home of artisans.
21.01.2022 Undara experience is only three hours from Cairns, Queensland. It is a tourist attraction in Mount Surprise. The only access to Undara Volcanic National Park is by guided tour only. Sharon is again talking to a fellow tour guide about the lava tubes of the area. The resort is amongst the Gulf Savannah country in Tropical North Queensland and well worth a visit. Highly recommended.
21.01.2022 Kaeslers Bros was still standing when I first moved into the village in 2000. It was certainly sad to see it go but this 1908 photo remains of the business. A place that was once bustling and full of energy. This area is now full of other shops Hahndorf IGA being one. It is inevitable that change takes place and so we move on. Only one more photos in this series to share with you. Go back through the previous Tuesdays posts and see if you can recall what they were and what h...as replaced or changed at that location. #hahndorf See more
20.01.2022 Father's Day is almost upon us. My kids are blessed to have a great father. Not all fathers get it right but all children need male role models in their life. Celelebrate that!... Treat that special man in your life to a meal or Hahndorf Walking Tour gift card. Unique thoughtful idea.
20.01.2022 Thought you may all like to see another historic Lutheran church. This is the first Lutheran church and bell tower in Charters Towers, Queensland built in 1885/6 and used as a Lutheran Church till 1871. Pastor EO Maiser of German Station in Brisbane (later known as Nundah) was the first pastor in Charters Towers and opened the church on 13 June 1886 as St Johannes. The bell tower, hung with two bells brought from Germany, was completed in 1887. Germans Lutherans had come to search for gold with thousands of others. Bit different to the Lutheran churches I take you to in Hahndorf, South Australia on the walking tours.
19.01.2022 As we celebrate Fathers Day and the male role models in our lives, we were wondering.....
19.01.2022 NAIDOC week postings. Number 3 of 5 images of my collection of aboriginal art work. Storytelling and art are so critical in all cultures. This painting is called 'Women at Waterhole' by Eric Staines. Purchased from @ImanpaArts at the Mt Ebenezer Roadhouse, NT. The Roadhouse is now closed.... Have you seen the waterholes around Hahndorf? @thearthousehahndorf See more
19.01.2022 Owner/operator Sharon Pippos at Blackall Wool Scour, Queensland. An amazing achievement by the community to restore and share this unique place in outback Queensland. I was quite moved by this place as it showed Aussie committment and ingenuity as well as an appreciation of history. This is here for all Australians and visitors to enjoy. If you are able to travel to Queensland take the time to visit Blackall.... Of course if you are coming to South Australia Hahndorf Walking Tours is certainly worth enjoying. #hahndorfwalkingtours See more
17.01.2022 Port Douglas is the farthest north travelled on this trip. Even though it was disappointing not to be able to experience the overseas locations that had been planned this year we have had a great holiday. Australia is always my country of choice and Hahndorf is my happy place. Heading home. Ps 2020 is not a right off it's been a reset. Reset your thinking and take every opportunity that comes your way visit Hahndorf, take a walking tour and explore Australia! #portdouglas

16.01.2022 Beautiful spring day exploring areas around Hahndorf. Our unique part of the Adelaide Hills has fachwerk treasures hidden in so many crevices. Follow us on Facebook and pm me your email if you want to be included on our mailing list. #fachwerkbuildings
15.01.2022 So this, the last of our Tuesdays photos of the past has been chosen because of its simplicity. Mr H Theile and Mr's G and W Jaensch going about their daily work in 1901. Can we imagine the clip clop of the horses hooves, the smell of the wool and the conversation as these working men made their way past Hahndorf Old Mill to the destination of where the wool was being delivered. The dog calmly relaxing by the side of the road and the sound of the wheels crunching as it passe...s Detmold house. Our Hahndorf streets are rarely this quiet and peaceful unless you are out walking in the early morning or late hours. (or the Covid experience earlier this year) So this series is dedicated to the ordinary folk of the village both past and present who make up the fragment of this place. Hard working, honest and on the whole a happy community who welcome you to our village to enjoy, respect and return. Walk the streets where these pioneers walked when you join a Hahndorf Walking Tours to appreciate all it has to offer. I hope you have enjoyed the series and today celebrate the start of Spring. Bring it on! @southaustraliaartgallery

10.01.2022 The location of Haebich's blacksmith shop and house is another special place to Hahndorf Walking Tours. What a great photos depicting the working man in Hahndorf. A very well behaved horse. The blacksmiths building has changed and now Storison, Hahndorf and Birkenstock In The Hills have taken over what was the blacksmith's workshop and Hahndorf Massage the Haebich's house. A National Trust treasure. You'll find out many of this locations stories on our Hufendorf Walking Tour..., our signature tour. $35.00 daily. https://bit.ly/2YS1xMW #hahndorf See more
10.01.2022 Hahndorf, South Australia is recognised as one of the top three dog friendly locations in Australia. Of all the wonderful ways we welcome fur friends to the village I think this one may just beat them all. Enjoying a meal at hidden@yorkeys in Far North Queensland and the owners (with an outdoor area full of guests and pooches) provides treats of bacon! You can imagine how keen the canines are to encourage their owners to drop by. Tracey from @blue_belle_boutique_hahndorf still takes the cake though. No. 1 treat provider in our village. #hahndorfwalkingtours
10.01.2022 Hahndorf from Home. If you can't personally come to our beautiful village visit via Zoom. Check it out. https://www.hahndorfwalkingtours.com.au//hahndorf-from-ho/
06.01.2022 NAIDOC week post number 4. A carved Boab nut purchased from NW at a community just out of Broome. Barramundi, turtle, water and local vegetation carved onto the surface. One of my special treasures. So many mediums and textures ate used to express oneself in Art.... Tomorrow night a very unusual and practical 'instrument'. Have a guess what it could be? Carved, hollow, creates a noise. Let's see if you guess correctly. The Aboriginal Art House Hahndorf South Australia See more

04.01.2022 Hahndorf Walking Tours recommends this Adelaide Hills business. Josh + Georgia Lamborn are the creators of @HiveArtisancollective. This husband + wife team complement each other's strengths - Josh is a qualified manufacturing jeweller and teaches jewellery hobbiest classes Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. Their jewellery is designed to be elegant + unique, with a focus on durability and sustainability. The ornamental copper roses they offer are stunning and can be included in a natural flower arrangement or a very special gift.
03.01.2022 Lets have some National pride and celebrate our country. It's National Wattle Day tomorrow! Instead of doing what is best for SA, what is best for Vic, what is best for QLD, what is best for WA, what is best for Tas, what is best for NSW, what is best for ACT what is best for NT let's do what is best for Australia. Show your patriotism and wear a sprig of wattle and have a bit of fun tomorrow on Sept 1st.
03.01.2022 Come to Hahndorf and enjoy our streetscape fun. Always something to see in Hahndorf!

03.01.2022 With so many German wagons around Hahndorf, South Australia this HUGE wool carting wagon certainly caught my attention in Northern Qld #herbertonhistoricvillage The village is a credit to all involved. This wagon is too. A massive 8.5m long, 2.5m wide and the wheels are 1.8m diameter. My FB timeline photo currently shows one of our Hahndorf beauties.
03.01.2022 What a transformation has taken place in this place. This photo was taken in 1852 of the Union Hotel at no 35. It is now named the The Hahndorf Inn and is where we commence our Strassendorf Tour $35 (and Strudel and Stroll Walking Tour $65) Inside is some memorabilia you don't want to miss. ... 03.01.2022 The Hahndorf Academy is a beautiful example of South Australia architecture. A combination of free form sandstone and pink cut sandstone blocks one assume came from the Macclesfield quarry. You'd think we'd know all there was to know about this building but over the past 18months even more secrets have been revealed. Our understanding of the building and it's uses and changes over the years have changed. These lovely visitors visited the Academy with me yesterday as I shared the changing faces of our iconic Hahndorf Academy.
03.01.2022 After all Sylvia OKeefe's hard work the Australian Property Institute SA Rural Conference finally made it to Hahndorf after all the Covid changes throughout the year. Sandy one of our guides from Hahndorf Walking Tours is sharing the history of our gorgeous township. The Haus and other locations in the main street. We welcome conferences to the village. Book a walking tour and a venue. Photo credit to Sylvia. #api #property
03.01.2022 One thing I love is a cosy fire. When you enter the Hahndorf Inn there are no less than THREE fires burning. #hahndorfinn #thePaintbox has a lovely fire #germancafe and many more locations in Hahndorf. No matter what the weather you'll always feel like you are in your happy place. Cosy and comfortable. Hahndorf Walking Tours can take you to those special places and help you feel at home. Tomorrow I'll share one of my other loves. What do you enjoy?
02.01.2022 Surprise! When life gives you challenges don't think just of the closed door, think of the surprises on the other side. I love doors. They are the special as they are the means to accessing another 'dimension'. Your safe haven, a friends home, a lace of worship, theatre, museum, doctors surgery, restaurant for a great meal etc. This door slightly hidden in a hedge in the main street leads to one of our local residents and it takes me to the childhood story I loved 'The Secre...t Garden'. Any door memories you want to share? At this door is a Hahndorf from Home parcel. A Zoom experience which is accompanied by a choice of options from Hahndorf. If you can't travel to Hahndorf you can still have an experience. Check it out on HWT website. Just open the door. See more
01.01.2022 In the series of historic photos of Hahndorf this week we look at the Hahndorf Post Office. This photo was taken in 1933. It certainly looks a lot different now. The Fairy Garden Hahndorf and The Picky Parrot Barber are right alongside. It seems to me that the post office is the place to find out lots of local information. John and his team can provide you will all the local news as well as your postal needs and a gift range as well. You might even meet a stray fairy or parr...ot? Wonder where we will head next week? #hahndorf
