25.01.2022 Our Middle School and VCAL Music classes were treated to some special music and movement workshops with Eric Avery and Ronnie Smith! The students learned about movement and how to choreograph dances to music while Ronnie played the guitar and Eric accompanied with violin. They also learned how music and dance are related to individual cultures, while Eric demonstrated how he searches for different sounds on the violin, using a classical instrument in a contemporary way. Within 25 minutes students were choreographing their own dance to live music!
25.01.2022 Our Middle School students have worked incredibly hard this year, so it was a great pleasure to present this year's Level Awards. The students were recognised for their consistent effort and application, earning Bronze, Silver and Gold Level Awards! They were rewarded with a celebratory lunch and also received Level Certificates. Congratulations to all!
23.01.2022 A music lesson to remember! Our Year 10-12 VCAL students recently had the opportunity to visit Skinnyfish Music, a Darwin-based record label. The students learnt what a record label does, how it operates and then rehearsed as a band in the recording studio. They played through their full song list which includes music from Yothu Yindi, Maroon 5, Sean Kingston, Michael Jackson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Chuck Berry and more! Our VCAL band also performed in a lunchtime concert as part of the School’s NAIDOC Week celebrations, showcasing their excellent skills!
23.01.2022 Our Middle School students had a great experience at the Hockey Gala Day! They learnt new skills, socialised and had a lot of fun competing. Thank you to everyone who participated and all the teachers who coached our teams and volunteered. We are looking forward to many more sports galas!
23.01.2022 Congratulations to student Iman Evans, whose uniform design has been chosen for Suncorp Super Netball’s 2020 Indigenous Round. The NSW Swifts teamed up with the Stars Foundation and offered students the opportunity to submit artwork for the team’s Indigenous dress. Iman, a passionate artist and netball player, incorporated the iconic red and blue of the NSW Swifts into the dress and also represented the qualities we see in the athletes teamwork, leadership and respect. Tune in on Channel 9 at 2.30 pm tomorrow for the telecast to see the incredible design on the court! Well done, Iman!
22.01.2022 Our Senior School students have been learning about different cultures, and growing their understanding through food is a fantastic way to connect! They recently went on an excursion to a local Chinese restaurant where they tasted traditional dishes such as stir-fried Mapo tofu served in a clay pot, and Sichuan Fish served in chilli soup. Their favourite dishes were the roast duck and barbeque pork. Indeed a delicious adventure!
21.01.2022 The theme of NAIDOC Week this year is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’, recognising the First Nations people who have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Haileybury Rendall School would like to thank Tony and Trent Lee, of Larrakia Nation, who oversaw our recent Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony. Students were reminded of the significance of the ceremony and the ancient origins of these practices. The respect shown was a wonderful way to set the tone for the week’s activities celebrating Aboriginal culture. Thanks to all the staff who organised the events and for our students and community.
21.01.2022 Last night, the Haileybury Rendall School community celebrated student achievements at the 2020 Speech Night. 16.01.2022 Ahoy there, matey! Did you hear the news? The crew at ‘HRrrrrrS’ raised $5,000 for Childhood Cancer Support! The ELC and Junior School took part in 'Talk Like a Pirate Day’, a nationally recognised fundraiser for children living with cancer. Our students and staff dressed up to become honorary pirates, searched for treasure and made some amazing donations. Thanks to everyone for their generous contributions and a great day! As Term 3 comes to an end, we wish our Haileybury Rendall School community a safe and restful break. We’re looking forward to a fabulous Term 4!
16.01.2022 Our VCE Geography class recently visited Litchfield National Park to investigate the tourism management strategies in place at this popular destination. The students arrived at Wangi Falls, where they interviewed tourists about their experiences and heard stories from people that had come from all over the country to explore the Darwin region. It was an excellent opportunity for our students to collect fieldwork data that will assist in writing their reports when returning to the classroom.
16.01.2022 This year, our ELC has won the 2020 Great Christmas Tree Challenge! The students had a great time working collaboratively with their families to create this sustainable masterpiece. It was a fiddly task to get the paper straws onto the branches (especially for little fingers) but after two weeks, they were very satisfied with their creative efforts - and even more pleased with the result!

15.01.2022 Our Year 7 students recently embarked on an exciting expedition to Litchfield Park as part of their Outdoor Education Program. For many students this was their first taste of expedition travel, carrying all of their equipment in packs and setting up campsites! They cooked tasty dinners on camp stoves, discovered secret off-track waterholes, improved their navigational skills, and went slack-lining and raft building in Florence Creek! Well done to the students for their effort, behaviour and enthusiasm on this trip.

15.01.2022 Sustainability can support our environment and our tummies! To tie in with their sustainability projects, our Reception students are learning more about where their daily food comes from. They discovered that cows produce milk and cream, and when you separate them, you can make a variety of products that we eat every day! The Receptions were given some cream in a mason jar, and after some vigorous shaking, they even produced their very own butter and buttermilk!
14.01.2022 Well done to our Year 9 students who completed their Outdoor Education expedition to Litchfield! Using a map and compass, the students made their way through the open woodland of the Litchfield Tabletop. They certainly enjoyed the views on the way as well as the large, shady trees at their destination. It was fantastic to see everyone embrace the challenging walks. A big thank you to all involved in making their trip a great success!
14.01.2022 Force is a big component of Physics and to learn more about the topic our Year 11 students have been conducting some exciting experiments. This investigation helped them to see the relationship between applied force and the elongation of a spring. It also helped them understand how mass is measured in real life and how Hooke’s Law can be applied, especially in areas of engineering.
14.01.2022 The Year 6 students have been using video, graphic design and creative language to produce their own television advertisements! The aim of the ads is to convince their target audience to buy a particular product, working together to find the best hook!
13.01.2022 Our basketballers put their skills to the test when they represented Haileybury Rendall School at the Darwin Interschool 3v3 Basketball Gala Day! Students from Years 7, 8 and 9 played five games at the Palmerston Recreational Centre, with all teams finishing with a few wins, a few losses, and many close matches that resulted in lots of exciting goals and great sportsmanship. Congratulations to our two girls teams who competed against each other in the semi-finals, with the winning team taking the flag! Thank you to our volunteer Ms Lucy Thompson, and teacher Mr Lindon Hunt who came along to coach and provided support on the sidelines. Go Haileybury Rendall School!
11.01.2022 Our Year 2 students loved their excursion adventure to the Territory Wildlife Park! Highlights included seeing endangered animals in the Nocturnal House and meeting Graham the Crocodile in the aquarium! Thank you to all the parent helpers who assisted on the day.
11.01.2022 In support of R U OK Day today, our Senior School student leaders devoted time to exploring mental health issues and support. Following the central message, ‘There’s more to say after R U OK?’, the students hosted a house Kahoot competition and group activities to encourage everyone to follow up the initial question and encourage action if someone admits that they are not OK. #RUOKDay is about empowering those suffering from mental health issues as well as their friends and family to actively seek support. Our leaders have demonstrated a genuine commitment to breaking down stigma and building awareness. We thank them for their outstanding contribution and compassion.
09.01.2022 Welcome back to our Early Learning Centre students for 2021! 07.01.2022 Tis the season! The ELC students are taking part in the Greatest Christmas Tree Challenge, creating a sustainable tree from recyclable straws and other natural products. Their wonderful tree will be on display at the Darwin Galleria, where families and friends can cast their votes. The winner will be announced on Monday, 14 December! Good luck!
07.01.2022 Creating music is a superpower! Our Transition and Year 1 students have been learning new rhythms and creating sound effects for common superhero movements like ‘Bam’ and ‘Kapow’! The class then worked together to compose rhythms using superhero words such as ‘courageous’, ‘fearless’, and ‘brave’. It was wonderful to see them perform in small groups for the class with percussion instruments and their superhero props!
03.01.2022 Up, up and away! Another favourite activity from National Science Week was the paper plane challenge! Our students constructed and tested a diverse range of designs to see which type of paper plane could travel the greatest distance. As you can see, there were lots of determined engineers competing for the win!
02.01.2022 It’s all about camping in the ELC! Our Preschool students have been discussing what they might take with them when they go camping, and a favourite suggestion was a good book. Inside the classroom, students have also been writing short sentences using their phonological awareness to sound out some new tricky words. How terrific to see lots of growth happening this term!
02.01.2022 Our Middle and Senior School students had a great time competing in LanguageFest 2020, organised by LTANT (Language Teachers’ Association of the Northern Territory). Congratulations to all of our winners on their outstanding efforts and achievements!
