Its important for stylists and clients to know about filters and the effects they have on hair. Filters are the latest trend influencers and some hair stylists are using to edit their photos. Filters are beautiful but not REAL. Filtered photos of hair are usually not realistic. You might be in love with the filter more than you are the ...real hair. Look how I used a filter adjusted the blonde in this photo. Its a gorgeous picture and one that Im sure would bring in a ton of engagement but I would be lying about the work and my ability if I posted it. Clients: be aware of this when choosing your inspiration photos to bring to a stylist. I find myself saying, well, that girls hair doesnt even look like that in reality far too often. Try to pick unfiltered photos for your inspiration shots. You can usually click on the models tagged photos and find some unfiltered shots. Stylists- stop comparing yourself and your work to all of these filtered photos. This means even if you use black or a dark color, they’re using the same chemicals made to lighten the hair, which you DONT need, especially when you’re going dark. What happens after that color is in your hair? Because the chemicals are stronger, they’re jammed way harder in to your hair and end up staining your hair at it’s core. What is a texturizing haircut and how do you recognise one? Its essentially a cut where the hairdresser slides a razor or a pair of thinning scissors on random locations of the hair in order to create a volouminous look at the root with stringy ends, the desired outcome is less bulkiness and a sense of texture, but as a concequence, it brings problems with curls. Waves and curls already have texture of there own, they dont need texturizing! We also dont want a "triangle head," rather a more flattering shape is usually a "u" or a "v" shape at the ends. "triangle head" happens when a hairdresser cuts the entire hair in a single straight line, also a big no-no in the curly world. Always remember when your getting a haircut that your curls will spring up a little shorter.
